Movie theater short film -- Pool store owners "goosed" then sued

I'd like to know what sort of fall would lead to $750,000 in damages? If a drunk driver drove in to my car, I would sue him/her for loss of income, hospital bills, and the wrecked car. I doubt very much that it would come close to $750,000. So, why should a fall cost someone that much.
