Nice quick fix looks a little flimsy. I've been using the Cam Caddie SCorpion for the past year with great success. $38 and I have myself a sturdy and efficient Steadycam.
this design really doesn't stabilize the camera all that much, because you are not actually taking the movement out of your step, instead, you are just messing with center of gravity to sorta kinda smooth out the shots. Which works parts of the time.

1/2" PVC, 2.5LBs weight, standard thread for camera, and end pieces that need bolts to tighten.
