  • Oh, and the solo does indeed rule, but its kinda lost its luster to me when I found out that McCready even admits to pilfering a good deal of it from Kiss' "She", who, amusingly in turn ripped off that solo from the Doors "Five to One"....although Mike plays it faster than either Frehley or Krieger, and with more feeling than Ace.

  • In regards to the compression, parts of the original CD mix may not have been as compressed, but the whole production always bothered me...the drums had no punch, and both left and right channels of guitars were a muddy mess. This mix has new problems (the overcompression + distortion), but the instruments are MUCH more distinct in this remaster. IMHO. Both are flawed mixes, the original much more severely. And at 3:40, the original was a mushy mess too...I think you need to go back and listen.

  • Holy shit, those drums are too much

  • Wow, sound is like amazing.

  • You know, I hear the difference in the bass the most. I remember the first time I heard this song... on some special about Seattle music on MTV in the Fall of 91. Just an amazing fucking song.

  • EPIC!

  • denis rodman's version is better......

  • I like how McCready's solo was brought up in the mix, however, I'm baffled as to why they nearly cut Stone's riff out of the mix. This song was written off of that riff (which is a great guitar riff). If anything, I would have made Stone's riff even more prominent. Eddie's vocals sound great.

  • McCready is the most un talked about great guitar player ever. He's a fuckin all time beast

  • I don't understand you people who are bitching. They remastered the album so it would SOUND DIFFERENTLY THAN THE ORIGINAL. The only things that are majorly different are that 1) Eddie's vocals are mixed higher (which a true PJ fan wouldn't complain about) and 2) The rhythm guitar is mixed higher. That's why is sounds "distorted." It's still Pearl Jam, so stop bitching. If you wanna hear the original, go throw your pink "Ten" CD in your old-ass stereo and shut up about it.

  • @WeezLeLad Us people that are bitching do so because unlike you and others understand whats happening. I'm a sound engineer and IT IS distorted not because of the guitars, but because of digital abusive compression, and to the detriment of quality. I studied the loudness wars formally as part of my degree in sound engineering, and it IS ruining music. I too grew up with this album and love Pearl Jam. But as long as I have ears the remasters sound awful. Listen at 3:40, its just a mushy mess.

  • So many of the remastered versions on Ten are so much better than the original. McCreedy's solo in this song still gets me going every time I hear it. I grew up with these guys and they keep getting better and better every time I see them live. A rare group of talent!

  • Sony Music Ent. can block some vids in my country because of some copyright grounds. Because i bought some cd-s from SoMuEn? You know what?

FUCK OFF!!!!!!! NO MORE CD-S FROM YOU, BECAUSE OF SOME DOWNLOADING GROUNDS !!!!!!

  • @LongviewRocks hahaha now thats something i would pay for ;)

  • The chorus is much more epic in this version. Fuck the haters.

  • Eddie's vocals are much clearer.

  • epic! epic! guitar solo!!!

  • can't believe anyone bought this it sounds just like the original, and if you think their is a big difference you just have too much time on your hands.

  • @wheelroof3 The difference is HUGE! you obviously aren't familiar with this album or production techniques. For a start the album doesn't sound like one whole like the original did. The songs are not mixed consistently; even flow sounds like it was mixed by a different engineer. But worst of all, mix aside, they overly compressed the mix, so everything is loud and distorted. To people who love this album it hurts what they've done. Thank god we still have the original.

  • @mellodge "overly compressed" ahh how the sound wars are ruining the true sounds supposed to becoming out of music.

  • @21golden007 loudness wars not sound wars my bad.

  • @LongviewRocks PJ...nah...Eddie...are u kidding....

  • it's really good.... but the original is much better in many ways

  • Ok, here's my question: Is this remix of Alive the SAME remix that was on their Greatest Hits album? On the Greatest Hits, Alive Once and Black were "remixed". Are they the same??

  • @rustedrails

No, this remix came out with the 2009 ten reissue, as have the others ive uploaded.

  • and they've slowed everything down so it draaaaaaaaaaags

  • I have to agree with the everyone that like the original better, this just doesnt have the grundge and intensity...so so dissapointed

  • i like this new version. But mostly, I just like the song. Really, a little reverb doesn't change the song much at all for me. The song is amazing, and thats all that matters to me.

  • @UnchartedV yeah same

  • I bought the Ten remaster mostly for the extra songs. The original album sounds good. I have to give to the guy that remastered it. He did a great job. Took something that sounded jammy and made it bite.

  • the original album sounds good? Are you kidding me? There's about six times the reverb needed in every track... also, they made the fatal mistake of putting reverb on the bass and kick drum, resulting in the rhythm section sounding creamy rather than powerful. The guitars didn't have any weight behind them because of the reverb...

the remaster is brilliant. The guitars are heavier, there is a rhythm section and the drums are much clearer

  • The remaster totally butchered the original sound of the album, which was just good. The guitar are heavier because they sound louder and the voice is pushed far behind in the mixing. Some stereo effects were removed with no apparent reason. Overall, the music sounds rawer and disjointed. There's an unpleasant "closed" feel to it, it almost sounds like a demo tape. Many people complain about the "overproduced" sound of the original, but I think it fitted a hundred times better than this new one.

  • dude, seriously though epic guitar solo. Shit is crazy
