Gosh I used to have Febrile Convulsions when i was a child (i'm 30 now) but they stopped when i got to about 4 years old. One of my first memories is of my Dad stroking my head and the hum of a fan nearby. Bless this little guy in the video, it does get better.
And a cold. We are told this created the 'perfect storm' for the seizure to occur. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us all. I somehow found this video comforting and reassuring that we are not alone. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Our 23 month old daughter had her first seizure 2 days ago. It was the scariest event my wife and I have ever experienced. She was picked up at daycare by my wife and was totally fine( running around and playing). Once they got home our daughter seemed quite tired. We chalked it up to only 1 hr. nap that day. Within 20 min. she was shaking and unresponsive. Spent 48 hrs in hospital. All ok now . This was by far the worst night of our lives. At the time she was being treated for an ear infection
I bet it is terrifying for a small child to go through something like this. I think I may have seizures (my fiance tells me he thinks thats what I have because I start to shake uncontrollably and such so far ot has only happened at night) and I know I am terrified just before I black out and when I come to.
Our 16 months old boy had this last night. It was terrifying. He couldn't breath anymore, became stiff and changed color. And that feeling of impotence and not knowing what to do when you see him like this is unbearable.
Thank you for posting this. My son had a 105 degree temperature last week. Although the doctors found nothign wrong with him, so many people were scarying me saying that he had a seizure. Seeing this is not only reassuring, but it helps me understand what to do if it ever happens. Thank you so much for sharing this moment to teach others!
Very well done guys :) talking to him and reassuring him are the things most people forget, yet so important, keep them safe and if it continues call an ambulance. Excellent job :)
my son has just gone through this and like many others have said here we was scared out of our minds we had ambulances out 2 nights in a row but its thx to ppl like you we now have a better understanding ignore the mindless idiots that have put up silly remarks you done good for a lot of ppl for sharing this vid and as a dr said it was the right thing to do videoing it thx again and hope your baby is ok now
WOW, My 9 month old daughter just had a Febrile Seizure and my wife and I have never seen anything like it. Scariest moment in our lives! Thank you for posting this video. When you are at the ER all day and listening to all of the diagnosis and advice, it is hard to take it all in and clearly understand it. This video and the comments that follow are reassuring and I know that it makes us better parents and we will be much more prepared if this happens again.
My 5 year old son had a febrile seizure last night. it was terrifying!! And I thought i knew scary.. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010. but last nights seizure took it hands down. seizures almost seem so rare, you dont see them unless you youtube them (for me at least) THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. because of my experience i stayed calm and directed dad. staying calm is important! kids feel your energies. i know that when i feel flustered, its because dad is panicing and scaring me! lol
I am an EMT student at FMTI. The textbook says it's related to rising fevers in children from 6 months to 6 years but nothing to worry about as these seizures are harmless and common in young kids... It's only an emergency if they persist more than 10 minutes.
My 2 year old had a febrile seizure in February of this year. His dad brought him to me because he had woken up in the middle of the night and had a 103 fever. I was about to nurse him when he let out a little cry then started seizing. I knew within seconds what was going on because of my medical background but omg the fear that night put into me is indescribable. He was taken to the hospital where they discovered he had strep on top of a rare blood disorder so Im glad I called 911.
Thank you for the upload. I witnessed my little man have a febrile seizure yesterday. It was the scariest thing I've ever experienced and i ended up calling 911. Videos like this just show that you don't have to freak out. Knowing I'm not alone out there, that other little guys (and gals) go through these little fits is also calming.
I agree with the others on this that this video is very helpful and important for parents to see. Our son had his first (and hopefully last) febrile seizure two days ago after a 102 degree fever. As first time parents we were incredibly frightened and called 911. It's videos of calm parents like you that make this bearable if it were to occur again. thank you.

thankyou for postin this video, my daughter had a Febrile Convulsion yesterday, it was the most terrifying day of my life, it was hard to explain what was happening to her aswell, but by watching this it was made me 100% sure she had a febrile convulsion, and the paramedic took her temperature at 39 degree. Its such a terrifying thing to watch your own flesh and blood go through, but the main way for us parents and carers to help them is to stay calm! Also what a good father x
Thank you thank you thank you for this video, this just happened to my son who had a temperature of 39 degrees C. Freaked the crap outa me, ambulance, emergency the whole shabang... knowing that it is "somewhat" common, and seeing the same thing means I know what type of seizure it is, so thank you so much for uploading!
Wow this brought me back a tragic memory.. my daughter had a febrile seizure on june 8 and hasn't had one since is she most likely going to have another one if she ever does come down with a fever? And I also was a bit concerned her seizure lasted about a good 5-8 mins ): and as ayoung parent I had no idea what was going on scared me so much I thought for a split second I did not want to have kids ever a again.
Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. Our oldest daughter has had febrile seizures a few times and they were so scary. Good job at remaining calm. The first time our daughter had a febrile seizure, she was only 10 months old. :(
@suedonam. I'm sorry but you are wrong, research a little more it's rare but it's happened. None the less it's our children we are talking about here so let's prepare worse case scenario.
Oh my god....im so glad to see that you held him throughout the whole thing...... what a nice dad...and i am really sorry and hope one day this all stops
I can't believe the parents are getting flak for taking the video! As any neurologist or seizure disorder specialist will tell you, footage of a seizure is literally the most powerful diagnostic tool of all!
I personally thank you regardless of what people say or think, for posting this because some people do not realize the fight we have with the health care system to convince a doctor that a child needs to be seen and evaluated. My daughter had a febrile seizure that lasted nearly five minutes as not only turned blue but completely stopped breathing. I don even know how or what but whatever was on our side and she came to. My husband was to horrified to react and I did what had to be done and cal
my 10 month old baby just had one today!!!was the worst thing ive ever gone throu!!!!my mom had him the whole time while i had a panic attack!!! hes good now just have to keep hes fevers doen!! :-( worst thing to see this breaks my heart to peaces!!
Thank you for sharing this. My daughter had a seizure last night and it was the most intense 5 minutes of my life. I had a meltdown and thank God my husband kept his cool. The doctors say this is a common thing however it's hard to accept. God forbid this happens again to my daughter I will remember your video and try to remain calm. Thanks again for sharing and I hope your little guy is well. :)
Thank You for this video. It is exactly what my son still does at 8 years old when his fever rises too quick.
For the supposedly medical professionals who are telling that Febrile Seizures are not medical emergency's then they have never witnessed one that causes a child/baby to stop breathing. I've had doctors tell me over and over again that it is still one of the scariest things they endure in the ER.
My brother had a seizure a couple of weeks ago for the first time and it lasted for over an hour, I for one am glad somebody put something like this up. Knowing that someone else has gone through this was very helpful at the time. I think it is also very important to show this footage as many people will not immediately recognise a seizure when they see one
thank you so much for posting this. I know its been years, but my son started having febrile seizures last summer and has had a total of 3 (two occurred on the same night). I had know idea this could happen. Then last night while leaving my daughters school we came across a panicking mom whos son was having a seizure and I was able to use what I have learned since my sons seizure to help him and her. I feel like we need more advocates for something that happens to 1 out of 10 children. Thanks!
Thank you for posting. My 1 year old son just had one. It was so scary. He's my third and the other two never had one. I called 911 and the they told me it was because of his fever.
oh, also... i might not have been so quick to question any parent who put a video like this one up for all to see if there werent a thousand videos just like this on youtube. at what point does it become useless? i say... after the third. this video is for attention. i dont care what anyone says. and its sad.
@emmoney and husband: that's fantastic that you were able to share this with other parents. My daughter had febrile seizures when she was little (now 23 with babies of her own) and I wish I had this to refer to. I've never been more scared or felt more helpless in my life then when I witnessed her first seizure.
I know it was three years ago but I couldn't help but cry while watching this and I hope everything is okay with your beautiful little guy.
what fantastic parents!! it is hard to watch your own children go thru seizures, but talking to him in a calm voice ... daddys here, and mummy stroking his hair, brought tears to my eyes. i hope your wee man is doing well :D xoxoxox
any nerve problems- better get off carbs and read the yeast syndrome- how yeast/carbs affect nerves- also-my l mos old was vaccinated and had severe jacknif convulsions for 1 1/2 hrs- i called emergency kids hosp in toronto and they just said if it lasts longer than 2 hrs call back- i was so mad- doc of course was not home-looking back i m glad i not go to hospital- one woman i know went to hospital where her baby was flooded with drugs which she was forced by social services-see VRAN, vac react

sendz a prayer and gentle hug . i was diagnosed with Epilepsy in May 2010 . I have grand mal , complex partial . and starting in Jan 2011 i also starting having absence seizures. i'm 24 year old female . i just wanted to let you know that your not alone . after my seizures i get a bad headache that brings me to tears .
my boy had one last night very scary as i was on my own and had another baby.called the ambulance straight away and cooled him down.well done for putting this up.helps a lot of people see the visible signs of a seizure and puts out a bit of knowledge.dont listen to anyone on this.yes it is quite disturbing but knowledge is power and now one more person knows :)
My now 13 yo had a febrile seizure when she was 18 mos old. 7 days earlier she had her MMR vaccs. She developed a slight case of measles from the vaccine and spiked a high fever in the middle of the night. (105) She woke starting to cry, and when I picked her up, she went into her seizure. I had read enough about it, sat on a bed, laid her on her stomach over my lap, rubbed her back. She fell asleep immediately when it was over. Cool bath to bring temp down, then ER. Only one she had
Just some helpful advice.....when I go into a seizure people screaming or freaking out made me go into a seizure futher. When talked to calmly like this father is being brought me out of one.
My son used to have these seizures. He's 13 now and has not had one in almost 10 years now. Watching my son have a seizure was the worst experience. I'm just happy it's behind us now.
wooow this made me cry, because my son does the same thing, it hurts that my kid has to go thru this and hes had 4 seizures in the last month and a half, and he is being seen at the neurologist..she put him on kapra(may be misspelled) and he hasnt had any since, so this vid really helped me out alot, because i kno im not the only one going thru this...i wish you all and the baby luck..God loves all of you..=)
Hi thanks for putting up this video, its really scary to see this happening,my ne[hew who is about 13 months had 3 seizures in the past day...please help what do we do to stop this??????
@2010razi Unfortunately, there is nothing to do. Your nephew might be referred to a neurologist for an MRI to check for brain anomalies, but some doctors wait until more seizures before doing that... if his parents are concerned about getting an MRI I am sure their pediatrician can refer them to a good neurologist. My son had 1 seizure and then 3 in the next fever. That is when he was referred.
When was his first seizure? How old? My son has Dravet Syndrome and his first seizure was a febrile and he was 4 months old. One thing that helps if you haven't seen a neuro is cool wash rags under the armpits can usually stop a febrile seizure. If you notice he has a fever try to give motrin before a seizure starts and do tylenol 3 hours later and keep switching on and off of those 2 medications. Febrile seizures are very common in small children 3 and under.
@2010razi you can see this when the temperature goes very fast +39°C.
this is very scary to see but the thing you can do is putting your baby in a cold, not ice cold, bath for e couple of minutes. you can put a couple mg of valium (+/-2 mg) rectale, but this is for a docter.
so the only thing you can do is trying to get the temperature back to 37°C.
a seizure can holding on for a couple of minutes to +15 minutes. when it dures langer of 7 minutes you should call 911
@2010 As bad as it looks, a Febrile Seizure is very innocent. Our Daughter has had three and the first two scared us to death. We now know that it is very common in children up to the age of 6. Children of this age are unable to regulate their body temperature, this is how the Childs body copes with a state of overheat. It’s the body’s way of protecting the brain from the high temperature. My Wife and her brother had the same seizures as children and to no adverse effect .but do see a doctor

@2010razi febrile seizure is very common in children between the months of 6 months-5 years with fevers. They are usually short, HARMLESS, and rarely develop into epilepsy (only 2%). The only time you really need to worry is if the seizure is happening for more then 10 minutes.
I had a look at some others and I keep seeing the question Why put these videos up? I work with children and hope some day to have my own.
I think it's so important to share this as so many other parents are going through the same thing, it also helps people understand and not feel alone. I think it's important for people like me to know how to react if this happened in a session or even worse in the swimming pool.
As much as it brakes my heart to watch I feel more confident and hope that if it does happen I know what to do and I stay calm I hope it never does. I wish you all the best Sarah :) x
OMG I feel for you my baby had a febrile seizure last week and even though im in the nursing field it was the scariest thing of my life! Ughhh your son is in my prayers!
iIt s a pretty difficult ordeal to see your child go through such experiences as this, I felt completely hopeless when my little baby had her seizure. Thank you for posting your vids, In a small way it gives a little comfort to know people can relate.
juz put Valium 0.5ml in your child's anus..then take your child to the hospital immidiately..if u let your child having the seizures again,it will cause lots of complications..hope your child is fine now..~
@mirra143 Wow, great example of why not to take medical advice from people who cannot punctuate. Most childhood seizures do NOT cause permanent neurological damage and you should not panic and start shoving pulls in your child's rectum. They should be evaluated by an doctor and if there are serious problems they can be treated with many different drugs (of which Valium is not one!). Don't give a child prescription drugs, you could seriously hurt them and end up in prison.
My son is 18 months, and he just had a febrile seizure on 9/22/10. After reading the comments of others in my position and looking up information, me and family feel a whole lot better. Thank-you to everyone for their helpful comments.
@rsaeed Most febrile seizures occur because of a sudden spike in body temperature, and most occur during the first day of a fever. But a febrile seizure may also develop as the fever is declining.
@BrookNom08 haha I love how people jump on the bandwagon that Jenny Mcarthy started with saying "do not give kids vaccinations." Vaccines do not cause autism in kids. anyone who believes that should stop and realize that they listened to an adult model who probably has the iq of a gnat. vaccines only cause a minor immune response to create anti bodies. rarely does it cause any long term problems. Take a microbiology class
my son just had a febrile seizure yesterday and it was terrifying because i've never seen a seizure before ever in my life... hes out of the hospital and everything now and everythings ok... im just glad that these things dont cause permenant damage... as for the people talking crap about putting the seizures on youtube... dont listen to them, this is very helpful for people who want to learn more about them and how to prevent them if possible.. my son has only had 1 seizure so far but
thank u for posting this video. my 21 month old daughter just had her second febrile seizure on 8-14-10.her first seizure was back in January. it was very scary and i couldnt stop crying. i didnt know wut to do so i called the paramedics who kept telling me she was going to be ok and to stop freaking out. this is my first child and no one ever told me about febrile seizures.
@marysmom4 I'm sorry but that is wrong. Nobody has ever died from a febrile seizure. Other seizure disorders are different but I can assure you that it is physically impossible to die from a febrile seizure. SUDEP or status epilepticus but not a febrile seizure. It has never happened.
My 2 year old just had same thing happen-- actually I'm in hospital now with him and it's scary to parents no matter how simple it is .. Least knowing it is nothing serious helped me out but I guess to c him helpless nd limp kinda hits that big ole heart of mine...:-) thanks for all the info. God bless
I'm sure you already know, but it's usually nothing serious. Simple treatment and management of the symptoms should take care of it. Very cute baby by the way. He' going to be one handsome man! :)
Thank you for the video. I'm a 2nd year medical student and seeing the presentation of something we study helps it make alot more sense and this month we've been doing nervous system and all its functions, treatments, etc...From what I know it seems like he has complex febrile seizure? since you said it's his 3rd one in 12 hours! Thank god most febrile seizures are not serious like epilepsy. I remember now when I was very little I had one of these and my dad was trying to bring down my fever
thanks for sharing this - my toddler daughter has had the same seizures (which unfortunately she inherited from me - as I had them throughout my toddler-hood as well). I agree with the non-bathing thing - it never works for my girl, instead we noticed the same thing, she would always seize in the bath or right afterward - our pediatrician suggested skipping it, saying that perhaps the change in body temperature is what would trigger the spike (up/down) and send her into a febrile seizure.
Our son has febrile seizures with a fever. What I'm curious about is if your child stays awake and alert during. Our son has been awake or woken up during and cries and tells us it's scary. I'm just curious how common this is.
poor little fellow. my grand daughter had a few of these when she was 9 months old. She was fine when she went to bed and within 2 hours spike a 106°F. She was ridged, unresponsive and had nystagmus. 911 was called, ER. doc acted like no big deal but she also had vomiting and diarrhea. Gave her Tylenol or Motrin sent her home within 10 mins. of leaving she had another. Took her back and demanded they find out what was wrong. They admitted her for 5 days but never found a prob. Fine since.
I think this is educational for parents who dont know what is going on with their son if they perhaps are feeling under the weather. Im glad this is out there because I never had any idea what it was. Now I know. And after reading and seeing first hand what it looks like it is quite frightening. I highly doubt this person would post something just to get "hits" on youtube. No one wants to see their child in pain over and over for no purpose. How could you assume that? They look like great parents
My son had a seizure like this a few hours ago. Our only problem was it lasted 3 minutes and he didn't breathe the entire time and then when it was over my husband had to do CPR to get him to breathe. I honestly thought "this is it, he's going to die right here in my arms." I am still in shock! He is fine as of now, running around and smiling as usual. I saw this and told my husband that if he has another one we need to record it just so the doctors can see first hand what happens. Thank you!

hey honorablesushi and anyone else out there that thinks that this clip is wrong on youtube........... If I had a child having seizure's I would try and record them also. The doctors are not at the home when this happens and to show them this would make diagnosis a lot quicker. I also think it is great for education and for the poor family's out there who are going through the same thing and researching everything. If they saw this child they could say hey my child has similar symptoms.
hi honorablesushi, i just wanted to say that i looked up your video after taking an infant and child first aid class (our daughter is 3 mos) and being advised by the instructor to search febrile seizures on youtube so that we will recognize it if it happens to our daughter. I am grateful to you for posting this so that the first time I see a febrile seizure it won't be when my daughter is sick and I'm panicking trying to figure out what's going on. Try to ignore the negative comments.

Thank you for posting this, my son had a convolsion this week and i was terrified. I went onto youtube to try and find a video of another child having a convolsion so I could try to learn to recognise the symptoms. I hope your son is recovering.
my son just had one and i didnt know what it was and called the ambulance to take him in and they told me it was a febrile seizure and it was no big deal but to me it was the worst thing i have ever seen.
I see that you have been copping a bit of flak for posting this video up here. I guess a lot of people don't understand that this is not a serious condition and not that traumatic for the child. I'm a medical student in Australia and see about 5 or 6 kids like this a week in the emergency department, and the parents are always petrified about what might be wrong with their child, and rightly so. But getting awareness up with videos like this might help to allay fears somewhat. :)
@elroon I don't care what you are or what you do but apparently since your working in the ER and these mostly last only 1-3 min. you do not witness most of them. If your child is not breathing for 3 minutes and is turning blue it is one of the most scariest things in the world to watch. If your going to be in the medical profession I suggest you might get a little compassion first. Febrile Seizures can be dangerous.
Thank you emmoney for posting this video for us to see. I'm a student nurse and this kind of videos help me understand the materials I'm studying, instead of just reading a description of febire seizure in a textbook. There's a lot of people out there who go to the internet to supplement their education.
Dont let these negative people get to you my son had his first one on mothers day and it ia nice to see others are going thru this it takes some of the scaryness out of it
@MsJoncho, I see where you are coming from, but no, it's not quite the same. I think this is part of the HUGE stigma/misconceptions that people have about seizures. I have been an epileptic since the age of 9. I think it is scarier to watch/witness than to experience. I also think that since it appears to be such a scary thing to witness, it remains so misunderstood. A seizure is not a death sentence. Seeing it happen can prepare you for (God forbid) future episodes. I wish more ppl understood.
@naijagirl2009 oh yeah I know what you mean I know about this stuff. I'm trained for cpr, first aid, and aed but ive never witnessed a seisure or something serious like a heart attack so i quess it's freaky for me to see people so confortable with it. I guess seeing the baby like that freaks me out even though the what he's experiencing poses no danger.
@MsJoncho you know health emergency measures...well then that's great! if you are ever in a situation in which u see someone experiencing a seizure, at least you know what to do. :) don't freak out, the same way you wouldn't if you're doing cpr. Seizures involve a loss of control over one's body; the person doesn't necessarily feel any pain, if that makes it less scary for you. What scared me as a child was not the seizures, but seeing my parents freak out. even if you dont feel calm, fake it!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Both of my daughters have had these seizures, and when it occured I was too zoned in on my concern to even consider filming one. I wouldn't want to watch it, I hope to never see my children in that state again. I find it really sad that you actually put this on youtube, probably to see how many views you could get on your son having a terrifying and painful experience. Sleep on that. I agree with rsaeed... I don't understand why you would post your childs suffering.
@honorablesushi Read the comments. You will find many of them state how much better they feel seeing that another person has gone through the same experience. Geez. How insulting that you think I would put this on here for views. I have other videos for THAT....
I was contacted by an educator who saw this video and asked to use it in him EMT teaching materials. Sleep on that.... ugh!
@Emmoney I believe that you are completely justified in posting this. If a parent had this happen to their child, then they might not know what it is. If they wanted to know what a febrile seizure is, then they could come here, watch, and be able to recognize the symptoms and have their child treated accordingly. Thank you for improving people's knowledge about this, and preventing that much more confusion and panic in parents.
@Emmoney , Personally I appreciate the video because my son is 5 and he had his first one when he was 2 and I was FRANTIC....only son and had no clue of what that was, he has since had 3 more over the years since then, so it helps for me to see that you guys are really calm and that I am doing everything right. I still go a lil crazy when he has it but I pray that he will soon grow out of it as they say!! He just had 1 last night.... So again I appreciate it.
I have 2 sons, both boys spent time in the NICU. Before discharge you're made to view clips like this, to learn what to look for. My husband initially also felt it was cruel to film it. The NICU doc. explained that these seizures are short & difficult to film in a medical setting. Most of the films where made in homes. this Dad is comforting his son. He is not laughing. He is showing tenderness and concern all while trying to remain calm for his son.

@honorablesushi Being in paramedic school this is actually something that I am glad is posted. I can read about it all day long but until I see it I really have no idea what is going on. I highly doubt someone would post their child having a seizure for shits and giggles.
@honorablesushi These are posted to help other parents (like me) searching for answers. It helps educate & allows us to share experiances & ask questions. My doctor has recomended that I tape the next one if posible to help with diagnosis. That is why. It is not to enjoy a child suffering.I've seen so may comments from people like you. It's scary for any parent to witness especially in their own child. So maybe you should think about that next time you question why something like this is posted!
@honorablesushi As an EMT student, I found it helpful. Yes, it is an unpleasant situation, but how else are we to learn and find solutions, cures, medications, etc., if everyone keeps their conditions secret? One thing is reading something in a book and the other thing is seeing it in real life (or in a video). Wouldn't it be nice to have EMS come to your home and be able to identify a condition immediately and give immediate care??
@honorablesushi i think they have done a great thing by putting it here. because a lot of people like me who dont know what it is like to have febrile seizure will benifit from it. i mean my daughter got this yesterday and i couldnt describe the condition to the doctor until the doctor gave me the name for this medical problem. i was searching it on internet and was directed to this video. t
@JazbaiDil Same thing happened with me my 1and half yrs niece she had same thing and everyone in family was so scared. Now I know what to do if it comes back.
@honorablesushi have you ever thought about the fact she posted this to show other people what to watch for?! to show people what she has to go through? its not for attention, moron. Get a heart
@honorablesushi well unless youve ever encountered them then you wouldnt really know what they look like. unfortunatley when I learned what they were it was already too late for I had already been through one. the thing is parents dont know that febrile seizures affect all children as the bodys response when a fever is hitting too high. so many parents if they see this may know what is happening. I didnt when it happened I was completely oblivious and had no idea children had seizures like this.
@honorablesushi SHE DID IT TO LEARN FROM THEM!! MY NIECE HAS EPILEPSY-AND SINCE I'VE RECENTLY MOVED TO THE SAME CITY SHE'S IN-I WENT TO YOUTUBE TO FIND MORE INFO ABOUT HER CONDITION AND IT HAS HELPED ME A GREAT DEAL. NOW I CAN CARE FOR HER -TO GIVE A BREAK TO HER PARENTS, IM NOT SCARED ANYMORE TO DEAL WITH A SEIZURE. I KNOW WHAT TO DO. I CAN TELL HER PARENTS TO GO HAVE A NIGHT OUT IN THE TOWN-AND IF STHG HAPPENS IM ABLE TO HANDLE IT. I CAN BE A FULL PART IN HER LIFE-HER SEIZURES HAPPEN ANY TIME
@honorablesushi This is an excellent resource for Medical students such as myself... I am greatful people have the foresight to make available videos such as these.
despite what you think the posters reason for uploading the video is, as an EMT, people posting videos like this on youtube benefit me and other emts and medical professionals in seeing the different stages of seizures and for ones who have never seen an actual seizure, to actually see what the different types of seizures look like.
@honorablesushi I wanted to respond to make you realize how parents like this can help other parents. My daughter had what I believe to be a seizure a couple of weeks ago.Because it was short lived every doctor I have talked to tells me to wait for the next one. This is unacceptable to me but I understand their barriers.I have been doing research and came across this video.I was able to rule out this type of seizure thanks to this video and the caring family behind it.
@honorablesushi Did your Neurologist not suggest filming your children's seizures for correct diagnosis?
Neurologists suggest filming as people tend to not be able to seize on demand, and spending months in hospital waiting for one is not feasible. I cant believe you don't know this!!!
Also youtube is among many things an education tool, if you don't like watching these images, simply dont.
my son is 2 1/2 he had his second seizure last nite im so scared when this happens... i freak out and rush him 2 the er i need to be better educated about this pls help!!
I feel for your son...if it makes you feel any better, I had febrile seizures as a child (including one in which my father believed I was dying) but I haven't had a single one since I was a toddler and I have no memory of those that I experienced. I'm in medical school and I was curious to see what a febrile seizure looks like (especially given my history). Thank you for posting this video of your son and I hope that he's outgrown such episodes!
My 8 month old just had an febrile seizure 2 days ago. My wife and i woke up to him having it. By far, the scariest day of my life. I am so thankful that it's not as serious as it seems and that not all parents have to go through it. I do not wish that experience to anyone with kids.
Thanks for posting this video. My 24 month old son had his first febrile seizure 3 days ago..... I thought he was dying, and I called 911. I now know that they aren't typically life threatening. If it ever happens again, I just hope I can stay as calm as you did.....I know it's hard!! all my love to you and your family!
Lisamawa, my heart goes out to you. It is the scariest thing I have ever went through as well. I also thought my daughter was dying when she went into a full grand mal seizure for 45 minutes. All other seizures were less than five after the first one. It made me become a nurse and changed my whole life. Please stay calm if it ever happens again, get cool washcloths, loosen clothes. You will have the strength if it happens again to control your fear. I remember being hysterical,
@rsaeed Please give your credentials, since few working MDs have time to be on YT.Check your local ERs for what they do! Is it Munchausen's by Proxy that they continue to have their ill children (2) on YT
for their own praise? You don't think that's odd? Look up their YT name & check out the child with "spasms" when she eats.
Thank you for posting this video. My own son (9 months) just had his first, and hopefully last, febrile seizure a few days ago. It scared the sh-t out of me and my husband. We thought we were losing him. While hard to watch, this video was helpful to see what happens to another child during a seizure. I'm so sorry you and your son have to go through this....best of luck....
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You have both your children on You tube, being"ill". Something's wrong here, but I'm not a psychiatrist. There is a condition where YOU get more attention if you have a sick child....?
five and that there is no neurological effect shes now 4 she had one earlier this year total 5 now i take care of it at home like any other fever. but she always has fevers with seizures. at that point its how we know she has a fever it happens quickly
my daughter has these the first one happened days after she turned 2...my husb was with her we didnt know anything he thought she was gonna choke on her tongue so someone stuck a spoon in her mouth..its very scary but then we found out what it really was it seems
to happen when her fever gets to 102 and they said it was hereditary. my mom said i has 1 at the age of one ant doctors say it goes away by
my 13 mth old son ad his 1st seizure whilst out shopping i was so scared i thought he was dying lucky 4 us there was a nurse in the building and she took ova i was frozen but i know now i av 2 b calm 4 my son thank u 4 this video xx
me 12 mth old son had his 1st febrile convulsion yesterday whilst we were out shoppin i was so scared i thought he was dying but watching this has made me realise i av 2 stay calm 4 my son thank you xx
stop the vaccines, people. look up Andrew Moulden a Neurologist on Youtube. Especially see a great lecture in Canada, look on you tube for his name and Liberte
I know how you feel. That was the scariest thing I ever saw too with my daughter. I tried to stay calm but that is so hard to do when your baby is having seizure. My baby girl was about a year old and teething a lot of teeth. We could not let her sleep a lone for about a week after. The more I fought her fever the more it raised for day after it happened. My secount baby girl is getting to that age now and starting to cut teeth now to and I'm scared it might happen to her too.
We didn't know what he had at the time, but a day or two after this he started having a sore throat and it ended up being Hand, Foot and Mouth disease.
Thank you for posting this as it's nice to know A) you're not alone B) you can and should remain calm in this situation. My baby girl experienced this type of seizure due to a common ear infection several days ago.
This was, without a doubt, the most traumatizing event in my 2 years as a parent. My little lady had diffuculty breathing and was unconscious for a solid 30 minutes. I thank God for such amazing EMTs. They were extremely fast and knew exactly what to do.

Gosh I used to have Febrile Convulsions when i was a child (i'm 30 now) but they stopped when i got to about 4 years old. One of my first memories is of my Dad stroking my head and the hum of a fan nearby. Bless this little guy in the video, it does get better.

Poor little child :(
Our 16 months old boy had this last night.

2010razi 1 year ago

Febrile seizures are very common in small children 3 and under.
dravet07 2 months ago

I think it's so important to share this as so many other parents are going through the same thing, it also helps people understand and not feel alone. I think it's important for people like me to know how to react if this happened in a session or even worse in the swimming pool.

mirra143 1 year ago
@mirra143 Wow, great example of why not to take medical advice from people who cannot punctuate. Most childhood seizures do NOT cause permanent neurological damage and you should not panic and start shoving pulls in your child's rectum. They should be evaluated by an doctor and if there are serious problems they can be treated with many different drugs (of which Valium is not one!). Don't give a child prescription drugs, you could seriously hurt them and end up in prison.

@rsaeed Most febrile seizures occur because of a sudden spike in body temperature, and most occur during the first day of a fever. But a febrile seizure may also develop as the fever is declining.

Fine since.

Both of my litte sisters have those.. but they are deaf and blind.
There Febrile Seizure lasts for 20 mins... but luckly they never stop breathing.

Hope your son is doing fine now.
We should face the fact and not hide.. Create an awareness is good so that people wont judge us (epileptic) the wrong way.
I had febrile seizure when i was a kid and i never know how its like..
I've seen a friend of mine having her seizure but was told its of a different kind.
I think its an eye opener. Thank you for uploading.
Wish all the best for your son.

hi honorablesushi, i just wanted to say that i looked up your video after taking an infant and child first aid class (our daughter is 3 mos) and being advised by the instructor to search febrile seizures on youtube so that we will recognize it if it happens to our daughter.

MsJoncho 1 year ago
@MsJoncho, I see where you are coming from, but no, it's not quite the same. I think this is part of the HUGE stigma/misconceptions that people have about seizures. I have been an epileptic since the age of 9. I think it is scarier to watch/witness than to experience. I also think that since it appears to be such a scary thing to witness, it remains so misunderstood. A seizure is not a death sentence. Seeing it happen can prepare you for (God forbid) future episodes. I wish more ppl understood.
naijagirl2009 1 year ago
@naijagirl2009 oh yeah I know what you mean I know about this stuff. I'm trained for cpr, first aid, and aed but ive never witnessed a seisure or something serious like a heart attack so i quess it's freaky for me to see people so confortable with it. I guess seeing the baby like that freaks me out even though the what he's experiencing poses no danger.
MsJoncho 1 year ago
@MsJoncho you know health emergency measures...well then that's great! if you are ever in a situation in which u see someone experiencing a seizure, at least you know what to do. :) don't freak out, the same way you wouldn't if you're doing cpr. Seizures involve a loss of control over one's body; the person doesn't necessarily feel any pain, if that makes it less scary for you. What scared me as a child was not the seizures, but seeing my parents freak out. even if you dont feel calm, fake it!
naijagirl2009 1 year ago
i dont believe the parents post this to show the pain their child is going through but i think more for a educational purpose.

I don't understand why you would post your childs suffering.
honorablesushi 1 year ago

@honorablesushi i think they have done a great thing by putting it here. because a lot of people like me who dont know what it is like to have febrile seizure will benifit from it. i mean my daughter got this yesterday and i couldnt describe the condition to the doctor until the doctor gave me the name for this medical problem. i was searching it on internet and was directed to this video. t

RachelMLinn 1 year ago

I CAN BE A FULL PART IN HER LIFE-HER SEIZURES HAPPEN ANY TIME

despite what you think the posters reason for uploading the video is, as an EMT, people posting videos like this on youtube benefit me and other emts and medical professionals in seeing the different stages of seizures and for ones who have never seen an actual seizure, to actually see what the different types of seizures look like.

@honorablesushi I wanted to respond to make you realize how parents like this can help other parents. My daughter had what I believe to be a seizure a couple of weeks ago.Because it was short lived every doctor I have talked to tells me to wait for the next one. This is unacceptable to me but I understand their barriers.I have been doing research and came across this video.I was able to rule out this type of seizure thanks to this video and the caring family behind it.
sdmanup 10 months ago
@honorablesushi Did your Neurologist not suggest filming your children's seizures for correct diagnosis?
Neurologists suggest filming as people tend to not be able to seize on demand, and spending months in hospital waiting for one is not feasible. I cant believe you don't know this!!!
Also youtube is among many things an education tool, if you don't like watching these images, simply dont.

It only very rarely causes lasting effects, and to be honest, you dont know what you are talking about.
Febrile convulsions are actually caused by a changing in a temperature, so it is this point that the seizure is liking to occur, not with a spike.
Just get your facts right beofre you try and frighten perfectly capable parents.

@rsaeed Please give your credentials, since few working MDs have time to be on YT.Check your local ERs for what they do! Is it Munchausen's by Proxy that they continue to have their ill children (2) on YT

My baby girl was about a year old and teething a lot of teeth. We could not let her sleep a lone for about a week after. The more I fought her fever the more it raised for day after it happened. My secount baby girl is getting to that age now and starting to cut teeth now to and I'm scared it might happen to her too.
