  • Masterpiece.And that´s all.Thanks for this :)

  • New mission: fuck that historybook and practice the shit out of my bass.

  • this is too great for me...

  • I do not believe in "The Best" and have many reservations about players like Victor Wooten. Then I see and hear this guy, Michael Manring, and I realize that his work is "The Best!" Thank you, Mr. Manring. Time to purchase your MP3's and other materials and learn how to play great music. Many kind regards, Ernie Leblanc

  • To anyone that has disliked this video. Why did you do that? Like in all seriousness. Why? I'm a little offended because this is kind of perfect.

  • 2:00 = heavin in 10 seconds!

  • That Chord Change!!!!! 3:57

  • Holy shit...and all on a bass too

  • Alguém saberia enumerar as técnicas que ele usou na formação desse solo? Que coisa mais linda né

  • beautiful sound

  • Haunting... just beautiful.

  • What kind of bass is that?

  • @yekshemesh4alig hyperbass

  • @yekshemesh4alig Zon Hyperbass Micheal Manring Signiture model. There's a vid on youtube of him explaining the bas and the different detuners on it.

  • @XxtreborobertxX I already watch it, wasn't the technical overview I hoped it would be. Still an amazing instrument that takes an even more amazing player to do it justice.

  • bass inter new word!!

  • Does anyone know where we can find these detuners please?

  • @MrDaiv1996 find them on hipshot, their called hipshot xtenders (not extenders), u can get them for nearly any tuner model

  • @robertchrismedd Thanks ;)

  • So frickin' beautiful!

  • I think he plays more harmonies than actual notes lol - genius

  • beautiful instrument 4 a beautiful song; <3 it

  • This is so beautiful, it didn't blow my mind, it gave me an experience best described as ounces of serotonin completely flooding my brain for 4 minutes and a half minutes..

  • @jurnag12 Your description is perfect, but it did blow my mind at the same time.

  • Ladies and gentilmen, allow me to present:

    Hagrid on guitar!

  • definitely my favourite bass solo :)

  • I cannot understand the 81 morons that don't understand the genius involved in the piece. He couldn't get the harmonics he wanted to, so he did what any bassist would do (that's a joke, btw): he changed the tuning of his bass throughout the song and kept playing! Fricking amazing bassist!

  • what did i just watch? and why are my ears crying?

  • simply amazing

  • Whoever Selene is ... She must be crazy about you!!!

  • Most Melodic thing I've ever seen. Absolutely incredible

  • I could listen to a 10 or 15 minute version of this song any day of the week as it is like a mantra that leaves you craving more.

  • 81 people have absolutely no appreciation for music whatsoever

  • selene is a greek moon goddess

  • "Ok. now that I'm finished tuning, I'd like to actually play you something." ~Michael Manring

  • @azahnd82 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA ULTRA XXXXXLOL

    Love Youtube comments...HAHAHAHAHA

I watch Youtube only for comments, even when people fight it is so funny!

  • mio dio...poesia

  • His strings must hate him, but that's the price you pay for art like this.

  • the other guys are right there should be 2 like buttons instead of a dislike one

  • a true bass master

  • Y U NO 10M

  • ебаное говно

  • guy should be in a porn flick with a 11 incher choking some chick -

  • nice real time tuning - to make it happen.

  • Jesus christ.........that was.....no words man, no words.

  • it sounds like an ancient requiem to me.

  • absolutely beautiful...

  • I rarely ever swear..but within 20 seconds of this video i could have written a new dictionary...holy fuck Michael..

  • Dear Santa...

  • Why? Why people likes some shit and did'nt listen this magic?

  • there seems to be a wet spot on his pants...

  • He must break his G string every few days :P Haha I love it.

  • a Floating one!.

  • They need to put whammy bar on the bass! I guess.

  • @GoofyGuitar68

They have ;) I think Hipshot make them :)

  • @liveforthekill1 He changed the tuning to so many varying degrees, a hipshot would not work. I am still at a loss for words after listening and watching him play! I have played bass for over 25-years and do some pretty complicated techniques on a fretless bass, but this guys is amazing!

  • I was in such a trance watching this and I nearly clapped along with the audience when it was done, till I remember I was sitting at my computer.

  • This is so beautiful that even Chuck Norris would cry if he heard it.

  • Anyone else is hearing a very high sound in the beginning of the vid`?

  • @MusicFreak192939 I hear a slight digital hiss in the beginning, slightly to the right channel.

  • If Jaco had had this technology, the world might be a better place :c

  • Oh My Jaco!!!

  • What I love about Michael Manring is how original he is. I mean, almost every rock bassist is riding off the accomplishments of another bassist that made advances in the instrument, but this is so goddamn original there's no way he couldn't of thought of all this himself.

  • I´ll be basic just saying: wath a fuckin great lovely and funny music

  • nice...

  • He should put a hipshot on his pony tail so that he can change it from bad to worse.

  • I think don ross is just thinking WHOA! this guy plays so nice.

  • 77 people are either deaf AND blind or from a planet where genious bass players murdered their parents

  • @shirtstuff HAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHA

  • Wonderful piece of music mr Michael !

  • i don't get it, how can you dislike this? Is it disliked through jealousy? thats the only reason i can see for it. Even if you don't like the music surely you can appreciate the talent...

  • O_O

  • Uh... why does he retune it? Play at different spots instead?

  • @cursedswordsman because he can.

  • @cursedswordsman it sounds smoother as it's on a fretless bass, he doesnt have to slide up or down to notes or release a note and fret it in another position. Also alot of the notes are harmonics that you can't usually move around, detuners allow him to do this. Due to the nature of the instrument the freted notes sound a bit twangy, if the whole song sounded twangy it wouldn't be the same, so there are bell like tones then the twangy parts over it and it fits so awesomely.

  • @cursedswordsman

He doesn't retune the strings. It's a Zon Hyperbass. There are many levers next to the tuning pegs as well at the back of the body which allows him to relax or increase the tension of the strings without having to actually retune each string . And besides, you can never get a sound like this by just playing at the spots. The song would lose all of its character and he probably wouldn't be able to play it if he just fretted every note.

  • @whouston33wh thanks to your comment, i just noticed that behind the bass's tuning ears are some levers :) i also thought he was screwing with the tuning

  • Very ingenious, just unbelievable.

  • Puffffff...He is more than musical

  • Is there only bass in this or are there other instruments?

  • @KayaKnightwalker

this was a complete bass solo. nothing but bass. but in the dvd this is from it shows two other acoustic guitarists.

  • I met Michael. Nice guy, very humble. Best bass player in the world.

  • 76 people are deaf

  • Dat bass.

  • overtones

    underated

  • Breathless...

  • No matter how many times I watch this, the part @1:46 slays me everytime

  • a man who... uses the tuner to create the music... his mother must have done something right..

  • he make my friends who play the bass look like an idiot...

  • I have a question, how to download this videos??

  • @2eLpEla2

    1. copy the whole link

    2. go to keepvid.com

    3. type in the link in main bar (you'll notice)

    4. then wait and then DOWNLOAD

  • Where did the 'I think the tuning is O M F G' top comment go?! :'-(

  • @Monumentum616 Why do you care?

  • @Arglactable It wasn't my comment, and I don't care that much. I just thought it was a rather apt and amusing response to this video. So NYAAAH!

  • 76 people wana be michael

  • This song breaks my heart.

  • awesome

  • amazing

  • phenomenal player...walks along the path with Jaco !

  • I love the bit from 1:25 - 1:45

  • This isn't a song, it is a dance between man and guitar.

  • Watching this makes a great peace in my mind... it's outstanding...

  • That's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard... Astonishing technique too... Awesome.

  • she must be a beautiful lady…i wonder if he still loves her

thank you michael for this brilliant benchmark in bass playing

  • "Ok. Now that Michael is done tuning his guitar, we're going to play another song for you."

  • @Rickardius hahahaha

  • @Rickardius Lol xD

  • @Rickardius Hah that really made me laugh pretty hard.

  • love it.

  • @JazzSXman It's called versatility

  • @JazzSXman you sir, are a tool

  • that's just him tuning it

  • I think there is a problem with this clip...

There is not supposed to be a dislike button.

  • @rola229 You're right - there should be a RETARD button instead.

  • 75 people who don't like it don't like even thenselve!

  • 4:33 Don tries to do the same on his guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • @BaronessOP 4:33 sorry

  • not to sound like a pussy.. but this brought tears to MY eyes.

  • @DiotisHimself441 What a pussy.

  • ofmg what a feeling

  • The only person I've ever heard play with the same amount of originality and creativity is Jaco Pastorius. This is amazing, and pushes the limits of what bass playing can be. But then that's why Michael manrings' a legend :)

  • @Deusexmachinamusic i think that he studied with pastorius as his teacher.. im not sure but his love for harmonics confirms it a bit :) u can also check it out if u want

  • @Xavienos Yeah from what I've read about him he studied with Pastorius during the 80s.Two great bass players!

  • 1:59 amazing harmonic!!!

  • wow every time i think that the realm of basedome cant be expanded further i discover someone like this

  • so inspirating emotional and relaxing

  • One of the best songs for bass guitar, simply elegant and romantic!

  • This video is always an inpsiration.

  • And now that I'm tuned, let me begin.

  • 2:47, bass power chord!!

  • omg did he just pee in his pants?

  • frickin amazing manthing!

  • what kind of guitar is this

  • @banglinh222 zon hyperbass

  • great player with great musical fantasy... aach

  • can anybody tell me that contraption on the bridge of his bass?

  • @Made4EvilUsed4Good Utilise the mystic powers of the internet and search for the Zon Hyperbass. Ever so exciting x

  • Comment removed

  • It's to much shit for me. I hate how us white guys have to go over and beyond to be labeled 'good' we can't just play groove stuff.. but manring is the fucking man. And this is coming from someone who HATES solo bass.

  • *yawn*

    Jaco did it in '76.

  • @milesdavidsmith

Ridicolous. you shouldn't only appreciate the base technique (which is nothing exactly new as you pointed it out - and is applied in a great way btw) - but the composition and execution as well. Those two are flawless.

Think about it next time. Shut up and show some respect.

Post a video reply of yourself doing better both technically and melodically and then we'll talk again.

  • @Aghawa It's not a question of whether or not I can play better than him. My beef with Michael Manring is that his entire approach to music angles NOT on his compositional or improvisational skills. They're good, but not GREAT. They're OKAY, but listen to him play compositions by Metheny or Coltrane. He has chops, obviously, but his shit is stale and obviously doesn't come from the heart of a true jazz musician like Jaco Pastorius (who, I say again, did this better in '76).

  • @Aghawa And that whole "post a video response of yourself doing this" bullshit is so juvenile. Obviously I can't do this, but just because I can't do it doesn't mean I have to worship the guy. Jeez, you act like I just slapped your mom or something. I said the guy's playing is boring, which to me IT IS, because it's not as musical as it could be. It's diluted with filler. WOW SHOCK FACTOR bullshit. Jaco did it in '76.

Harmonically (is that what you meant?), I find this piece to a dead end.

  • @Aghawa Also what I find to be a dead end is his "technique" that you also seem to be drooling over. It's pretty cool, but (again) if you listen to him playing REAL jazz, it becomes a very limiting factor. He plays out of tune on straight ahead stuff, and obviously works out every little note BEFORE he performs it. This guy is NOT worthy of the Godly praise he seems to receive. Go listen to John Patitucci or Gary Willis, those are two bassists with TRULY versatile musical technique.

  • @Aghawa And by the way, you misspelled "bass"

  • @milesdavidsmith the thing is jaco didnt do it. im not really all that offended, but this man has clearly spent quite some time playing bass. thats worth more than a yawn if you ask me.

  • @TheFunkyCriminal dope shit

  • WTF?

  • As a bass player is hard not cry while watching this. The only thing that goes through my mind is if im wasting my time playing bass or if ill be this good before i reach 80 -.-

  • Remembering where all the harmonics are on a frettless base is a lot harder than he makes it look.

  • i dont like making this types of comments, but 72 people thought they where the best at bass

  • holy f-ing shit!

AFK - try to get my jaw in place again...

  • after the presentation, Don Ross looks like hes tuning his guitar but in his mind he is saying "I will totally try to do this"

  • is that don ross in the background?. if so. im pleased about it

  • @chpsoh The description should answer your question!

  • @chpsoh Read the discription

  • Well this epic guy is showing us that we don't have any reason in living on this planet ...

  • andy mckee and don ross are both shitting themselves

  • I KNOW WHY HE PLAYED THAT WAY!

there're no fret markers on the neck!

it is much easier to learn to play this way!

    xD

  • @shzindenPL Its actually A LOT harder to play a fretless bass unless you are good already because you have to have exact finger positioning to get perfect notes

  • @MrIbanezExclusive i've meant that it is much easier to learn to play changing tuning pegs than to use fretboard on fretless ;)

  • God of the bass guitar.

  • Guitar is one of the most versatile instruments! There are so many ways to play it and so many different characters using it. It's wonderful. and In German in Wunderbar :D

  • Selene: Goddess of the moon

  • Performing @ the Canadian Guitar Festival, July 29th - 31st, 2011. Kingston Ontario .

  • Dude the whole changeing tune was really creative. And badass. :{D

  • we lost this type of music and its tp come come music from the heavens

  • That hit some buttons somewhere in my brain

  • Anyone else notice Don Ross in the background?

  • Has this guy heard about 6 stringers ? :p

  • @kingkeith666 He's got a 10 string (5x2) but rather than just do 5-string + octaves, he has other intervals for the double strings.
