I've recently started playing bass but i switched from a guitar and after watching some your videos, i've been wondering. When you learn the song, do you learn the tabs for it or do you learn to play it by ear?
alice in chains always play in e flat or drop d flat. you seen to be playing in standard d. you're not wrong cos you're still playing the same notes just seemed a little weird to me
when i play this song I just drop everything half a step and it plays fine.. your playing lower on the neck and there are a few open notes which just makes it easier for me (i have bad carpel tunnel)
@CTHARDCORE606 i think its tuned flat EbAbDbGb..... but in this video he is tuned standard. because his notes are different from the way the song is actually played.
@CTHARDCORE606 Half a step down Alice tuning is always half a step down except on maybe two songs are drop D but this one I know for sure is half a step. Check my brain and something else are the two that are Drop D.
If I was wearing a hat I'd have to take it off to you. This is far superior (and more accurate) than the tab I was trying to learn this from. Pretty much a perfect video to play to and you're even performing it on my dream bass. Good work!
Remiiiiiii....I don't know why everyone asks for TABS, your cover could not be more perfect and easy to pick out just by listening and watching. What a great cover! Do you learn all your stuff, like TOOL, and all that by ear too?
hey send me these tabs. the other websites are close but not perfect. urs are amazing. i tried writing them down from ur vid. but if you could send them that would be amazing
@creation94 You should really try listening to the song and playing by ear, or going and buying sheet music books for the band/album you are learning, because personally I think tabs are a bad habit, but once in a while if I can't figure out a note or two I look it up.
hey can you by any chance tell me where you got your tabs from or something and amazing tone quality timing and everything 5 stars and i love the bass nice body and color but please can you link me the tabs
About the pick question..... From what I've heard it comes down to comfort and sound.
If you take a look at Remiiii's thumb (left hand) and how it comes over the top of the bass... this is, in most cases, a dead give-away that he's a converted lead guitarist or also plays the electric/acoustic guitar.
My wife on the other hand only plays the bass and she never uses the thumb on her left hand, it always stays behind the neck.
Hmmm... My wife is also 100% bass player for over 20 years, I bet it has to do with the size of the neck vs. the size of your hands.
Actually I can't say she's 100% bass player since she also plays the piano, every brass and every woodwind (except for double reeds)... She has her masters in music ed, so she had to learn to play all instruments before she could teach them.
Remiii, I thought you had a video in your profile of you playing the guitar?
i dont play any instuments but it seems like it'd be harder to play something slow like this rather than something fast, because of the timing. But the bass is the best part about this song, well the song in a whole is amazing, but you catch my drift ;D
wow you are really good. i have been trying to learn this song for quite a while but for some reason i cant get it. do you think you could post a video on how to play it or send me the tabs?
Using a pick requires some skill. So I don't down pick players. I've been using fingers for three years. Using a pick is harder than using my 3 fingers lol.
You people who say "real bass players" play with just their fingers are idiots. Watch many bassists of amazing bands and they use picks. It's to achieve a more tenor/sharp sound, as opposed to using fingers, which give the thumpy, low sounds. You can also get much better timing from a pick, and lets see you play metalcore or something in full speed with your fingers. Stop being a youtube troll and if you're suuuuuch a good bassist, post some of your own vids, you posers.
It's not right to generalize the bass community by saying one is better than the other. There is an appropriate use for each technique. In this case, a pick is the superior technique. He is just performing it with the original technique, as Mike Inez did. Whoever says "pickz rulz" or "fingerz r Bettr" are fags.
Well it all depends on the individual bassist, It is better for anyone listening if I play with my fingers, as I suck with a pick, but someone might sound phenominal the other way around, it all depends on which fundimental style the given bassist has chosen to develop.

I find this statement to be inaccurate. I am a 100% bass player of 10 years, and in easy-playing situations, my thumb rests over the neck as well.
