We're doing this show this coming fall. So pumped...I wish I could get a CD of this, but this'll do. It looks like so much fun, and the actors did a brilliant job!
Wow...I just love Betty Buckley...I remember seeing this show as a child...I have followed Betty's career ever since seeing her as "Abby" in Eight is Enough re-runs when I was 8 or 9. I actually have this scene still on a VHS tape - YIKES!!
I'm currently playing in the pit for a short run of this show, and the writing is brilliant! I don't understand how it could be considered a "minor" show in the least.....probably one of the most gorgeous pieces is "Moonfall" and it is just such a fun show in general. I think it depends on how much the actors get into character as well in order to get the audience involved, sometimes that helps but sometimes you get a lot of self conscious people too in the audience. Still a fabulous show!
I know this has always been considered a minor show, but ... I always found it thrilling. And this performance by this cast - Rebecca Luker, Ms. Buckley, Cleo Lane, Howard, and the amazing George Rose ... awesome.
I can't believe I saw this 23 years ago! Seeing Cleo Laine b4 I knew she was a legend...Betty Buckley post 'Cats' but I knew her more, given my age, from '8 is Enough' as wife of D. Van Patten, Howard McGillin, I had seen a year or so b4 in 'Follies' at LC, which was so great!!! Cleo still going strong and now see her as a legend ('World was Young')...Buckley has been in some flops but has some pipes! McGillin??? Were better Dicken's stories to convert, and still might be, with luck! B'way!!!!
Don't mean to one-up you, but I just have too! ; ) Both Betty Buckley and the writer Rupert Homles came to see our college performance. I played Drood. When Betty came up on stage to congratulate us after the show, I fell to the floor...literally. I couldn't believe she watched me play her role! ; )
Wow, this brings back memories! I was Master Purcell (the actual conductor) for two different sets of performances of this musical. It remains one of my absolute favorite shows of all time... hilarious, and also marvelously complex musically! Such a shame that the CD is out of print!
I had the good fortune to see this show on Broadway and in London (where it bombed.)It's such a pleasure to see clips again on YouTube. Thanks for putting it up.
One of the most brilliant musicals of all time. And the lyrics! THERE YOU ARE!!! How distingué and debonair you are! Just slightly west of Leicester Square you are! Yes, there you are! That grateful we all should be, Full well aware we are. So, lightning quick, lets all kick up a fuss! We can but pray your trust is blind in us. So drink your fill and just unwind in us. A warmly wicked state of mind in us, You'll find in us... {sigh} They don't write them like that anymore...
@lovelylady17329 this show should never be revived, no one could match the talent and amazingess of this cast

Man! Choreography like this needs to make a comeback! I just LOVE watching this performance!

Man, they should totally make some more "Broadway's Lost Treasures" DVDs for this and many other Tony Awards performances.
...Hell, EVERY Tony performance should be on DVD/Blu-Ray for all the world to see! :O

It's lovely to be reminded of the late great George Rose. A perfect English gentlemen. RIP.

Saw it 14 times on Broadway. To this day probably the most overall fun I've had in the theater. Amazing.

I wish I could've seen this show on Broadway. I wasn't even born then. :(

This show is just too much fun. When I first heard the CD, I couldn't believe how good Howard sounded. He sounds better here than he did in Phantom.

LOVE this show. saw it twice on Broadway. Donna Murphy had replaced Betty Buckley, but everyone else of the original cast was still in it.
I have been on a quest for the CD of the cast album, but no luck here. I have the vinyl, but no turntable to play it on!

Actually, that's Patti Cohenour. Rebecca Luker's Broadway debut wasn't for a few more years, in Phantom.

I saw Cleo and her husband in a performance afew years ago. And as well as a great performer, her humanity showed through across the foot lights.

This is a great show-but so damn hard trying to get an audience involved with the solving of the mystery .

I really wish I had been brought to the theatre just 3 years before I did - then I would have seen this wonderful masterpiece of a show!

My theatre director at my college actually met Howard McGillin (who played John Jasper). I was so jealous when I heard about that.
