  • What tuning are you using?

  • @killamonkey It's in standard tuning -probably capo 2.

  • Really nice. It's a truly great song and you do it much justice. Brings a tear every time

I hear Andy Irving sing it, and I'm reaching for my handkerchief right now.

  • @11gokey Thanks very much :o)

  • great job ....beautiful song!

  • @batterseaspark Cheers :o)

  • this is actually brilliant i came back to it and all well done!

  • Thanks very much. As an arrangement it pretty much follows the melody with a few embellishments. I think this is one of favourite Planxty songs along with P Stands For Paddy. Powerful stuff!

  • you should do p stands for paddy too

  • well done

  • Thanks very much :)

  • Very nice.. planxty is such a treassure... Do you play this in standard tuning? Loved it!

  • Thanks. Yes, it's in standard tuning. It's a great song and Andy Irvine's arrangement and voice make it something really special. I wanted to try to capture some of that in my version

  • could you perhaps put up the chord progression I really want to learn this song! thanks

  • Check out my new video - 1st June 2009. I think it gives a clearer view of what I'm doing.

  • where do i get the book Billy

  • It was published by Mews Music of London in about '76. You'd be extremely lucky to pick up a copy of it now.

  • "It's a bit daunting attempting anything by Andy Irvine"

You said it ! and then to sing as well - now thats talent !

    Beautiful job well done !

  • Cheers :)

  • Thanks very much, Mick

It's a bit daunting attempting anything by Andy Irvine

    regards

    John

  • very much enjoy your performance. do you know where i may find the guitar tab for this tune?

  • There was a song book that came out a while back with melody and chords - I think I worked out this arrangement from there.

  • I like very much this traditional tune and I find your rendition really beautiful: bravo!...

    Cheers,

    luca

  • Thanks very much.

  • Superb!Brilliant! Normal tuning?

  • Thanks. It's a very sparse arrangement, but I like it that way. I find it difficult to sing, trying to reach the higher notes ;) Yes, normal tuning.
