I can relate to this song/commercial. I'm in my fourth year of my knee injuy. Last year I've been working out five times and went for a jog twice... After relapse, recover.
-1 year ago I begun beeing a goalkeeper, I've been told I'm a great talent and can go pro if I "want" to. I am allready the #1 for the best team in the "state".. Then the injury came.. The second I recover, I will, and I shall workout EVERY day and become pro!
we have all been there before and that pain is the reason we play the games we play to give that pain a big FUCK YOU with a W for yourself and your team
Nice concept, but hey... a Nine Inch Nails cover about heroin addiction is highly inappropriate in this context. Forget it, it's Nike anyway, how many percent of their buyers in the world would know NIN?
I doubt very much that this commercial is genuine. This looks like a commercial made by nike which someone slapped johnny cash' version of hurt over it.
Either that, or it's just the shittiest commercial I've ever seen.
no it's real! and was votted as one of the best commercials in the deccade, so please do us al a favour and do go into advertising, cause you have no taste or any other commercial talents
Then don't think of it as advertisement for Nike.
Think of it as an expression of the sacrifice and dedication of the athletes.
I love this clip, but never think of it as "Nike". I think of it as "Hurt", and it's the reason it's the only non-pump up song on my MP3 when I work out.
@andalore1989 I agree with you although you can argue that this song represents the pain athletes all around the world go through in order to accomplish their goals. I'm not a fan of huge profit-interested corporations but this was a very well made ad regardless of their means.
I hate how everyone freaks out on NIke its a great commercial who the fuck cares if they used a song sung by Johnny Cash its better than the religious shit they use it for
Because they used one of the most emotional songs ever created by a dying man and as a musician I find it insulting that such a great character has had his work advertised for such a horrible cause.
i dont know about you guys but its not really about the pain they have physically but inside when they lose and the hope is gone.........especially in those hurdles
I find this commercial very inappropiate combined with this song. Johnny Cash sings about his disease that ate him from the inside. That is a whole other category of pain then athletes will ever feel during their sport...
I see where you're coming from but not true at all, for most athletes their sport is absolutely everything to them, that's why lots of them spiral into depression and mental illness when their career is over (for example paul gascoigne) That moment where everythin you've always worked for and all you've ever dreamed of suddenly falls apart is crushing.
However the mood is wrong because the 'hurt' feeling is reflecting on such pain over time, whereas the athletes feeling is a sudden overwhelming feeling.
Hearing peoples' comments it's interesting how the song fits perfectly into nike's exploitations of people in the third world. And the immensely devastating centuries of colonialism and slavery that still has a huge effect and allows them to do so. The devastation caused by wrecking a whole continent.
Agreed!!!! Using this beautiful song that tells TWO amazing stories about two artists (trent and later cash) in a COMMERCIAL for corporate gain is a bunch of CRAP! How dare they...eat dirt Nike.
Crap is what you are saying . you talk about amazing stories then look at bernard lagat here who told his mom before she died that he would win gold for her at Beijing but failed or you can also look at Ronaldo of Portugal who lost the euro cup Greece in an upset. And Lebron james, barely old enough to drink and he is expected to take a team to the finals. Oh, and nike was named one of the most ethical corporations.
pleas all of you guys posting about nike saying the third world needs help nike just goes there knowing they can get people to work for cheap and the parents are the ones giving the kids away for nothing you cant blame them i know we would all do the same becuase we give away nothing and get people who will work for us
nike is just an evil company as every single other.
and i thing those people who have ideas for commercial should be respected for their pieces of art and not the company they work for, because i thing creating something like this,no matter if its purpose is to animate people to buy sommething or not,it´s still art.
hey NIKE heres an idea, why dont you use the same song but show clips of the millions of third world children you exploit in order to cut your production costs down, Fucking hell spawn exploiting the poor and needy to line their own pockets with gold
ALL HAIL THE HEROS NIKE!!!!!! Those angels thy're saving their lives WOW. You haven't got a fucking clue, you live in your developed world, and say thank you to Nike. Yeah they give them jobs. They EXPLOIT them. they pay them about 1/50th of what an american would earn, and work them nearly to death. I cant believe how anyone could stand up for such suffering and evil.
yes BUT THEY DONT LIVE IN AMERICA DO THEY!!!!! they live in a country where human rights mean fuck all , and without the money they would die , not standing up for them u tit, thinking about the kid , work hard hours , or starve to death?? ignorant shite
Cover of the greatest song ever, this version is not to be blamed but praised, especially as it could not be better. Great song, great pictures, it would nearly convince me to buy Nike...!! But no.
yes and they lined his pockets for it and so he agreed... think about that guys before you start calling out for them desecrating the infallible hero.
They also will have needed the consent of johnny cash's estate, bougth with another shiny contract that could feed 600 Malaysian families for 5 years.
Someone deserves to die for this. fuck Nike! this is just sickening. You know what they should show instead all the people and especially children they exploit overseas.
this is thoughtless toss. that they evoke all these feelings of frustration and then leave you hanging at the end shows them as corporate monkeys with little connection to the real world of sport, amateur or professional.
No offenseyou guys and I do respect Jonny cash, But this is a good advert and ido hate nike but this music goes with the image and it's well put together.
I love Johnny Cash's music, and this rendition of Hurt is no exception. I just can't believe that this song, especially Cash's version, which captures the voice of a living legend facing death, to be used as a joke in a Nike ad. It just makes me sick.
no snipfer he wasn't objecting to the cover by johnny cash. He was objecting to trent reznor allowing a song written by him to be used in a nike ad (permission is needed from the writer and performer {or in JC's case their estate}) still he was paid handsomely enough I suppose.
Permission is not needed to cover a song but the royalties it earns go to the original writer (at least most of them do, not sure if the coverer gets a small percentage)
