Tech TV was a cable network that was probably ahead of its time. It is kind of sad that most of the programs from the original Tech TV are no longer in production. X-Play is the only major TV show from the original Tech TV that still remains on G4.

While its sad at this whole G4 TechTv merger happened, I think it's ultimately a good thing that it happened. Since they got rid of TSS I've watched G4 tv maybe 3-4 times, but between Rev3 and TWiT, I get my fix of Leo, Kevin, Patrick, Sarah, and Alex, plus a whole bunch of people I have never really seen on TechTV(no Dan or Yoshi :(). Plus Leo said he wants to make a show in the new TWiT studio that's similar to The Screensavers.

I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for these guys

@nightmarecivic Incase you didn't know, they both host podcasts regularly. Patrick is on the Revision3(along with Kevin Rose and a few others) network, and Leo runs the TWiT network(Sarah Lane and a few others from Techtv are hosts). I think between the 2 networks, you pretty much get the same quality of shows as there was on TechTV, plus TWiT is moving to a new bigger studio and Leo was saying how he wants to make a show thats like how TSS used to be

I had stopped to wonder what happened to the channel, and originally had thought that G4 did buy TechTv. But when I had seen that Leo had a Posterous page, I knew then that something wasn't right! Can't blame Comcast although the company is all about stockholder percentage, however, the owner of TechTv gets the blame. Remember though, they all get about six months advance notice, so they all knew what was going to go down. It was one of the few "tech" shows that was actually "good."

It's Paul Allen's fault as well. He sold TechTV at a time when TechTV was finally starting to grow and starting to show some real success after years of struggling. My theory was that Comcast was afraid for G4 getting beat out by a competing network and basically killed it in what appeared to be an innocent buyout before the layoffs and the closure of the studios. I think if Comcast sincerely was interested in TechTV then they would have made it so TechTV became only a sister network of G4.

This was one of my fav shows back when I started watching TechTV 8 years ago. They had some great programming- Screen Savers, Call for Help, Unscrewed...hell, they even had decent anime on there. When the merger was announced, I thought it might bring some good, but in the coming times, everything started to go downhill into the cesspool of regurgitated garbage that they show every day now. TechTV at least had fresh content just about EVERY DAY. Comcast ruined it, and it disgusts me.

I watched The Screen Savers every night on (now defunct) TechTV. Fresh Gear and TechLIve were also great. Comcast did the opposite of what they should have done: keep TechTV and merge SOME of G4 with it. Xplay is the only thing on there that gets an occasional glance from me.

We got the best of both worlds Leo went on to create the TWIT network and I got AOTS + Olivia = win win. I do miss the screen savers and I think they should have at least one reunion show on the old set in fact the screansaver could lead into ATOS and complement it quite well but that's never going to happen after all the shit that went down after the merger.
