Some of you never heard of Invention of tradition. This is always going on. First, Islambol is a made up name that sounds like Istanbul. Second, Istanbul is already a Greek name meaning "to the city".

Third, Ottomans never enforced the name "Istanbul". The city was named Istanbul and Constantinople for centuries.Ottomans never ever attempt to change city's name to Istanbul. Even Mehmed 2, who captured the city, did his best to preserve city's Greek Heritage.
