  • i never rode on a locomotive before in my life

  • Kool Cab

  • anyone know what model train horn that is?

  • @BigM161 K3LA or K3HA by Airchime/Nathan.

  • @ 7:00 out comes the cooler, lol

  • 10 Loads, 63 Empties. I love how anything that goes north are nothing but empty cans and extra motors when almost everything south needs at least one DPU.

  • Engine wheel slip at 8:04?

When departing from stopped, must one very gently take up slack to avoid overstressing a coupler and breaking it?

  • @robertgift Yes, release train brakes, notch 1 and slowly release your independent brakes.

  • @EMD710G Thank you.

If you stop on an upgrade and the train istretched out, is it more difficulto gethe whole train moving since you can not get one-car-moving-at-a-time as slack is incrementally taken up?

  • @robertgift 1.Advance the throttle to RUN 1.

    2.Reduce the independent brake.

    3.Release the automatic brake.

4.As the brakes release toward the rear of the train, advance the throttle to RUN 2 or higher to start the

    train moving.

5.Slowly reduce the independent brake until it is fully released. If the train will not start, consider doubling

    or getting helpers.

One more thing - Applying power on a standing locomotive longer than necessary will damage DC

    traction motors.

  • Is this the fastest this guy can go?

  • Thanks for posting this awsome train cab view video.

In my lifetime, I have been able to go inside the cab

of an engine twice....and naturally, both times, they

    were stpped. LOL!!

  • How can you have 6 Loco's at the front and still be doing 8 mph ?????? American diesels are awesome though.

  • @MrCagivaman Speed restriction while the train is in the yard.

  • @MrCagivaman

Dude the throttle was in like notch 1 of 8 and 3 of loco's were dead in tow. Relax. haha if they wanted to rip off the drawbars they could just put it in full throttle.

  • How can you have 6 Loco's at the front and still be doing 8 mph ??????

  • @MrCagivaman 3 units off-line, the other 3 online are more than enough(12,400hp) given his weight profile. To keep the slack stretched exiting the yard and from the looks of it he seems to be descending slightly there. Power braking his way out will be the way to go, hence N3 and only doing 9-10mph. This method gives him some control of the train speed until he clears the yard tracks.

  • grease sprayer at 9:22

  • Great that Santa is the conductor

  • nice video.

  • do trains get to keep mini fridges on them??

  • i filmed one train at the grade crossing seen at 4:48 into the clip.

  • @masonclan We've always had a bell.

  • i filmed one train at the grade crossing seen at 4:48 into the clip

  • Why nowadays locomotives in USA still has the ringing bell?

  • @cycoo The bell is required by federal law and used as a warning device along with the horn. The bell is rung when passing other trains where someone may be crossing over.

  • Great video!

  • In 2007 I rode Amtrak from K-falls to Seattle. We arrived late,of course but an enjoyable trip. My father and grandfather worked for the U.P. so I rode the train for free often in the 50s & 60s. This trip brought back a lot of old memories. Today I carry a 1911 Hamilton 992 pocket watch. Any connection to my roots?

  • DARN!!!!

how fast do they run where u took the beginning shot? at 0:15

  • Der Sound der Loks und das Bild 20*.

  • How did you get this fotidge

  • Haha, notice the ductape on the corner just to the left of the mic at 4:25. Bet the access panel for the radio is broken and falling off or it has been replaced by a piece of cardboard.

  • 5*****!

  • COOOLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

  • Someone has asked what type of train this is?

Its Union Pacific. You can see that logo in front of the Loco.

  • i dont get how all these people get to ride with them..... how can i ride in one?

  • @BoostedB16A90 Get lucky :-) Back in the mid 90's i lived in a small town and would go watch the train as it stopped to offload cargo at one of the local factories. The engineer noticed i was there all the time watching, and one day asked if i would like a ride a few miles or so down the tracks to his next stop. If that fails there is a R.R. museum in California in which you can pay to operate a locomotive for an hour (under supervision of course). I did that as well.

  • @salemcripple I'm doing more then "An Hour" at my local railroad museum. We restored a BN U-Boat and I'm currently her operating Cab Conductor. Museum says in 5 more volunteer years they'll take my application for engineer Apprenticeship :)

  • @BlackWolfessUSCM I meant they charge by the hour. We actually paid for three hrs operating time in it. But that's awesome you get to work on a U-boat! Most of us poor schmucks aren't that lucky. The closest to that i ever got is taking a tour of the U.S.S Blueback in Portland, which was cool because the man giving the tour was one of the former crew of it.

  • What happened to part 4?

  • Does anyone know what loco type this is?

  • @flyguy1237 sd70m

  • @crevis99 Thanks.

  • looks like he going give her hell! Highball

  • AWESOME>>>>

  • When Im 39 Im Going To Be One As Well

  • Damn, that consist was booking. I'm guessing he was doing 75+ mph in the first shot?

  • @shadynebey looks more like 50-60. 70 is the top speed for up frieght nowadays

  • I've been to Kalamath.

  • Excellent job congratulations, grate quality film and narration.

    Thanks for share

    Eduardo (Argentina)

  • cp rail does not let anyone smoke its one of the rules they got its a good idea tho

  • But I want Training

  • Had no idea this was gonna take place in Klammath Falls (lived there 2 years). When it showed that first autorack train, I said "man that looks like Klammath Lake!!" Good video.

  • Awesome job! How did you get a cab ride?

  • 5***** from Germany!

  • Are the locomotives controls all connected, like the operator's (in the lead engine) controls linked to the others, and if so what do the controls do in the slave unit cabs when the operator adjust his? (do they move or are they motionless) I assume the new computer controls link them all, but what about the older analog systems? Sorry about the "10 year old" line of questioning, lol! Just curious.

  • When the engineer changes a control in the first engine, the other engines respond. But the controls in the other engines do not move.

  • You can smoke in the cab, as long as the rest of the crew doesn't mind.

  • Of course that depends on the railroad.

In many operations smoking is strictly prohibited.

  • Wow nice!!!!!!

  • i wonder is the operators are allowed to smoke on the train.

  • Wonderful! I really enjoyed this!

  • i wish UP wasnt so harsh on their rules :(

  • Where is number 4???

  • sweeettt standard controls

  • WHAT KIND OF HORN IS ON THAT TRAIN

  • K3LA

  • Excellent video, but I am eager to see this part 4 too. I love the PNW, especially Oregon.

  • Low fuel 380 gallons geez .

  • Those things had a a problem with b/o fuel gauges

  • This may be a simple question but what kind of fuel does a loco hold and what kind of fuel do they burn running down the line?

  • They hold and burn diesel .

  • lol damn I guess I had that coming. HaHa I meant what kind meaning how many gallons, and what kind of fuel running meaning consumption. Sorry I should have been a little more clear Thanks for the response. lol

  • They can hold from 170 gallons to 5800 gallons depending on each Locomtoive model and the owner custom specs .

  • @CSXAC6000CW Most likely the fuel gauge is messed up, very common problem.

  • Wow I enjoyed this video an the rest, where is part 4 an on at?

  • Awesome!!! wheres part No. 4?
