kenickie were fantastic and remain so .lauren has so much talent not just in performing but presenting on tv and bein a DJ on 6music and writing fuckin bestselllers.if you like kenickie check my channel.damn you kenickie haters and big up da fans ......devilskitchen08
@kingsizeblueslim wth is that supposed to mean? How was I "chat" shitting on youtube? I thought the band had a lot of potential and was hoping they would have been bigger and made it in both the UK and US more. How is that badmouthing them?
I remember hearing kenickie on a live 'in concert' type of thing on radio 1 - years ago. It absoloutely blew me away!! The power and energy - amazing and ALL the girls singing backing and stuff.
This footage, whilst clearly NOT their best oerformance, is amazing archive stuff as there is so little of this fantastic bands material about. LL was/is a damn good songwriter and is wasted in Broadcasting IMO....Oh well
Jesus, I'm not suprised the rest of the band failed in any post band project. The guitars are damn ameuter and farty. It's straight from an angsty indiekid's bedroom. Lauren was clearly carrying the band. Still it's that rawness and basicness that gives this era its sound and edge, very much like grungey sounding girl bands like Hole or L7. I did and still love Kenickie. This song is excellent, the sombre yet storytelling build up into something trying to sum up a million people's feelings..
Not sure why Lauren seemed gloomy that day, it looked packed. Always good to see them playing live. So fresh at that point in time - girl-rock with Les Pauls and Flying Vs ;-) .
No it shouldn't it's not a great song. Great songs have a life in spite of the songwriter. They are like money waiting to be spent, great bands become great because of the songs hence cover versions. Once a band become fused with a great song they own it even if they didn't write it . A case in point: 'Aerosmith' with 'don't want to miss a thing' they didn't write it.
kenickie split on oct 21st at londons astoria .they really didnt want to know no more waz there .sad to c it end but waz glad for the memories.those were the days.marie waz my fave
Is it just me or does Laverne look really down through this? Where's the banter and the silly giggles with the other girls? Still, it is AMAZING to see them at their best, thanks for putting this up!
I see your point, though look at LL's eyebrows/facial expressions about 02:20 mins. To me, this shows she's doing the same stuff as she would do in a small club (King Tut's?), or she know's she's on TV? Otherwise, why do it. Agree that this is classic archive.
fantastic was there at the time kenickie helped me through a lot of shit in the late 90s they were lovely girls when i met them thanks 4 the memories i still love this band we need them back
The way she changes the lyrics slightly breaks my heart seen as they split not long after this. Best band EVER (and I'd never seen this before, so thanks for posting it.x)
Lauren Laverne sacrificed a degree in Medieval Studies for this!

How 'grubby' does Lauren look! Talk about TV makeovers.

It would've been so nice if the guitarist could tune her guitar, ok not "so nice" but a slight improvement.
davedagreat69 1 year ago
@davedagreat69 but then it wouldn't match the out of tune vocals..

I've loved the single for years, but boy is that a flat performance. They really don't look like they want to be there.

Lauren is 100 times sexier now she's in her 30s and presenting quite intellectual TV shows. Married though, drat!

Lauren Laverne is fit, but she really needs to cheer up a bit here. Makes it sound like a bit of a dirge........

Have... have you actually listened to the lyrics at all? It's not exactly a cheery tune.

Not a great live performance but this is a GREAT song. This should have been a famous "Don't Look Back in Anger" kind of anthem.

Not 1998. By 1998 Johnny X had become Pete X and moved up front to assume lead guitar duties from Marie.

wasnt 1998...it was 1997! Played after fountains of wayne on the day that suede headlined.

Yeah, and Feeder played that stage the same day after Radish opened it.

Nope. Johnny X still on drums means this was Summer of 1997, they split up in October 1998.
