Ugh, he should have stopped and thought after the 50/50. To me Vilnius just doesn't sound Georgian. It's a 50/50 change of getting it right and your money doubles. Especially when you factor in that if you're right you'll not only double your money but get another question you might have a shot at knowing which would quadruple your money.
All that besides, I'm pretty surprised he didn't have a Geography nut on his phone-a-friend.
Country capitals are the easiest targets. Seriously, all you have to do is memorize them. It's better than random questions about unpopular TV shows. Same goes for the periodic table of the elements and the U.S. presidents.
I really liked the first celebrity edition but after that it all seemed to suck. If I didn't know better there were more celebrities on than there were regular people.
Darn, every answer on that $250,000 I know which capital they belong to which country. And that is without looking at Google. I know because of general knowledge.
@TheMattTrivium Yeah, I know. But I can also be safe in the knowledge that I used to play Championship Manager a lot and therefore know where some places are. You can choose not to believe that, if you wish. I couldn't give a flying fuck.
When the question came up, I thought T'Bilisi right away from Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell game. I knew that Sofia is Bulgaria and Vilnius is Lithuania and I knew Tallinn is not in Georgia. It's more west of Georgia.
On the feminist slogan question, I haven't heard it that way, I've heard "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle." Also...is that Lance Bass still in the audience? Lol Wouldn't he have left after he was done?
It has nothing to do with Americans not studying, it's not something that's TAUGHT in the average American high school. It didn't even come up in my AP World History class. Having spent the last two years of my high school career taking college classes (AP, IB and local universities), I never learned that, so even a hard-working average American kid wouldn't know unless they learned it on their own. Now, you can blame that on the education system, but it's certainly not the fault the student.
@oringent Are you referring to my comment or the question? My point was that Najo161 said the question would be "easy for Europeans" but Americans wouldn't know it BECAUSE "they don't study." The average American not knowing such a piece of trivia is not at all related to Americans being lazy or CHOOSING not to study in school. You can read the textbook cover to cover but if the information's not in there, the student's inability to know such info has nothing to do with them "not studying."
If I was a rich, successful millionaire, or if I was Ray Ramono in this situation, I would have said "I'm going to guess an answer and if I'm wrong, I'll make up the $93,000 I lost out of my own pocket".
That would not only grab cheers and admiration from the audience, but would be good for everyone involved.
The more people have money the less they want to loose it...just take a look at Donald Trump, his own life depends on building towers, casinos, selling appeasements...and i know what you r thinking: if we were him, we would have stopped building and enjoyed life with the money we got....
Not exactly. I am the student of English Philology at one of the best departments in my country and we are obliged to know both all the American presidents, U.S. states and their capitals, as well... Of course, you have numerous educated people in U.S.- this can be widely observed even in my school so I might overgeneralize a little, sorry...
they should make a movie with ray & mr bean lol that would be so cool haha then in the movie they meet jakie chan & chris taka lmao best movie eva but it will never happen
In the celebrity editions they are allowed to cheat up to the $32,000 level, even if they missed a question prior to reaching that level they would leave with 32K for their charity.
it's funny how trivial knowledge depends somewhat on where you live. I live in Finland/Europe and would have known every one of those captial cities and their countries. (visited some actually). With some of those other questions I had no idea.
Celebrity Millionaire (USA) is so weird, the audience claps before they even find out if an answer is right or wrong, Celebrity Millionaire (UK) is better cos the audience waits for the answer to turn green before they clap.
Ray should of just said both answers B and C out loud at the end and pretended to think, and the audience would have clapped at one of them and then he could of said which ever answer he heard the most claps for and he would of got the question right.
It's fucking Tbilisi. I love Ray but I'm surprised ppl in America dont know shit about geography. I was born in USSR but i know any capital of any fucking country.
ashoka10 is right. I used to learn capitals all the time. It was just fun and you gain knowledge at the same time.
rdfman89, your reasoning would mean that anyone with knowledge is a fag. I have no problem with gay people but I'd rather offer my own logic which goes along the lines of:
i can answer 250 grant question
