  • I like her HBON shirt.

  • @markpugh89 no..

  • autistic children are trully gifted they all have little things they exel in and im always amazed with the things they can do my lad of 7 is an avid ps3 gamer and also loves the water lol but the game hes most into is the second little big planet game hes compleated the whole thing its amazing how he has worked out how to make his own items in the game ,in the moon he has made loads of veicles n things which i find too complex for myself he now shows me and gets a good thrill to show me how lol

  • My daughter is also "gifted" i believe she may have inherited my condidtion... there are possitives all the time, why do people see the negatives... this line makes me want to vomit "according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" i cant believe that.. its horrible it is not a disaese so why the hell is that up there? these children are gifted, and are wonderful gifts to us... it "normal" peopel that have a propblem, not the child... enough said!

  • you make a mockey of the condidtion.. it is not something that need cured!!! it is a way of life, it needs support the conditon needs more understanding, and this view is exactly what makes the world respond to autistic children the wrong way... so many girls are undiagnosed and live misserably, just because they dont "fit the label" there are different ends of the spectrum, it looks to me as tho you are making fun, rather than adressing things properly... im sorry for harsh words,>

  • omg .. this is disgusting that you can see this as a disease!!! its not an illness its a way of life! im an aspie my friend i'm autistic and far as i see it in many ways i have gifts because of it.. but the other side of life has been very diffucult for me... all we need is support... and you are doing is reinforcing a label we try hard top fight.. we all have unique brains, but similar traits, some are more indented, others are milder. but this is really niave! and you make a mockey >

  • Me and her has something in common. I too am a gamer and I have autism.

  • she's playing the same game my autistic daughter loves to play lolcute

  • this title is very ignorent i agree autism is a serious issue and children with autism need help.

but the one that makes my blood boil about this subject is parents who use autism as an excause for there kids, kids with autism should be treated the same as every other kid and that include's taking responsisility for there actions.

  • Yoshis Island :D

  • i have a 4 yr old autistic daughter and she says a few words but mostly she just makes sounds . but she loves to watch cartoons and play with blocks and puzzles and even tho she doesnt talk much shes very smart. i love her and even though its hard sometimes i wouldnt want her any other way. she taught me to have patience and to be alot more compassionate.

  • What game is she playing?

  • @reidrules45 It sounds like "Yoshi's Island". I had that game, so I remember the sound effects.

  • She's playing Yoshi's Island!

  • id thought parents would try to break the videogame habit with their kids and get them out to play more.

  • cant her parents get her something better than a gameboy SP that thing is like 10 years old, i bet it costs like $20 to buy brand new

  • @PieOfDoom72 First off, if you read the description, this is the daughter of a single mom. Secondly, this video was posted in 2006. So perhaps, at the time, this was the best there was available for a single mother to get her daughter. Raising a child isn't easy or cheap. Raising an autistic child adds to an already stressful situation and is even less cheap. For one parent trying to do it on her own, My hat is off to her.

  • She looks like she can play better than me :0)

    Awesome Video And Topic!

  • Awww, she's such a doll =) My little brother does this too, talking to himself while playing his games, it's really where he and I have been able to connect. Grab the Wii, a couple controllers, spend a few hours letting him beat me at them all. So nice to be able to see how others with the same disability act~

  • My son has a DS and he likes to play it so much, that when hes in the bathroom if he does not have his DS hes bored, so we let him play his DS in the bathroom, when hes not in the bathroom hes playing x-BOX. I used to have to take x-Box away to make him eat, now he will eat before or inebtween playing-x-BOX

  • I think she is talking aloud to herself about the game as she plays it, she is enjoying her game, good on her for enjoying her life. Some kids with anxiety/disabilities might display certain behaviours, because they invented these behaviours as a way of coping.

  • @theassholecrustshit wow, get a fuckin life and a heart douche

  • That's what my brother does. He is 5 years old and he loves playing Mario and Sonic games. He talks a little more then the girl in this video but, a lot of his speech is nonsense.

  • My daughter is autistic as well- I see some similarities in my daughter and yours. She is a beautiful little girl. Please see my videos - ghostorchid100

  • @theassholecrustshit geez y are u so mean?

  • Watching a kid playing a video game. Is that the point of this video? If so, it's a really boring video. But wait, you're documenting your daily trials with her, right? What are you really showing here? A boring video of a kid playing a video game... with a twist! She makes weird vocalizations while she does it, which is such a trial for a poor mom like you.

Or is it maybe your intention to display her as the Marly Freak Show?

Why on Earth did you post this video? Who does it help?

  • @dcs002 - you are a rude idiot- this is a great video for parents like me with autistic children, we share videos like this so people can see and learn...its amazing she is so focused and able to play the game...You need to educate you self and if you are not interested- DONT WATCH!

  • @dcs002 I think you're right in most respects but to say "A boring video of a kid playing a video game... with a twist! She makes weird vocalizations while she does it, which is such a trial for a poor mom like you." you are a very discriminative person :P you need to learn that not all parents are poor and that this video is to basically meant to help other parents understand their child better (although in my opinion they don't need help from others if they need to understand their child.)

  • @dcs002 You are very rude, the POINT of this video was a little "inside circle" secret... let me explain: I have a bother who is very much autistic and he does the same thing; the chattering and singing as he plays a video game.... it's CUTE and it's something that most Autistic children have in common.

  • @MissPinkIsPimp Fine, I'm rude. What do you expect from an autistic person? I'm tired of seeing autistic people, especially kids, portrayed as oddities. We're people! I had enough of the awful normals giggling about my behavior as a kid. Now Marly's mother has taken it to a worldwide audience.

Marly will grow up one day and see how her mother used her as the centerpiece in her pity party. She will realize that her mom should have been putting her needs first, and that she is not a cute oddity.

  • @dcs002 I, TOO AM AUTISTIC. I have spd/sdi, like my son and was diagnosed with mental health issues my whole life but they were constantly changing. My son has the same thing as me. I went to a sensory site and took a questionairre because alot of what id been learning sounded like me as a child and crossed over into my adult life. It was confirmed by my psychologist. kids were mean. but by sharing her child shes trying to teach understanding not seeking pity. i made my son a vid. AND I <3 HIM

  • Have you tried to put in the child's food medical marijuana?

I heard that a mom has cured her autistic child with MMJ.

  • Is she verbal? And how old is she in this video and now (present day)? She seemed as though she was non-verbal.

  • My autistic son started playing the PSP when he was 2, it a whole lot better than him banging his head on the floor. These games are important to these kids and stressed out parents. You wouldn't understand, unless you had autistic kids.

  • Autism isn't a DISEASE and therefore people who have any form of autism do NOT need this "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" helping them!!!

Oh and not all parnts are "desparate to get help" my parents didn't need help with me because they are SMART people!!!

  • @Deadboy360 - not all autistic people are like you- some need help even if their parents are smart- you seem very smart and high functioning but not all people with autism are...some children do need help-my daughter has had therapy since she was 18 months old and it has helped GREATLY!

  • @ghostorchid100 I know but I'm just simply offended at the fact that that information comes from some place called "Centers for DISEASE Control" -________- it's the word "Disease" that offends me -________________- You and I both know well enough that ANY FORM of Autism is not a Disease and therefore anyone with the syndrome doesn't need help from places that have the word "disease" in their profession name.

and also I never said that no child needs help. I said that NOT ALL children need help.

  • @ghostorchid100 p.s. please don't think I'm having a go at you because I wasn't, I was merely stating that you assumed I said something where I did not.

  • omg...is she playing yoshi?

  • Please mtrueba, I am saying this from the depths of my heart. If you eliminate gluten and dairy from your childs diet you WILL see a different child. Give it a try for a few weeks. I assure you your life will be A LOT easier and you could post how much your sweet marly has developed instead of the trials you face. May God...or the Universe (whatever you believe) bless you and guide you. With love.

  • Super cute. She seems very mellow and can entertain herself well for the most part. She reminds me a bit of my niece, who is 5, and has Autism. Can your daughter speak? I heard her Autistm Language a bit, it's super cute.

I thought your video would be about someone giving you a hard time because she is acting different in public- I encounter those types of people all the time. The ignorant ones. And I always just go- "excuse me they're autistic what's the matter with you?"

  • She's about 8 in this film, isn't she? I think Tanaka would love her a lot; she's so adorable. (Tanaka is 10 this year.)

  • She obviously can function like any normal person. If the mother would just talk to her like a normal adult would, instead of barking commands repetitively and baby talk. This would be a standard video of a normal kid playing the gameboy. Instead of using the child for her sympathy and attention, which is blatantly obvious because of the "excuse me,SHES AUTISTIC" titles.

  • Does she, or did she ever have a meltdown from losing?

My aspie son would at times, but he has gotten better.

  • Where is she on the spectrum?

  • my brother is just like that with Donkey Kong Country! he has autism too

  • She's playin' Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. I hate that game.

  • It's not really made for the handhand in my oppinion

  • My 9yr old daughter is autistic and is so in tuned with computers, games, dvd players etc. Isn't it amazing how they are naturally gifted in technical areas. Being the parent of an autistic child is very exhausting. I understand how hard it is to have time for yourself. Especially when family and friends aren't comfortable babysitting.

  • I'm curious; just what IS the difference between autism and mental retardation? Someone I work with has a niece with autism, and she said that the two are not the same. How do they differ?

  • Autistic people range in IQ from mentally retarded to extreme genius. Autism is related to sensory issues rather than intelligence, whereas retardation is a measure of diminished intelligence. I hope this was helpful.

  • mental retardation affects all mental abilities, autism only affects communication

which would mean that autistic people are just aas capable as non autistic people, theyre just not as capable communicating all the information to people who do not understand/have no patience/are too stupid or have little to no social skills themselves

  • I would be overjoyed if I had autism/schizophrenia, I beleive it would add a new depth to life, and bring back the perspective of a child, where everything is wonderous.

  • Autism maybe. Schizophrenia though haha be careful what u wish for. I have autism and its brilliant but I've had a taste of psychosis from staying up a few days on speed and holy mother of god it might sound like fun but its not. Hearing evil voices, thinking helicopters are following you, thinking theres police up trees, spending 3 hours looking for an imaginary burglar your convinced is sneaking around your house is no fun.

  • Wow. I don't want to sound rude but you don't know what you're wishing for. As an adult with Autism I can assure you its not all positive. I had an uncle with Paranoid Schizophrenia and that isn't something you want either.

  • Don't wish for such a thing! be happy that you have your health...as well as the gifts and abilities that you have been given.

  • Yes she is diagnosed with autism and not AS - dont ask me why. I'm sick of Doctors and all thier opinions.

  • wow you are so ignorant about psychology and the need to have different opinions when it comes to these kinds of disorders.

the reason why she is diagnosed with autism and not asperger's is probably because she has more serious or chronic symptoms (asperger's is basically a mild form of autism).

  • @theassholecrustshit shes not retarded you moron, shes has autism. retardation and autism arent the same you worthless piece of a human. how dare you say something so horrible. and even if she was mentally retarded, u would do some thing like that to a child who cant defend them self? you piece of shit.

  • this is a message to all those people who think autistic people are stupeid...

my brother has autism and he is the smartest in his class he is grade 6 and does maths at a year 9 standed! he can spell better then me and im in year 8 and his computer skills are great!

  • i am 15 years old and i got autism,

Since my 6th year of living my parents made a Diagnose of me.

    I was Autistic,

When i come home from school.

I will start my computer so quick as possible.

If i play Games i forget everything around me

I will play i will share, i will do everything i can do.

I will be in my own world.

Autism a thing you must never forget.

Don't think they are retards they are the same as you.

  • I think that this type of view is ridiculous! I have worked with people that have autism, and I have friend's that have autism, Autism is a spectrum disorder, meaning there are different severity of the disorder. Who says a person who has Autism can't think deeply? Maybe they think more deeply then 90% of the world that makes shallow assumptions? I think individuals with Autism are some of the brightest most thoughtful people I know... and HOW DARE you say otherwise.

  • @butterflyhope1986 Are you relatively related to "christschool"? Cause he sounds as stupid as you do. One thing you got right, Autism is a spectrum (of multiple levels)

Their world is so freakin'different from ours though..

(my son "only " has pdd nos an low iq) so that does not count at all? fuck ppl who wanna be a wise ass like the 2 of u. makes me sick in the stomach...

  • @butterflyhope1986 No Thats not what Autism is autism is a diesease that when you are in your own little world your not in the world everyone else is in this really is a Pathetic video though

  • @butterflyhope1986 Did you ever see clips about Carly Fleischmann? She is a low-functioning autistic girl who learned to type, and showed that just because she cannot verbalize her thoughts does not mean she does not have as much depth as the rest of us. She has proven to be quite wise and a true inspiration.

  • @butterflyhope1986 I'm with you 100% on that... thank you! I'm autistic and know a few who are also.. and believe me we think deeply... some are not as able as i am to communicate that across... others are. bless you :)

  • And if your opinion is that autistics are incapable of thinking deeply, than clearly, it is you who is not thinking. We are quite capable of thinking for ourselves, thank you - yes, even deeply. Some of us are more capable of expressing those thoughts in ways that neurotypicals can understand than others. But just because you cannot understand the expression of the thought does not make it any less valid - your expression often doesn't make much sense to us, either, and I daresay you would

  • consider it valid, would you not. It's like two people trying to carry on a conversation, one speaking Russian, and the other Japanese. They can each be sharing great philosophy and how to solve the world's problems, but if they can't understand each other's language, neither will appreciate how deep the other's thoughts are. In answer to the obvious, yes, I am autistic. I'm 25 years old, have a college degree, a place of my own, and a job as a chemist. Don't judge a condition by its sterotypes.

  • you seem to have a solid thought process and on the same level as the rest of the people on here =0 I couldnt tell if I were to pick out of the posters.

  • Allichem

good for you it's ppl like you that give me hope for my own AS son. I'm always so worried and overprotective of how ppl veiw him. He is my world!!

  • @allichem well said! xx

  • @sanvabit that is very much the same as what I do XD and I'm 23 (will be 24 next week!) you and I have much in common on the grounds of games and computers :S I always get up and switch on my console (sometimes) but mainly I switch on my "life suport machine" (my laptop is technically my life because I use it everyday hahaha!!!!!!) but yeah I agree even if I was rich and famous I'd never forget that I have Asperger's Syndrome =) (one of th mildest forms of autism) anyway... good luck to you =)

  • Are you sure that video games with completely unreal and arbitrary worlds and concepts are good for autistic kids?

  • i swear my little sister plays shooter games!

she plays: bioshock, gears of war, halo 3,the orange box and call of duty 4.

and shes only 7! lol my little sister plays way better than my girlfriend!

  • There's nothing wrong with enjoying a good video game ........ And what's wrong with good concentration...... That's rare in this day an age. That should be rewarded IMO.

  • my son who is six and has autisim also is fixated with his nintendo aswell

  • i wish i could hang out with her. she seems like a lot of fun.

  • You sick freak.

  • i wish i had her level of concentration! shes amazing :)

  • Looks like she may have some kind of Tourette´s too.

  • I know two people with autism. One with less severity. He is living independtly, but has trouble writting and communicating. The other one I know has it severe. He can't speak. He has a picture board he points to when he wants something and he taps your back twice for a drink of water. He has a computer to help him speak, but it broke

  • I could tell that the girl was playing Yoshi's Island because of the Yoshi noises. :)

  • I have two autistic boys and both love their games with a passion. They even have this very game and they play it all the time.

The older of the two boys has trouble putting the games down, even to eat or use the bathroom, but he's learning to accept the time limits.

When the boys aren't playing the game, they "play" the game in their heads; making the sound effects, and repeating the dialogue from the game itself. It's now become a role playing game for them; it helped them interact better.

  • omg i have the exact same game! lol

  • She sounds like my little cousin.

He has a type of autism where he can't speak English properly, but he has his own words for things.

He's getting better at English and can say things like "Dad", "Audrey", "Juice" and he can also sign a bit.

He can sign "More", and he does a lot.

    Haha.

    :3

  • She's playing Yoshi's Island...fun game!

  • My son has autism and loves video games. I find a lot of kids with Autism need the sense of " accomplishment" , whether its competing a video game or finishing a drawing. It gives them confidence. Dont worry about all the comments you get from uneducated people.

  • She sure looks happy when she plays...

  • By "happy" you must mean "apathetic".

  • Nope. At one point in the video she is smiling. She is happy, in her own way.

  • No that's not nice.

  • My younger sister is Autistic. She is 17 now but when she was around 7 and 8ish she behaved much like this girl. I know that basically every Autistic person is different but out of all the documentaries I've watched, this is the only child I've found to be like here. My sister is in high school now and speaks very well. She is doing better and better and I couldn't be more proud of her!

  • Shes autistic you idiot dont you have a heart?

  • wat is that game?

  • i think it's yoshi!

  • nobody knows i guess

  • l o l.

  • Do you find that using the video games as rewards to end tantrums or difficult activities that you want her to perform helps? I am a 1:1 for a preschooler with autism, and I'm at a crossroads as to what to do when he tantrums or when i want him to do his "work"...he too loves musical games, and I'm wondering if rewarding with them would work? Have you tried it?

  • I would not recomend using them as a reward. I have a 3 year old son with autism, and I also taught childern with autism in school. They do not learn to preform taks because it's asked of them, they do for a reward, and when there no reward they will not work you with you. That's just my experince though.

  • YOur mixing up the use of bribes and rewards.

Usually bribing is used to stop a behavior that is happening right there and it is not safe or i am burn out and tired.

Rewards are used to teach consequences of behaviors or work that is done or not done.

  • Each person chooses to raise thier child in their own way. That does not make my way of my son right, and everyone elses wrong. It just makes them differant. Each child will need thier own modivations, what works for one child may not work for the next.

  • My 10 year old autistic son is a game boy maniac! He's also a wiz at the computer (games and getting into my files!!). She's a very cute little girl! :o)

  • Hey, dude, she's got a future job now. Game-system tester, console-tester, gaming tester, anything that deals in hardcore gaming, so don't worry about her! Btw, I got the same color Nintendo DS Lite! XD Awesome video, 5/5.

  • Cute. Nothing wrong here, she's just like me and most of my friends, plus my littlest brother (he plays Pokemon)

  • i no an autistic kid hes really nice i couldnt watch this past 51 its 2 sad!

  • Lovely Human being.

Don´t get me wrong, but this world needs more people like her.

  • "Some parents of kids with severe autism may find that a child's needs overwhelm the family's ability to live peacefully."

My brother has extremely severe autism. He can't speak at all (apart from noises). It affects my family to the extent where we can't go on holiday or anything.

  • yoshi's island!! She's really lovely.

  • she is soooo like my daughter ! thanx for the videos, now everyone can see a pure spirit, with no malice or hate, autism does have its good points! keep on keepin on xxoo

  • You have a beautiful daughter! Does she use the computer as well? My son is just learning to use the mouse.

  • Some odd years ago, this was mostly boys, and it wasn't really known. What happen was lot of these boys ended up labled as trouble makers. Now I am starting to see more Autism with girls. Wonder what is happing? Why the big attack on girls now?

  • I agree! A friend of my mum's has 2 autistic daughters. I would have thought this was rare, but it turns out that there are loads. It quite confuses me.

  • I enjoyed watching your videos. About that game your daughter was playing, it's Yoshi's Island, one of my all time favorites! I recognize the music and sound effects!

By the way, I have Asperger's Syndrome, and I didn't admit it until 17 and 1/2 years old; then, I told my pals about it so they'd understand. I have issues with understanding people and emotional expressions, but according to my wonderful parents and close friends, I have sharp talents and likable personality.

  • i have adhd too im fine with it im artistic too looka t my profile

  • Thank you so very much for these videos on your daughter. My son was diagnosed with Aspergers/ADHD and sometimes I forget just how blessed we truly are. Then I see something like this and I want to cry. It truly is sad that most people will never comprehend just how special these children are. Your daughter is very beautiful...inside and out. Is she always so well behaved? God Bless you and your daughter!!!!

  • i`m ADHD and i love it! i wouldn`t change a bit - even if i`m living in a totally mess and i do things different than other people. but i have skills "normal" people can never learn. so it`s a good price I have to pay for special abilities...

  • Thanks for these videos. They are lovely and give a portrait of a beautiful soul.
