what is intense is thinking during ww2 hilter was standing and burning art work in the courtyard ...the people of paris could only save so many works by loading them on trains and getting them out of the city having only hours to do it...the raft of medusa took out power lines on the way to the trains and there are photos of men standing on the back of trucks trying to hold up the wires to let the painting clear...there is so much to experience there some research and you video could be amazing
i went there a few years back....there is a free day each week ..and other days you can tell the ticket people your group/ class is already in the museum and you were seperated from them...i did it 6 times...if it dosnt work try a different wing....sadly you missed so much...and the painting you past and said it might be important.. virgin of the rocks..by da vinci...important YES it is the only know work completed by him, not with his assistants..not to add its size..and subject matter..
Thank you Lindsay! I'm leaving for Paris tomorrow and I'm sure this will be helpful! By the way on the Louvre site, they have self-tour itineraries that you can print :)
I don't mind art, but I prefer architecture. I would go to the Louvre to see the Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian-era paintings they have there. Thanks to that project Google is doing where they essentially "street view" museums, I can see that. Thanks to you, I get to see the grounds of the museum and some other interesting sights. Thanks!
Ive always prefered architecture than paintings, althoufh i do enjoy watching paintings. The styles between paintings and architecture walk hand by hand. For example builds the renaissance on a humanistic view, which can be seen in both the paintings and architecture. The reason i enjoy architecture is because, that a building is someting you see when you walk down the street, and a building symbolices its home country, people, history or culture.
Ummm, I prefer paintings and sculptures, and I was at the Louvre (I spent like 4 hours there on one day) and there is a lot that you missed...What I mean is i wouldn't call hacking the Louvre a video where you basically see 2 or 3 things and go out.
i think architecture and paintings are alot alike... they are very distinctive by the era or period they were created.. and the elements used to create them.. even if u dont know what a painting is about or who created it.. it's interesting to see what they would paint about... or how they would compose it... both are amazing, but i think u need more patience to really enough paintings lol
I'm all about architecture. It just seems more spectacular to me. I'm not religious in the slightest but I'm in love with the architecture of cathedrals and churches.
Miss Linz if you like Architecture you should look up Antoni Gaudi and visit Spain one of these days and check out La Sagrada Familia beautiful church which is in Barcelona. There is a lot of his buildings in Barcelona, Spain. ^_^
Seeing the Mona Lisa was one of the most deflating moments of my life. Perhaps it had something to do with the glass that was in front of it at the time, but it was a lot smaller than I thought.
hmmm hard but probs Architecture! if you do love Architecture Barcelona Spain is my favourite city in the world as you get the really modern next to the really old! plus unlike many cities in the world it has a beach!! and there's the olymic stadium, gaudi's forest and la segrade famillia! (sorry if its spelt wrong!)
My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Paris, and I must say the Louvre quickly became not only my favorite place in Paris, but maybe in the world. You can easily spend several days and not see the whole thing. To turn a quiet corner and find yourself face to face with the Venus de Milo is a truly sublime experience. Now I need to find a way to get back there someday...
I like architecture way more than paintings. When I go to art museums, half the time I think I can do the exact same thing, but all the amazing architecture around the world took a lot of really hard work and man power to create.
I vaguely remember going there when I was 8 and I don't know if the Louvre was/is like this, but when my parents dragged me round all these art museums, all I seemed to see were loads of naked women or blobs/splatters of paint... I'm not really an art person, but I do appreciate their significance - it just bored the hell outta me when all I wanted to do was go to Disneyland!
Im not an art person, but I love museums. Even if you dont know what the piece is, or even if its not important, I love just to look t the different art.
so i told my mom to watch this video because the rest of my family is going to France and definitely going to Paris to see parts of the Louvre. she has been watching all your videos today and she keeps telling me "OOOO COME LOOK @ THIS ITS AMAZING!!!!!!" even though i've watched all your vids XD if she knew ho to use the internet/youtube properly you'd have another subscriber
I'm a painter so you'd think the answer would be paintings but the buildings in Paris are so iconic I'd prefer walking around. But you're right, you must go to the Louvre if you're in Paris. My dad says he ran through the Louvre just to see the Mona Lisa and then said "That's it??" It is strange that so many people crowd around famous works and might miss some others. The ones with glass might also be in worse condition than others and may need more protection but the crowd thing is true. I'm g
I am an artist so I probably would have enjoyed it more inside than out but heck yeah that is crowded. =( I enjoy architecture I suppose but I would have enjoyed the art more.
I'm heading to Spain this summer and we'll be heading into Morocco for a day or two. You were in Spain with Charles and Alli right? Is there stuff I should be aware of? I heard pickpocketing runs rampant there...
I was just thinking about how much I prefer architecture to paintings as well. I actually do enjoy art quite a bit... I have tons of art in my home and I've been to several amazing museums... but there's something about the Eiffel Tower or the Pyramids of Giza... something about the Empire State Building or the Neuschwanstein Castle... that stops me in my tracks.
I found the Louvre to be very hot and crowded. And of course I got lost. Did you? Kudos if you didn't! Before i went in, i was hoping to spend alot of time in the museum, but, as i said, it was really hot and crowded! Btw, the first painting with the big crowd around it is called "The Virgin of the Rocks" or "Madonna of the Rocks" there's also another at the National Gallery in London. That's where i saw it.
I'd love to go one day. I've taken about five yrs of French but I have never really used it in a real long time. As far as art or architecture...I don't know much about either one but I know it will be amazing either way.
I find I can look at architecture longer and just admire it for a while. With paintings, I look at it like I would a photo album. 5 seconds MAX per picture.
I just went to France last year with my family and we went to the Louvre. As a 16 year old guy, i didn't really find the painting or history that appealing, but I thought the architecture was amazing! But my favourite part, besides the architecture was the Apple store...is that wrong? LOL It was last June-July time and I hadn't seen the iPhone 4 yet, and suprisingly it wasn't that crowded, so i got to spend a fair bit of time playing around. I love Paris =]
gaaah no flash on the Mona Lisa! I see you saw Nike of Samothrace! I LOVE THAT THING gah! Perhaps if you want to enjoy these things better you can read a guide? Art is really interesting if you know a bit of the background :)
I like the architecture and the nature/landscape more than paintings. It's more exciting and more interesting to see the big picture rather than the little picture, if you know what I mean. It shows history as well as art in some cases. I think architecture shows a lot more on what the history and culture has to say rather than art.
I like photography best, though also love paintings and architecture. I dislike most "modern art" though like the really pretentious stuff they pass off as deep and meaningful. And the very large majority of performance art (except acting) is a load of shite. This is useful though since I'll be at the louvre in a month so good to know about the ticket machines! Thanks
I'm partial to architecture. You can do beautiful things with architecture and no one is not allowed to touch it or take pictures. Also it has a use, and there are so many different things one might do to make a building beautiful...
If you love architecture you would have loved it in the basement of the Louvre. I don't know if you went down there, but there's old castle ruins, and some tombs and things too, but that was definitely what stood out to me most when I was there!
Linz did you ever read the Da Vinci Code? I know there is a whole stigma to reading Dan Brown novels with all the hype and artistic license going a bit overboard but I remember going to the Louvre just after reading it and it was cool because of all the references in the book, especially being under the glass pyramid (I won't say why in case you get around to reading it if anyone hasn't) Enjoyed the vid tho!
@Blackstar12345678 I love Dan Brown books, but Da Vinici Code is my favorite! I was just waiting for her to show the pyramid so I could see what it looked like in real life LOL
@LinzLoves The first painting with the woman and child is by Jacopo de'Barbari, is an italian painter and the painting is called Virgin at the fountain. Don't recocnise the other one though :/ looks very much like renesance Italian style, so guessing 1400 Italian painting. Hope you are having a wonderfull time in Paris, one of my favorite cities :)
@LinzLoves The first one, on the left, is Jacopo de' Barberi's Virgin at the Fountain and the second is Vincenzo di Biagio Catena's Portrait of Giangiorgio Trissino. Yay Art History!
Is it just the angle of the camera or is it really that small. I kind of expected it to be bigger. (Honest this is not a "that's what she" said joke, I really thought it was a large painting)
I like art when I understand the history behind the art 1st. If I don't understand the history behind the art work/ artist then it's just not as interesting.
I love how popular to Mona Lisa is. xD Personally, I'm not too fond of it. I adore Leonardo and his various other works (art and science alike), but I think the only reason the Mona Lisa's so popular in general is because of how many times it's been stolen; that and b/c it's Leonardo's work.
When you were asking about the paintings at 5:02 the one on the right, i can't remember exactly, but it has some link the the Mona Lisa! Help me out anyone?
My family is full of artists so when I do get to go to the Louvre I'm going to read/skim through my art history textbook, but also just bring my dad along for a free audio guide :)
I like architecture/things I can take a picture of that look really neat, versus paintings, even though they're really cool too. I'm not much of a museum person. =/
so painful to watch after just being there! I remember there were alarms that kept going off in the corridors of the paintings, which was strange. sadly, ever since france converted to the euro every tourist attraction has been packed. The positive side is that money is keeping the buildings in shape, but as you said "hot and crowded" :\
Being an Art Major, i wish you could have shown more of the wings and painting. If you have any extra footage of the paintings, can you upload them? I've only seen them from books or slides. I would love to go there, but money is a little tight.
I've been to the louvre twice. The first time was OK. The second time there was a load of armed guards around, like army personel with rifles. I spent most of my time watching them and trying to figure out what they were doing whilst trying not to look suspicious.
I live here in Germany currently and whenever I go up to France (which actually is often) I enjoy the architecture slightly more. I appreciate the paintings and statues, because I'm a big art fan, but I find the architecture extremely fascinating every time I visit.
I like architecture, but I guess I like art more. Architecture, though designed by one person, in its execution it's built by many people. And that process is fascinating. But I like to ponder over the creation of a single piece of art from the mind and eye of one person. I like to read about the lives and influences of artists. "Girl With A Pearl Earring" is one of my favorite movies. I also consider music artistic. "Amadeus" is another favorite movie.
im a fan of both paintings and architecture really, i think art can tell you a lot about the people of the time and how they saw the world and the architecture can tell you about the culture, style and tech of the time, so they compliment each other in my mind :)
Architecture, definitely. I was admiring the building the whole time rather than focusing on the paintings. Crazy how tiny the Mona Lisa is though. I've heard it was small, but it's another thing to see it put into perspective so well. Thanks for sharing :D
omg... I know exactly where you are at whenever you're walking down a street of Paris. im French but live in Ireland and i miss Paris so much =( Dublin is still awesome though, you should come see ^_^
Hey Lindsay, looks like you are having a good time in Paris. :) Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip! My mom & aunt just got back from their trip to Paris on April 29, & they loved it!! :) Have a Wonderful time o your trip & I cant wait to see more videos from your travels!
I prefer 2-D art, pencil art in particular. With paintings and things like that, anything is possible. But when it comes to architecture, you're pretty limited because it's like... a building or whatever. But I enjoy art in all forms :)
@LinzLoves i understand too but I'm with you Linz, I prefer buildings ect. I just prefer the blandness of it all really xD paintings are too "deep" and colorful for me. xD
I LOVE art, one of the main reasons I loved Italy so much. I want to go to Louvre so bad! When I went Paris, it was closed because the workers were on strike. Just my luck. :D

LinzLoves 9 months ago 2
@LinzLoves The first painting with the woman and child is by Jacopo de'Barbari, is an italian painter and the painting is called Virgin at the fountain. Don't recocnise the other one though :/ looks very much like renesance Italian style, so guessing 1400 Italian painting. Hope you are having a wonderfull time in Paris, one of my favorite cities :)

@LinzLoves the one of the right was a self portrait of leonardo da vinci i think.

But, what do I know?
SorceressZila 9 months ago
When you were asking about the paintings at 5:02 the one on the right, i can't remember exactly, but it has some link the the Mona Lisa! Help me out anyone?

Maybe it's just because I'm an art nerd, but to speed walk through the louvre seems to be almost blasphemy.
SupaT1969 9 months ago
You're so pretty Linzy!!!!!
S93G 9 months ago
You know if you were to look at each painting in a Louvre for 10 sec each... it would take sometime like 11 years to get through the whole place!!
S93G 9 months ago
My family is full of artists so when I do get to go to the Louvre I'm going to read/skim through my art history textbook, but also just bring my dad along for a free audio guide :)

Did you have a Davinci Code moment?
CanadianShow 9 months ago
My favorite is watching the people who go to see the art (of any kind). They make the best street photography sometimes. :)
coldbritto 9 months ago
I like architecture/things I can take a picture of that look really neat, versus paintings, even though they're really cool too. I'm not much of a museum person. =/

I love the bridge with the Padlocks on. You should have left one with L&P on for you and Philly boy
thomaspsimpson 9 months ago
The flash of the cameras isn't why there's galss over the paintings. It make the paintings airtight so the oxygen won't make it deteriorate.

thegreatestdebater12 9 months ago
I like both, but the architecture and art museums in London, not in Paris, I'll never go back there, Drive straight through it.

Whose idea was it to put a big fucking pyramid shape in front of a beautiful palace/museum? MERDE!
NeutralWeezy 9 months ago
so painful to watch after just being there! I remember there were alarms that kept going off in the corridors of the paintings, which was strange. sadly, ever since france converted to the euro every tourist attraction has been packed. The positive side is that money is keeping the buildings in shape, but as you said "hot and crowded" :\
godminete 9 months ago
That's the entrance I went in too when I went to France. So much faster! :)

I didn't know the Mona Lisa was so tiny. Thought it was bigger...
I'm a big fan of architecture...I like paintings too, but architecture speaks to me...it tells me stories *badum tsch!*

I like how the nubs at the Louvre puts fake versions of the real paintings out to display XD

i would go to the louve and not even bother with the mona lisa just to be different. seriously, i don't even like it
cherrygirl016 9 months ago
Honestly I thought the Mona Lisa was quite anti-climactic. When you see it in person it's so small.

Being an Art Major, i wish you could have shown more of the wings and painting. If you have any extra footage of the paintings, can you upload them? I've only seen them from books or slides. I would love to go there, but money is a little tight.
nightman116 9 months ago
I've been to the louvre twice. The first time was OK. The second time there was a load of armed guards around, like army personel with rifles. I spent most of my time watching them and trying to figure out what they were doing whilst trying not to look suspicious.
SubtlyDifferent 9 months ago
I like both, because they both take so much time and energy and artistic ability to create and they both make the world more beautiful!
Rainbowsfailing 9 months ago
I live here in Germany currently and whenever I go up to France (which actually is often) I enjoy the architecture slightly more. I appreciate the paintings and statues, because I'm a big art fan, but I find the architecture extremely fascinating every time I visit.

omg i was there!!! it was absolutely phenomenal!! i wanna go back sooo bad!!!

i do not like paintings. i like buildings because they look so tall and cool
raymond12895 9 months ago
I like architecture, but I guess I like art more. Architecture, though designed by one person, in its execution it's built by many people. And that process is fascinating. But I like to ponder over the creation of a single piece of art from the mind and eye of one person. I like to read about the lives and influences of artists. "Girl With A Pearl Earring" is one of my favorite movies. I also consider music artistic. "Amadeus" is another favorite movie.
BTW, I worried about you in Morocco.

im a fan of both paintings and architecture really, i think art can tell you a lot about the people of the time and how they saw the world and the architecture can tell you about the culture, style and tech of the time, so they compliment each other in my mind :)
TheAssassinsClaw 9 months ago
I would say I'm like you Linz - Art is wasted on my too unless its something being drawn of yourself. LOL I like the buildings.
Tamossa 9 months ago
Didn't you find the Mona Lisa a bit dissapointing, i thought it would be this big central piece but found it was a small painting in a side room :-(.
gunker1991 9 months ago
Architecture, definitely. I was admiring the building the whole time rather than focusing on the paintings. Crazy how tiny the Mona Lisa is though. I've heard it was small, but it's another thing to see it put into perspective so well. Thanks for sharing :D

Next time, what about the Musee D'orsay? It has more modern stuff. :)

I prefer 2-D art, pencil art in particular. With paintings and things like that, anything is possible. But when it comes to architecture, you're pretty limited because it's like... a building or whatever. But I enjoy art in all forms :)

Not a big fan of either, but if I had to choose, architecture for sure
