Just saw this movie. Don't expect an epic storyline like the previous Miyazaki movies. This is a more personal movie about struggle to survive, and it does it well. It's a short and sweet movie and not a long and ambitious one, which in its own right is still marvelous. The trademark Ghibli detailed world is still intact and wonderful (the driving force behind this movie). This new director is a lot better than Goro Miyazaki, good to know we have capable new-blood in Ghibli.

now I understand the meaning behind 'the borrowers',

basically, in this world where the fittest survive, these borrowers are so small that in order for them to survive, they must feed on those weaker than them, which would only be insects.. but since they are 'small humans' they need to eat what normal humans would eat..so eating insects won't do them any good. So the best option for their race to survive is to stay with humans and basically 'borrow' their food and equipment...
