OMG, I love it! I saw a woman today randomly at a meeting doing this (she was making a hat though) and I was so intrigued so I came across your videos! I'm so interested in this now! I've been wanting to make a scarf for a long time and your videos are really easy to follow. Thank you!
I finally gave up on trying to figure out how to knit a scarf and then I stumbled across your video. I already had looms and was making hats and I got so excited that it was possible to make scarves from looms! Thank you so much for posting these videos!
I just finished my first scarf! Great job on your tutorial, and thanks for including how to make and attach the tassels. I'll be mailing my scarf to my great Aunt in NY, I hope she likes it! :-)
Hi! Great videos and easy to understand. I am wondering if you ever made a tutorial on how to make a flat panel on a round loom. I have watched mikey's video, but I am very confused about the end stitches. He seems to leave the end stitches undone, and I can't, for the life of me, figure out how that "serves a purpose" as he says. It may be really easy, but I don't get how to turn around to go backwards and what to do with those stitches. Can you please make it clearer for me? Thank You!
I wanted to thankyou too. I just finished my first tubular scarf and I knew to check back to your video to see how to finish it so both ends match. Thanks so much for your video.
Thank you so very much for your tutorial. I've been looking for a scarf making one with no success. Thanks a lot for sharing your tip-off to make mine now:-)
Thank you for these great videos! I have never knitted before and your videos helped me make a scarf for my son. It turned out great and he will love it! Your videos are very easy to follow and understand! Thanks again. :-)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I'm in the middle of making a scarf on this loom for the first time, a quarter of the way done and just freaked out cuz I had no idea how to end it! You are a life saver!! Thank you again :D
@blondiestud00 It sort of depends on the height of your person. I've heard adult sized is anywhere from 60 - 70 inches, or 5-6 feet long. Another way to do it is make the scarf the same amount length wise as the person is tall. Also take into consideration how they will wear it. If they want to wrap the scarf around the neck, or tie it through a loop, then I'd make it longer. I usually test the length as I go and see what feels right.
@iamproverbs3125 If the ends of the scarf are gathered, then it will be easier. You will need a metal needle (sometimes called a tapestry needle) sold in a 2-pack for about $1 at crafts stores, which has a semi/blunt end and a large eye hold for easy threading. The blue plastic needle that comes with the looms is useless. The metal needle will cut through/between yarn strands. I try to run through the scarf & back through the pom pom a few times and hide/bury the ends inside the scarf
@starnstv thanks, and one more thing, the pom pom on the scarf you show, what did you make that with, i tried my pom pom maker and it was not large enough. i have been playing with different things and i just can not find the right size
@iamproverbs3125 Most of the time I just use my fingers and wrap the yarn around. If I want a really big pom pom I will spread my fingers out and then wrap around that. If you want anything larger than that I would try the side of a DVD case (like I do for the tassels only the short way. Hope that helps
@craftykid123 Not sure what you mean by "hard way". If you mean an open panel shawl where you cast on but not go all the way around the double back and e-wrap the opposite way around the loom circle to make a flat panel then that would work to make a thinner shawl. You could also go all the way around (like a tube scarf) on one of the large round or rectangle looms and make it extra thick that way, then wrap it around like a shawl.
You are amazing. I have a hard time learning things because if. I " think" I have missed something, I constantly question everything from that point on and end up ruining it. You did everything PERFECT !!! You showed each step clearly and as I watched all three videos I was very comfortable and felt confident that. I could do this. I am currently working on making a shawl that mickey taught. I want to make a hat and matching scarf w/tassels like you made. Whew!!! I am going to be a busy lady!!!
@sassylassy01 Thanks so much! :) I made these videos because I had a hard time finding a clear, understandable, start to finish project tutorial when I first got my looms. Glad I could help.
hey about how long are you suppose to make a scarf this is my first its for an adult but im not sure how long to make it thanks btw love your videos there so helpful and very clear thank you !!
@usmcrebelchick You can generally make it any length you want, but typically an adult scarf runs about 60-65 inches and depending if you want to wrap it around a time or two, maybe up to 72 inches. One thing people like to do is fold the scarf in half, loop around their neck and pull the tails through. As I'm making it sometimes I will "test" it and see where it hangs on me. Also tassels will add some extra length on the ends as well, so add that into your final length.
Thank you a lot. I've had so much trouble finding decent multi-colour tassel instructions, other than weird, complicated versions. Now I can finish off my scarf, and while its not a round-knit, it is still going to be great thanks to your help. \(^.^)/
great video. I picked up a long loom to do a scarf but it seemed so complicated. This way seems so much easier. I do have a question. I see that you used a single strand of yarn. Would using two make it too bulky and not flow well? Thanks so much for the clear instruction.
@potterfan74 Yes. I use one strand just for demonstration, but if you want a hat/scarf for warmth I'd use two strands. The 4-ply yarn I am using here (red heart) is not that expensive to buy, so by using 2 skeins of the same yarn you can make a much warmer, thicker scarf, but not have to spend tons of money on fancier/thicker ply yarns. I have also made scarves with the rectangle loom (using 2 strands as well) and they are trickier, but maybe I will post a video soon on how to do that too.
Is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem with the last stitch before the outer peg being like...taller? I made a striped scarf and you can see that the last stitch is above the first one. Does this happen to all round loom projects, or just mine? xD
@littlemissyami I honestly don't know how to make a beret w/ a loom. But I will say that I started on round looms, progressed to long looms to make blankets, then I wanted to make cute edges for the blankets & wanted to crochet an easy edging. I learned how to crochet from this awesome gal online "the art of crochet by Teresa" She goes from the basics and she has amazing tutorials for making tons of things, even a beret step by step. A few basic stitches is all you need to make anything.
Thank you soo much for this! I just had one question, I wan't to make a wider non-circular scarf, would I just go backwards instead of finishing the circle? What I mean is say the last ped is number 20, would I go 1 2 3 ... 18 19 and when I hit 20 instead of going onto 1 go back to 19 then 18 and so on? Sorry if that makes no sence, Thanks again for the tut!
@xXFoxPawXx Yes. It's called a flat panel on a round loom. If you type that into youtube search box there are some videos on how to double back. Mikey Smalls has some good ones I think. The scarf will be thinner and will come out like a long rectangle. Also you might want to check out getting a rectangle/long looms. It's a different stitch but you can make flat panels for scarves, blankets of any width.
I just finished making one of these scarves, it was easy and really quick. Using one strand worked out really well, it made a really warm and cozy scarf. I've already had a few requests from friends to make one for them!
Hi thank you so much this video Im making this type of scarf and was wondering how I was going to end it. I really love all your turtorials and hope that you will continue to make more, I would like to see some on different stitches, Garter Stitch, Honeycomb, Rib stitch, etc. That would be great if you have the time. You are really a good teacher. thank you again
Your videos are clear, educational & entertaining. The tips & hints are great & I was very impressed with your instructions for finishing off from the loom... Top class stuff! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your videos they are extremely helpful! I have already made a 2 hats from your videos, and I am currently working on a scarf that I would like to add pom poms to the end but I don't know how to add it to the last opening. Because I can't turn it inside out so I'm not sure what to do. Can you please tell me how you did that? Thank you
@PurpleMonkey0921 - Thanks! Sure. After you have both ends of the scarf cinched up and tied off make one pom pom for each end. I leave a long tail of two strands (that I tied the pom pom with) and I thread that on a yarn needle (a metal need works so much better than the plastic one the looms come with, you can get one at a craft store for $1 or so) then right near the tip of the cinched scarf you sew the pom pom in, weaving the needle back and forth and even knotting it a few times.
@PurpleMonkey0921 Just make sure the pom pom is sewn close to the tip of the scarf tightly and is secure (pull on it a few times to make sure it will stay on), then pom pom itself is usually large enough to cover your stitches and they stay hidden under all the poof.
You really do do a great job explaining things. Nice and easy! I learned to make a hat from you as well! I am going to try this now. In reference to your hats... I have a 6 yr old so I use the red loom when making her a hat. About how many rows do you think I should knit when making a hat?? Also... do you know how to knit a flat panel with the round loom. So I can make turn them into an afghan.
@butterflyz426 Thank-you! Yes The red loom works best for kids. Also if you have a child with a larger head (like my nephews who are 8), or a lot of hair I've also used the green round loom (adult size) for my 6-year old on some hats. It's not so tight that way. When making a hat for a child or adult I try to make the brim a few inches wide, then when starting the length of the hat it's usually between 15-18 rows before I cinch the top up.
@butterflyz426 Also I will try to post a video soon on how to do a flat panel on a round loom. You also might want to check out the long rectangular looms, as they are set up to make panels for blankets (and also scarves, bags, etc)
made my scarf turned out GREAT! Thanks :) Now can you show me how to make an afghan using the round looms :-) I have looked everywhere and no one can explain how to knit like you do!
You are an AMAZING instructor. I just finished a gorgeous pink and gray scarf following your videos. I would take classes from you in a heartbeat! :-)
PS: I also wanted to add that in these videos you're just so likable and motherly and calm that makes it even easier to learn and follow along, much more so than other videos I've tried to watch. =)
OH. MY. GOD. Thank you SO FREAKIN' MUCH for making and posting these videos, ma'am. You've no idea how happy it made me when I realised, 'Holy crap, I could actually DO this!' So clear and precise and simple to follow. Thank you! ♥
I just bought my loom, and must have watched like 8 other videos and this is the only one that I actually understand and am able to follow. Thanks so much !! =]
@Nicktasticpiano Most scarfs (using only 1 color) on a loom I can do over a period of two evenings like while watching tv shows at night, a few hours each night. The color change one took a little longer due to all the switching of colors.
@yellowdaisies88 Yes. This video from Mikeyssmail teaches how to do that (until I can make a video of my own) I have learned a lot from him. If you do a flat panel on a round loom it tends to curve in. You also might want to try using/buying a flat small rectangle loom for scarves. Search for flat panel on round loom and find his video. Hope that helps
thanks!
