I am an avid fan of shmups... but alas it's a dying genre in this day in age. I'm still keen as a fan but I'll have to agree that with the exception of a few outstanding titles like Ikaruga, nothing new has really been brought to the table. Gradius V is also a bitch to finish.
Except it doesn't actually lock-on, which is IMO biggest fuckup in Raiden 3. In R2 you could attach it to bigger enemy and blast smaller ones at the same time just by moving in their general direction. In R3 it just doesn't work.
I had a Raiden/Raiden II compilation once for my PS1 but I lost it somehow. I also think that the Purple Beam is the same as the Green Beam in Raiden III. Oh, and dude who did the review, get your damn nose out of how I buy my games, okay? Your Communist ass is not going to fucking tell ME how I get my games and if your little video game company friends want to combat piracy, then they should a. get more jobs for people and b. actually LISTEN to the customer demands instead of themselves!
Customer demand in the video game world is sent via purchasing power. People who pirate games are detrimental to the process. The more people pirate, the less *quality* emulated games *real* retro gamers receive.
Anyone who pirates is spoiling it for the rest of us. If you're happy with crappy ROMs with no sound or play quality, keep it to yourself. The rest of us enjoy playing games that are actually vetted and approved by developers. kthxbye.
What about games that have little chance of being ported... Like Kiwi Kraze or Mighty Final Fight, SunMan (an unreleased game, or *gulp* Action 52? Kiwi craze sells on e-bay for like $10, but MFF will run you around $35, for a nes cart and that isn't counted as a sale eithor to the companies. Plus emulateing NES is pretty exact nowa days. I own I beleive 113 carts, but games like MFF, ect. I don't feel I should buy used if it doesn't help the publisher at all. What is your stance on that?
@notjustanotherface the developers don't have the ability to listen to customer demand, the publisher tells the developers what to do. if you wna the publisher to listen then you either do or don't buy the game.
if you pirate the game then they don't see that as a sale and caount your opinion as void.
check out the VC on your wii. There are games like R-Type, R-Type III, Gate of Thunder, Bio Hazard Battle, Blazing Lasers, Soldier Blade and in january there will be a game called Blast Works. don't know how good each one of those are, but I just thought I would name off some similar games for you.
Great review, I really like shmups so this game wasnt a disappointment. Could you possibly review Gradius V sometime? that game is one of the best modern shmups and another series revival ( most of it was made by treasure )
Raiden III was published by Taito in Japan in 2005. Of course, at the end of a Raiden game, you receive 1,000,000 points. But not Raiden III, you'll see an anime ending.
Awesome review. Just go ta request for ya, could you do a review of Gradius V? I honestly think it was a great take on an old franchise in (a previously) "next-gen" system.
cool, but I played some harder shooters out there; there was an arcade *before it was shut down* that had so many import rail shooters lol like this and strikers 1945 lol
difference between the beams? probably effectiveness against land or air enemys. Raiden is awesome loved it on the genesis. solid reviewing as always.
i got this yesterday for 4 bucks at gamestop very worth it. and the difference between the beams is i think one is more bend-able and can whip

Thanks for the review on this. It's good to hear someone do a review show without saying the word "Halo" or "Grand Theft Auto". Kudos!
