So, her skills are not high enough to deserve the minimum wage; the employer will lose money on her because she will not be very productive for the amount of money she is being paid. The housewife will thus not receive the job. However, if there was no minimum wage, she would get the job and simply receive a wage that is more fitting for her skill level.

@adamish1134 Offers no alternative? An agreement between worker and employer maybe? In the UK they brought in the minimum wage in 1998. It surprised people by not having any obvious negative effects to begin with. The truth was there was another variable. We had unprecedented MASSIVE immigration that same year for 10 years to do minimum wage jobs. The UK economy adapted to the law by recruiting the proactive workers from abroad who were the only ones worth it.

Unions represent the interests of workers e.g. you and I. Friedman naively trusts market forces to do what is right, but market forces would have the military industrial complex send young men to war. It would entice pharmaceutical companies to invest more in curing male baldness than curing life threatening diseases in a profit chasing blindness that robs society of the opportunity to make ethical decisions. He even rants about how an ethical world isn't possible in another video (paraphrasing)

The minimum wage laws have prevented the employer from hiring people at the bottom and then when someone retires, they hire someone else at the union dictated wage, which is fairly high, and they get paid significant dollars for the first few months when they know how to do very little. It would be much better if we could keep a few people doing low skill tasks and over time they would learn the business and be ready to move up when someone retires.

The employer wishes to pay as little as possible, the worker would like a living wage. Capitalism both stipulates and guarantees that a worker should be paid less than the value of their work (this is necessary for the company to turn a profit) but you're advocating that this discrepancy be made even larger and that's something no worker would share a belief in

Today's implementation of govt strips away your rights and freedoms, but not all implementations, historically or conceptually. Friedman based all of his economic ideas on something which only ever existed in theory: the free market. There never has, never was, any such thing as a free market.
