Wow... this is the first time I've seen Cziffra struggle with piano/mess up... it's good he got back into the song's groove just as fast as he slipped up though :P
@TheExarion Yes, he looked a litttle uneasy rather than his usual nonchalant self. Such a shame there are no videos for William Tell or Blue Danube - would be great.
@TheExarion I've seen some even more outrageous performances by Cziffra from someone who posted recently. Its a collection of exerts about 8 mins long and includes things I didn't think possible. I love Cziffra like a god but I just like the smile and the bravado, not the commerciality.
And I must say... it's really really a pity that Cziffra didn't create his own "cadenza", otherwise it must be very gorgeous!! Just look his "Cziffra's crazy improv with Chopin Etude" film and imagine it......
When I was 12 years old, I visited My Mothers home in Budapest just before the 56 revolution. My Nadgy Mama (grand mother) was an adjudicator for the music school and I met and listened to Cziffra playing and he gave me 1/2 hour of tuition. This giant of a man was the most sincere Liszt interpretor of all time. Sadly he died most tragekly at an early age. Look out for his music!!!!
Lang Lang WHO? Cziffra killed everybody.......Hoffman, Lhevine, Godowsky, Clibrun, Horowitz, Kissin......EVERYBODY....with the possible exception of Rachmaninoff. The most highly underrated pianisit of the 20th Century! Only a "real" gypsy could play Liszt, Brahms, etc with such taste and soul!
Now I know who Lang Lang is trying to imitate when trying to play this and other stuff - only this guy hits all the right notes - what a great day this has been discovering Cziffra - thanks to you-tube !!!
This is the greatest shit ever, I feel like this guy is the reincarnation of a God, he's the student of Liszt's student. ANd now I'm the student of Cziffra's student, what the hell, I just have to learn it I got to the begining of this video, so far
People get it together. This is Cziffra's interpretation plus , it dose not look like Liszt from the front its Cziffra. This is a recording when he was young. I am talking about the older Cziffra not Cziffra Jr.!
Just because some idiiot NMBANANA said that this is Liszt means nothing...
i know liszt when i see him, this si him beyond any doubt and i am sorry to say to you mister airline but nmbanana is right... now just calm down dont make a scene
cziffra is the one in the begining who looks admiratively at liszt. in other words cziffra is liszt's bitch, liszt is THE PIMP you have to understand that
How old is Cziffra on this recording? And why is wearing this strange hair style? Because when I saw him first from look from somewhere under him, I thought he looks like Liszt (thanks to strange hair style), or have some mask of Liszt...when he was shown from front look I saw that he's Cziffra I know.
ok how that can be liszt when he was around the 1800's where there was no video only probably a picture of him but really thats gyorgy cziffra and he plays wonderful. if your not sure who that is dont comment because youll be the stupid one at the end, and his name is right there
Kastle's interpretation of Winter Wind is second only to Cziffra! With regard to this Rhapsody, Kastle and Cziffra both play it with a sense of humor. Cziffra should be commended for attempting to hammer the descending octaves in this live concert. He can't play the hardest notes. It may be that the EMI "snakes" convinced him to fake it in the studio when they heard him missing all those notes.
Already did!And it was awsome(Buy the way,his wersion op.25 no 6. is just breathtaking)! Just a couple days ago I got to hear a recording of him playing all Chopin etudes. For now,Cziffras is my favorite set(Richter is fantastic too).
An audio or an video recording?Because I have an audio recording of him playing this piece much better too.But to be honest, this video I uploaded is the first video file of him playing the Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 I ever saw.But you all here are right,it really isn't the best of his performances.
True.By the way, seems like you are a Cziffra fan, maybe you can give me some advice.I'm new to his playing,I've got 2 Cd's(Hungarian Rhapsodies,Chopin - Waltzes/Impromptus).So I'm not quite sure, what to search for next.Maybe you can recommend some recordings you liked?
Unfortunately I only have the one aforementioned CD of his (although a great one: several Chopin waltzes, 4 etudes, Fantasy-Impromptu, 4th Ballade, Liszt Funerailles, 10th Transcendental Etude, Gnomenreigen, 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody). Most of my exposure to the great Cziffra has come from Youtube I'm afraid. However, I do know that his Liszt, Chopin, and Schumann (especially Carnaval) are among the best out there.
His piano concertos are also great, especially Liszt's 1st concerto and the Hungarian Fantasy. All his recordings of Balakirev's Islamey are very notable as well. I hope this helps you out a bit. I'm considering purchasing a CD or two of his myself one of these days.
