    Search your surroundings. There has to be a forrest or some underbrush in your area or near it; you'll find variety of trees over there.

  • Wow, I live in Washington state and I'm surprised/excited to hear vine maple makes good bow wood. That stuff grows like a weed up here, that and hazel nut. I guess i'll be attempting some bow making here pretty soon.

  • @thehondaguy100 I can't imagine cottonwood working very well. It usually rots before it dries out.

  • hey im from south carolina and the only hickory trees we have are is where we hunt out of town and really the only trees we really have is white oak, red oak, and water oak. which one of those is probably the best wood and do i need a sapling or a fully grown tree im thinking a sappling would be better. love your videos by the way

  • @sasukex101 Willow won't work and pine is not a reliable choice for bows, I don't know about the others though.

  • @helodude997 I'd cut a small tree, split it in half, then leave it for 3 to weeks before working on it.

  • @ductapevideos - You are close to England (across the channel) but IDK if you have Yew. If you have yew I would use that. I heard yew grows in continental Europe but idk. Yew is supposed to be one of the best bow wood's in the world. It doesn't grow in eastern US.

  • Do you know of any good trees in Arkansas/Oklahoma area? I have a lot of cedar that is about right for the size of a bow, i know that it is not good for making bows. Also we have some oak but the trees are about 60 years old and as big as can be.

  • i dont know what you know about southern ontario woods but what would you suggest for that i have a bow crudly made already from mainitoba maple but its wearing out pretty fast probably didint let it dry long enough but now im making one out of cedar i heard it was good but not 100% sure if itl work alright i also have some willow around if thats good again not that sure any idea of what would work well?

I hav been out today cutting two peaces of English Ash, one a little worse than th other which i will use as my first practice peace, the other is beautifully straight & knotless which hopefully will make a good bow?
