Larry still works out you know, and isn't one of the greatest heavyweights of all time for nothing. He just had his last fight 6 years ago, and won. Larry is a very good street fighter and that's pretty much what MMA is, just with gloves and some rules.

This comment should be directed at yourself. There is nothing more annoying than one as ignorant as you that would speak on a subject you know nothing of. Actually watch professional MMA fighters like Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn and look up the definition of the sport before you speak on it. It stands for Mixed Martial Arts and consists of wrestling, jiujitsu, muay thai, boxing and other disciplines. Streetfighting has no set discipline and no rules. Educate yourself.

I know what MMA stands for. I respect it as a sport, but I think it's top fighters aren't as good as boxing's top fighters. From what I've seen, they take a bunch of fighting forms, become decent (not great) at some of them, and make it their style. The best stand up MMA fighters are still very sloppy and more street fight like compared to a polished great.

Your arguments are very flawed and poorly supported. There is more to fighting than the science of punching. I will be the first to agree that boxing is the epitome of true puncing greatness but NOT fighting greatness. You put any top tier boxer in with a K-1/muay thai or MMA elite striker under and K-1, muay thai or MMA rules and I guarantee you the odds that the boxer will get submitted or finished via kicks, ground and pound or knees/elbows from the clinch are far greater than anything else.

Let me put it to you this way. You can't say MMA's top fighters are not as good as boxing's top fighters and end the note there. Boxing is ONLY one fraction of full fighting. Pro boxers are not trained to defend against an onslaught of submissions, high and low kicks, knees, elbows, power slams. Have you ever been kicked behind the knee by a full powered muay thai low kick? Boxers don't train for that. However, at least top MMA fighters train in boxing and know how to defend against boxing.

If you said MMA's elite are not as good AT BOXING as boxing's elite I would agree with you in a heartbeat. How in the hell would I ever expect Paul Pierce or even Jordan in his prime to hang with Tiger on the golf course? Apples and oranges my friend. I know for a fact that Anderson Silva who is an elite stand up fighter with GREAT boxing abilities, head movement, timing, accuracy body movement, footwork would fair better against Jones Jr. in a boxing match then Jones would against Silva in MMA.

Why? well for one, Roy has been training all his life in only one facet of combat. Boxing. He eats breathes sleeps lives and shits the sweet science. However, he doesn't train in grappling art forms nor does he possess kicking skills. Silva on the other hand has trained all his life in multiple facets of combat from muay thai to jiu jitsu to boxing and has mastered the aforementioned three. Silva would fair well against jones in boxing even if he lost. Same can't be said for Roy in MMA. Observe.
