Are you using windows Vista? I was, and I had a problem with crashing too. I fixed it by going into the program's compatibility. I told it to run in Windows 95 compatibility, and it runs like a charm. The only difference is that it loads a little slower, so you'll notice a small lag when you hit R instead of an instant respawn.

Course, that doesn't change having to change controls every time you play.

Look at my "I Want To Be The Guy" Videos. I did this entire part without dying once. I had a few deaths on the wall jump after he cut his video. Then in my next movie I did the spike wall after this completely without dying as well. =D

Hey here's a tip for you since you were having trouble with the bullet bill part:

If you hold the jump button after landing on them, you'll bounce much higher and can double jump over the spikes easier. Hope that helps :)

I tried playing the game... but to me, it just wasn't that fun... I mean, I would of never guessed that you had to go through that wall at the beginning... As someone once said about Megaman X6, there's cheap hard, and there's fun hard... but this isn't the fun hard.
