  • sublime

  • Siggi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

  • murmurios da floresta, pura musica descritiva, mostrando a genialidade do compositor.

  • I prefer the Furtwängler Scala cycle of 1950, although some singers are awful (Loge, f. i.), but what a pity that he couldn't complete the cycle begun in 1954 with "Die Walküre"

  • Wagner was the greatest composer of the 19th century!!!

  • You forget Beethoven and Tchaikovsky

  • and Bruckner!

  • and Schuman and Mendelssohn.

  • and Brahms, and Britten, oh, and Britney! :P

  • yeah, Tchaikovsky and Homer Simpson :P

  • ever

  • ridiculous kind of thinking. )

  • and he cuts it off right before the horn call...........meanie

  • Please up the next continuing. I really want to listen famous horn solo.

  • where is siegfried part three??? get some co-ordination in here. all acts' one after the other in proper order!

  • Like Solti but Boulez is magnificent

  • Boulez was the first conductor to get through the entire Ring Cycle in five minutes. Actually here as nearly everywhere else Boulez gets the orchestra to make the fast tempi work because their playing is so dead-on precise. This Wagner is lighter on its feet than we've ever heard it. Not necessarily a bad thing. And let's not forget the Chereau production is absolutely magnificent.

  • 5 minutes? 12 hours of opera in 5 minutes?

  • I think etucker82 means that Boulez's Ring is an hour shorter than Barenboim's and Karajan's Ring.

  • Not true:

Richard Strauss took his Wagner at a very quick clip and was a perpetual presence at Beyreuth.

Yes Boulez takes some things faster than Solti, much mcuh faster than Levine and Bernstein, but there are other things he takes at slightly slower tempi.

It's his personal taste at work. I like it but would not do it that way. (I've conducted Tannhauser and Dutchman.)

  • wow cool! which one did u like conducting better? I would kill to conduct tannhauser.

  • Hi, Just got this...Yup it has been one of the highlights of my carrer so far...

    We did the Paris Version.

My Venus and Elizabeth was excellent, my Tannhauser had a great natural voice but had serious technical problems...

The orch was good, the chorus not so good....

Best part of the whole thing is the final abrs when the entire orchestra is sawing away at the Pilgrim's chours while the cast sings the big tune with the trombones.

    Brilliant stuff.

  • Barenboim produced the only good Ring you'll ever find.

  • I do not agree: you should try Furtwängler's Ring at least (La Scala, 1950, poor sound quality) if you think that Barenboim's Ring is the only one.

  • But if the sound quality is poor, then won't it be hard to discern the musicality of the recording?

  • Please try the Furtwangler Ring cycle recorded at Rome (RAI, 1953) digitally remastered very well by Gebhardt. It's not without reason that Furtwangler has been considered by many the greatest conductor of Wagner's music by many.

  • I think that "Uncle Wolfie" was quite impressed with Furtwängler .
