  • who thinks the hot rod sounds to trebly and in your face? I can't get a nice mellow tone on the clean channel.. in the studio the sounds are also very high mostly... should I replace my tubes? I've got my amp for 4 years now or something...

  • that smell!! ;)

  • wich song do you play in 2:01??

  • @DulceDebora sounds like Bad Moon Rising

  • would this amp sound good with a gibby les paul?

  • @RustySpoonTheBand hes playing a les paul

  • I love Fender amps but what i dont like is 2 diff Channels with only one EQ on one of their best amps. The Fender Super Sonic 22 solved that issue real fast.

  • Sounds sweet!! Especially with a humbucker guitar.

  • Hi - do you remember what speaker this amp had in it?

  • the old drive channels sound better than the new ones. but omega amps would make this amp sound incredible

  • Nice demo..

  • @jabselium People always seem to think this but watts done change due to it being tube or ss. You perceive tube amps to be louder due to the added harmonics.

A 40 watt valve amp will be better to mic up at a gig over a solid state still.

  • is this the 112 enclosure? or is it just the deluxe III? and which one is bigger?

  • is this amp very loud ?

  • @fredx93 hell yeah it is

  • hey, great demo! i was wondering if you could tell me what mic you are using to mic up the amp? cheers

  • You gotta be from New Orleans! :)) Nice amp!

  • These are great amps. I own 2.

The speakers and the tubes you use do make a difference. The amp has a lot of up front pre-amp gain which lots of folks try to tame by using a 12AY7 or a 5751 in V1. An NOS GE 5751 in V3 also helps tame the gain and add clarity. Good power tubes definitely make a difference.

Celestion VIntage 30 speakers tame the bass but completely kill the beautiful chimey clean channel these amps are loved for. A greenback sound much better.

    Nice vid. Keep rockin!

  • is it loud enough for a gig, and also it seems kinda small compared to my 120 watt line 6. is it small?

  • Damn-fine playing for someone who's only been doing it for a year and a half. You have good string-control. Not sloppy like so-many players I've seen who've been at it for 20 years. Remember, the most important thing you need to know about playing in a band is DYNAMICS (I know guys who've been playing for 30 years who haven't learned that).

This amp looks brand-new. I have an older, US-made one from '97 that I bought used. They sound great if you upgrade to Czech-made tubes. Great with pedals.

  • he is speaking down a well

  • I have the same amp.. I really don't like it, no offense to any fans of them. Not enough gain for me. I bought it some 10 ought years ago because I wanted a "quality tube amp" that wouldn't break the bank. I suppose it fit that description.

I have to use a Boss Metal Zone through it to get the edge that I want.

IIt's fine for blues, or classic rock with just the amp, and a Tube Screamer. I'm more of an 80's metal fan, late 70's too. I'm going to trade for a 6505+.

    Great demo vid!

  • gee you are a young genius. heard your guitar playing and your amazing.

  • I've got one of these. Great clarity, balance, reverb, and overall tone. The only thing that sucks is the overdrive. It sounds like a crappy distortion pedal. Fender is the best at clean tones, but lacking in the overdrive department!

  • Haha "Call Me the Breeze" -- I wish I had a nickel for every time I had to open a set with that - usually to a room full of drunks who couldn't have cared less. Great job - you sound excellent for the length of time you've been playing. All you need now is 10 years kicking around lowlife bars and you'll be all set to live the rock and roll dream. ;-)

  • skynyrd fan? :D

  • overdrive sounds a little fuzzy

  • @dacorner8 which is pretty fucking badass. Black Keys style.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey - great job! You are doing great for the length of time you have been playing!!! Nice review - I play a Les Paul and a Music Man - both humbuckers - so I appreciated the fact you demoed with the Les Paul. Nice Skynyrd Chops!! Stick with it. Visit my channel if you get a chance.

  • which is the difference between hot rod deluxe and hot rot deville??

  • @JazzNbossa - about 20 watts. the deville is the same amp with a couple more power tubes. maybe a different speaker configuration too. deluxe = 40 watts deville = 60 watts.

  • @JazzNbossa More headroom and 2X12 or 4X10 unlike the 1X12 Hot Rod Deluxe.

  • Spot the budget cable... :/

  • @betyoucantreadthis haha i use fulltone cables now, they sound great

  • @guns1rose

ever tried the fender california cables? really good too

  • @guns1rose wow, ten months ago... yea ive been playing for about 8 years and i think planet waves cables are great, especially through a valve amp (never really bothered with solid state), my ears are fucked now anyway lol... btw, i know a few people took my comment as a derogatory statement but i didnt mean any offence, just trying to invoke a bit of laughter... :P keep on rockin' x

  • @betyoucantreadthis Ive had people who make cable for a living tell me they are all the same. And if you understand how electricity works that would make sense. Its simply a conduit transfering electicity from one end to another. The only thing a monster cable or a fulltone cable can add is shielding or extra protection, which is probably not worth 10 dollars a foot or whatever they charge .

  • @betyoucantreadthis Spot the pretentious wanker-nerd. Ignore that piece of shit kid, sweet job on the vid. And use whatever cables you like!

  • @LiamoMacDeadly ahhhhhh... spot the boring fart who doesnt have any crack... i bet youre really boring... love ya x

  • @betyoucantreadthis It's craic mate. Love you too x

  • too much bass results opacity, when overdrive is on

  • oh man, at 5:20 and on what are you playing, i havent herd that in soooo long

  • Wow you are extremely good for a year and a half

  • ooh that smell! cancha smell that smell!!!

  • good review, thanks. i'm trying to decide on this amp or the smaller blues jr. for my next amp.

  • Comment removed

  • @stratas2 i'm in the same boat right now, except it'll be my first electric amp, i just bought my first electric guitar, a reverend, and the first time i played it in the shop it was on a blues junior, but i'm kinda interested in the upgrade, pending the difference it makes, i've never actually played on the hot rod

  • How heavy is this amp? I like this amp, but I would like an amp that's not too heavy.

  • Hey bro, important question! Does the amp work good with multi-pedals? If your'e not sure, can you find out about it?

  • i to have les paul and a hot road delux 40 w, the sound is fantastic, i play all music with it. but it is to loud to have in a bedrom.

  • its really bright cause i have the bright switch on...really u think? cause i thought it would go dark if i press the bright button lol

  • @TheNicoscerri hahaha or i couldve said its really bright because i have the treble knob turned up.... what should have i said?

  • @guns1rose i dunno i was only picking up on the funny thing u said lol. how do u think it plays this amp? with tv joes classics? and an overdrive pedal?

  • @TheNicoscerri with a decent overdrive pedal, this amp could sound even better!

  • @guns1rose Just add a Tube Screamer or a Boss OD3 and your set.

  • i hate your voice.

  • @hilks58 i hate you

  • lol the voice sounds like its talking from heaven

  • nice intro very tomy iomi

  • hey dude! what equiptment did you use to record this amp?

  • the amp wasnt really designed for that kind of music- just blues.

  • The speaker's suck

  • @NoyzyBoyZ3 i couldnt have said it better myself!

  • what is it about the speakers that sucks,

im looking for a good tube amp at the moment and this one sounds ok,

  • wow how nice cleans

  • i hav e this amp, its INSANELY LOUD! the loudest ive turned it to was 4 and that filled up and entire club. i use this for cleaner stuff and then my peavey valveking for dirty stuff, but when tweaked right you can get some really great dirty tones out of it. the reverb is out of this world to

  • how would this sound with a fender am strat deluxe hss rosewood fredboard ? :D

  • THX a LOT MAN!!!! great demo!

  • Will you be in my band?

  • He's a good player isn't he?

'sorry if i suck...' good on you man, keep it up!

  • That is amazing sound. You can really make that amp sing.

  • This is actually the best demo I've seen for this amp. You sond me on this amp dude. You should be allowed to keep that Les Paul lol. Great review!

  • get your balls to the walls!!!!

  • Thanks, kid. It does get tiring seeing people demo'ing the same exact way all the time. You're pretty awesome. PS I like the spacious voice effect. Are you wearing a cave on your head?

  • You made this amp sound better than most people can, so you obviously don't suck.

  • 5 stars.

  • Holy clipping microphones, Batman!

  • fender supersonic 2x12 huge!!! volume high on price but well worth it

  • 5 stars my friend.

  • does it overdrive on the clean channel with the volume up?

  • Can This amp produce a good distorted sound at lower Volumes ???

  • yep, the distortion wont sound like it would if the amp was at 8, but it still sounds great in between 1 or 2

  • thanks mate, going to check that one out

  • hey I am looking for a lush clean tone I can put a jemini distortion pedal through. The guitar i'm using is a Ibanez Jem. I'm looking for a nice warm tone that I can really make the guitar sing through will this give me what i want?

  • If you want a loud clean tone, then what you want is the '65 Twin Reverb!

  • I have a '65 twin reverb and this guy is right... that amp is so clean and so loud its not even funny. That 85 watt clean amp blew a cranked 5150 out of the water at my band practice last week. Huge volume!

  • i have some very slight hum on mine. always. anybody have the same?

  • single coils? that might be ur problem :)

  • You're a real skynyrd fan, aren't you? The southerners tend to be...

  • burnsheepy, check out peavy's classic series. I have a classic 20 that I bought back in like 96'. It rocks, tons of gain natural saturation and mid boost. I have twelve amps, and everytime I record I always seem to go back to that one. tone is reminiscent of brian may.

  • cheers for that one friend :)

  • can anybody suggest similar tube amps to this at a cheaper price?

  • your grandma had a les paul laying aroud?!?!?! WHAT! hahaha Man...your grandma is badass

  • amen

  • Thanks for a good demo, keep on rockin' I got a hot rod deluxe today. I love the thick full clean and edgy drive. Perfect for blues or souther rock!

  • nice demo,

I just bought a deluxe vm played it for about 30 mins and it packed in, going back to the shop tomorrow, will be taking the hot rod home !

  • Thanks for the demo. I think yours is the best demo for this amp I've seen.

  • Trust me, you don't suck. Nice playing.

  • nice demo...do you have a problem with your power tubes rattling?

    thanks.

  • much better w/ less paul especially in the drive channel. Now I have big doubt between Hot Rod Deluxe or Blues Jr. Great video.

  • Thanks so much for posting this vid using a guitar with humbuckers!!! sounds great

  • great review!

  • I WISH I HAD A COMPLETLY AWESOME GRANDMA WHO HAD GIBSONS JUST SITTING AROUD!!!!! Awesome review tho and no you dont suck :P

  • thanks for the demo with a LP...

  • I had a Hot Rod Deluxe for years. Got good use out of it.. I just traded it in for a Deluxe Reverb. I like the distortion on the Deluxe reverb better. (no drive channell.. but just turn it past 5 and you get great break up. Especially with a Gibson. If you're looking for great distortion.... get a marshall.

  • Do you think this amp could get a good distortion and clean tone at a practice level, or is 40 watts of tube power too much to get a decent toneat low volume?

  • I have a 40 watt Marshall tube amp, and it sounds pretty good at bedroom levels. As long as the amp has a master volume, you can tweak it at low volumes.

  • nice job!

  • Nice demo. - can you use the "more drive" channel as a lead boost on stage ?

  • hahaha awesome demo

  • I had that amp. It has a really great clean tube tone. I had to sell it cause I had a debpt to pay. It was hands down the best clean tube tone for the price. I will buy it again when I get some spare change. xD

  • haha I love how you say a couple hundred dollars = spare change :-p

  • Anyone who says this amp is shit should see this demo.

  • les pual blak beauty AND a hot rod, you muther fucker ive been playing for 8 years and i still have my old inherited kallimazoo and cort strat copy..... lucky bastard

  • i make this money from playing gigs!!! The les paul isnt even mine!! Its my Grandmas!!!

  • lol i get like 10$ each gig cause i have a band that hogs the money.... nice playing anyway, nice gear.

would you recommend that amp for clubbing and stuff?

  • That shouldn't happen. You should get the money, you all put in the equal amout of effort to play, it should be split fairly and evenly.

  • y6eah ur right! we get paid by the clubs and tips so i should be getting waty more.

    thanks

  • you dont need to reply guns1rose you have what you have and you dont need to answer to him.

    good video

  • how highs the volume in this video? i want a great amp but that i can also play in my room without shaking the walls.

  • bedroom levels, about 3.

  • nice tone man. loved the skynyrd! about whats the number you can turn this up to in your house for a decent level but not too loud? thanks man

  • Haha....1.

  • my house shakes when i have this thing set at like...2 lol it goes up to 12

  • hey man does the master volume on the amp apply to the clean channel aswell or only the overdrive chan?? Im just trying to find out weather this amp can stay clean when cranked or if the clean channel only has one nob. Ive checked out some of your videos too and your a brilliant guitar player dude! Take it easy man

  • master volume is for both channels. FOr maxumum clean power, crank master up and control volume with the volume knob.

  • Dude, that's what I said. My dad and I plugged it up just to try it. We totally underestimated it, had it on like five. We shit ourselves...

  • @asbestosinhaler

2 and a half is pretty much the most you can turn it up in your house.

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere.

But damn I love this amp, got mine a couple of weeks ago. Haven't been able to play it as much as I'd like because of exams...but last one tomorrow then a three month summer holiday XD

  • idk y u said u dont sound good i have been playing for six years and for one and a half years this is awsome it took me three years to be that good but also i started when i was 9 but still good job man

  • nice skynyrd tone man

  • ive always wanted that tone from my Hot Rod Deluxe, but you really cant get any...

my advice would be to get an distortion pedal like the Marshall Gov'nor or a Marshall itself.

  • for humbuggies.. I'm not a fan of this amps drive channel.. I think it's fine to add a little gain.. but if you want a good overdrive, your best luck is a good pedal.. I stack an OCD on top of my HotRod,.. I love it.. GREAT amp.. high value, quality amp.

  • do u think a vox cooltron duel overdrive would be good with this amp for dist.

  • if you want distortion, I would go with a distortion pedal.. a couple of my favorites is the metal muff and the HBE fullmetaljacket.. but for overdrive, my favorite is fulltone OCD, but there are lots of good choices out there and the Vox would be a good one.. whatever sounds best to your ear man.

  • Very much thinking of getting one of these

Any idea of the weight of the Amp?

  • 45 lbs

  • 45lbs

  • it's heavy. mine feels like its like 60lbs.. idk,.. it's manageable for me, but I'm a big guy

  • nothing :(

tried pushin in the tubes and tighteninig the speakers, but I think I have located teh source of the buzz. It's the power supply, or at least that's the position where the vibration comes from... I don't know anything about stuff like that so I'm not sure I want to put my hands there... I guess I'll have to take it back to the tech guys :(

  • You have a buzz? My Fender Blues Jr has a little tube vibration on one of the 12a7s when i play a few certain tones.

  • for ur blues jr. u can get these holders that they sell on guitar center for any amp to keep the tubes still i think they r fairly cheap. should help some!

  • That's your grandma's Les Paul. lol

  • i have a problem with my deville...

when I play some low notes on the E and A strings something inside the amp is resonating a buzzing. not too loud, but I can't see I don't hear that little buzz on those notes.

does anyone have the same problem? cos I've heard the same thing (even a louder buzz) on a hot rod deluxe...

at the store they just told me "they are all built like that"...

  • sounds like your tube covers. Try pushing the Power tubes in, they may be loose.

  • i'm going to try that.

but what are exactly these "tube covers" ? you mean the foam around the tubes that stops them from vibrating too much?

  • nevermind i was thinking of a different amp. Try pushing your tubes in, and then try tightening the speaker.

  • I've found the suggestion about tightening the speaker on a couple of forums as well today. I'm going to try that as well, I really hope it's that, because this little noise is driving me crazy.

    thanks for your help!

  • the first thing about this amp is to change the tubes and possibly the speaker. and this amp really does it's job. i'm impressed by mine.

  • would this and a Highway one series telecaster be good for led zeppelin style rock

  • Also I have a tube screamer and a decent distortion pedal for it as well.

  • probobly if you use a good overdrive/distortion pedal with it...

  • really good demo thanks

  • Dude how old are you?!? You sound good...

  • also, has anyone here ever ran one of these with a hot plate?

  • i just ordered one of these. i've read so much about switching the speaker to a celestion and switching out the tubes. i also read that it as worth checking all the soldering, as apparently it can be shoddy. what would mods would ou suggest? i've got overdrive pedals coming out of my ass (ts808/ocd/bunch of boutique pedals) so i want to focus on working with the amp...

  • ha...same eq settings as me. fair play!

  • Is the speaker change really worth it?

  • o god yes!!!! Dont get me wrong, the tubes are already great in this amp, but the speaker...... its another story!

  • So you highly recommend a Celestion vintage 30 or something of that nature? Or will somekind of dist/od-pedal do the trick just as good? I am just about to buy one these cool amps..

  • you know, first i would get something like a fulltone OCD pedal. The overdrive on this amp honestly sucks compared to the OCD, and maybe the speaker shold come later....

  • Are you using stock speakers(Eminence) and tubes in that amp??,I thought of getting a Fender Hot Rod amp and putting Celestions in it.

  • for this demo, all original. Speaker changing makes a incredible difference!!! I have a celestion vintage 30 in mine now, and boy what a difference it made.

  • Cool!, That 'Hard rock riff near the end sounded real cool coming from that amp,I can imagine how incredible it would sound being pumped though a pair of Celestions,Thanks.

  • I put a Eminance Red Coat series Canabis Rex speaker (made from hemp) in mine and kept the original speaker and made a extension cab with it and now I got a lovely little 2x12 stack with the custom speaker at height and it is simply the best thing I've ever done. Now just saving for another Canabis Rex for the ext cab, but the original is still in great shape so I'll probably wear hem down a bit then put the older Rex in the cab and a new one in the amp. Celestions are great too, check the web

  • is it the middle to make AC / DC or Metallica?

  • yes, scooped mids will be harder, heaver, and more modern, but boosted mids will be more classic rock..

  • one chord from the send on the effects loop til your effect and then one chord from four effects to the return of the loop..

  • i just got this amp and on the drive channel it has alot of feedback. is that normal?

  • yes, listen to 0:19 in the video... you can hear a little bit of feedback...

  • the drive channel on this amp is a little muddy,.. so I got an OCD pedal and am planning on getting a smart gate.. no feedback unless I am facing the amp at volumes above 11

  • cool, thanks.
