Do you think the insurance companies will want the government to protect them when people no longer need insurance because they don't own their cars ... or actually drive them? The mere prospect fills me with glee.
Definitely a clever way of trying to kick-start this new idea on how transportation should work ... I hope the heterogeneity of cars currently out there is manageable, so people won't feel like they're selling themselves short by using lower quality cars than they could be using, or renting out their cars to strangers.
I feel the next step is to automate cars, to bring down accident rates and give people some assurance that letting others use their car won't lead to them being wrecked.
But most people want their own car.
