Ah the new smell of a brand new plane, Pilots all happy, saying lets do this, show me what you are really made of. BTW does anybody know where i can find a doc on building jumbo jets, etc etc starting from the metal that is used, how it was shaped tested etc etc... I would like to see the complete making of a jumbo jet, from start to finish. Thanks
This is the very same DC-10 used in the AA commerical back in 71. You all should watch this vid, you will see her being torn up as well :(( watch?v=U9rEhW8SWcU&feature=related
Flew on AA DC-10's many times as a kid in the 80s and 90s, as the golden age of flying was drawing to a close. Even got to visit the cockpit of a DC-10 at 35K feet enroute from DFW to Hololulu in '86.
It's too bad my kids wont get to expierience that.
Too inefficient, they required a flight engineer, but mostly due to age. AA retired their as last DC-10 in 2000 and replaced them with the 767 and then all-new 777.
That was a quick takeoff. I fly too. I can imagine twr told them "cleared for immediate takeoff". That means get out of there fast. Throw the throttles to the wall because there is probabley another aircraft on short final about to land on that same runway.
@jjouney Thanks, I love watching these old AA video's from the 80's and 90's. American was such a powerful airline back then, ruled by a man with an iron fist, that struck fear and admiration in all the other airline CEO's in the U.S. It is so sad what has happened to AA, they have completely gone off course. At one time, AA was only slightly smaller than UAL in ORD, now ORD is basically a large Eagle base with a handful of mainline flights. Good Luck with CH.11 AA, I'm rooting for ya!
@aamd80seniorcaptain Yes, and AA flight 191 was a Los Angeles bound DC10-10 tail number N110AA..The aircraft in this video is N101AA, which is the prototype DC10.....And I flew on N101AA on Easter Sunday 1991, from Detroit to Chicago OHare.
@sixstringfretter Actually it was only 20 years ago and I log all my passenger flights, just like a Pilot would do in a pilot log book...I have been ever since I started flying as a passenger in 1983....
@AccessAir My bad on the math ;) How many air miles have you accumulated? I bet it is an interesting ledger. At one point, I was in the air more than most pilots because of the job I had. But it was just local hops to regional airports. Many 727, MD80, MD90 and 737's. Not including the puddle jumpers. I wish I had logged them all as faithfully as you did.
1:38 Random 727 (most likely Continental) appears out of nowhere.

Ya I agree with KuostA...That spool up was insane. I turned my speakers up ;)

Amazing how you don't see wide bodies on domestic flights anymore...anymore this is all MD-80 or RJ equipment.

Scrapped in 2002? Why didn't they just call me? I would have taken it.

@aaroncar I'm actually surprised Boeing didn't take it. It would have looked great at the museum on static display

@jjouney I know right! Scrapping such a beautiful aircraft should be illegal!!!!

@jgstargazer So true! The DC-10 had a very distinctive look, as did the 1011, 727. Now, all of the tails just blend in..

Does anyone know where it was going. My "guess" would be ORD, DFW, LGA, JFK, or maybe IAD.

@TomsFriendKake This was a flight to Dallas DFW.. I'll post info in the description

@AccessAir You remember the tail number of a commercial airline you rode on 30 years later? That's hard to believe.
