Hello, it is a nice innovation to a good looking kit. I always wondered, however, that the design limits the flame height below the optimum distance. I tend to believe that the cup sits way below the hot spot of whatever the fuel one uses: hexi tab, trioxane, gel, or alcohol. I heard that it takes 10 minutes to boil .5L. Have you tried to raising the cup from the flame to at least 1 inch of distance?
@protuberant Thanks for watching, and I appreciate your comments. I guess I never really thought about it as a limit, but now that you mention it - I'll have another look and test. I'll be taking this kit out with me on a hike soon. Another YT friend made me a stand that allows for the use of a Trangia stove on this cooker.
@Ramarromaramaldo Thanks for watching - the tubing is surgical tubing (used also as elastic bands for sling shots). I have since changed the tubing to silicon. I found a supply at hobby shops - were they sell remote controlled fuel powered planes and boats, etc. I hope this helps.
get a cover that fit over the felt put a round hole in the middle about 1 in. or so plus you can put some 1/4 in. holes in the middle may make a better flame
The extra effort taken made this a joy to watch. I just picked up a mug like the one in your video. I think you will agree it needs a lid. Since you already have the same cup, do you already have a DIY lid for it? Looking for a short cut.
@EconoChallenge Thanks! I did make a few lids. First attempt was cardboard covered with aluminum foil. Finally - I used a piece of plate aluminum, traced the cup lip and used a sabre saw to cut one. You can see how it looks - just view the thumbnail for my Snow Hike and Some Gear vid - it's the featured view. The lid that BCB sells is plastic and a few users have melted their's.
@wawhiker OK. I like the idea of using some sturdy Aluminum. Already did the cardboard covered with tin foil for a different pot. Works great until you leave it out in the rain. LOL
@MrCableguyken Hi Ken! Winner, winner chicken dinner - it is a sports ball inflator with surgical tubing. I have silicon tubing but it does not stretch over the stem of the neddle threads.
@wawhiker lol...thought so...I use the cajun injector set that you get with marinades...cut the end off the needle, and use the syringe to inject more alcohol while the stove is burning...works great..but I like that idea even better...constant feed without having to keep checking on it.
That's a very cool up grade man :o) Carbon felt is cool stuff eh? Does it improve the boil time over the fiberglass wick? BTW, where did you get that setup?

What kind of plastic is your tube ?
I ask this because alchool and generally organic solvent destroy plastic materials:is it in a special material ?

bushcraftourway 1 year ago
@bushcraftourway it may be the injector needle from a marinade set...but a needle from a sports ball inflator would work also

@Ggreenvideos I'll have to do a boil test - the flame is larger with the carbon felt. I bought the kit at Best Glide Aviation Survival Equipment.
