Well, if you consider the theme of the show, it's people who have done BAD things, and these people are from ALL walks of life. So if you consider a character from the middle east, who has a checkered past, Saeed fits perfectly into LOST's scheme. Now, if the show was full of good people from around the globe, and he's the only one with a checkered past, then yes - this show would then be stereotyping.

The actor that plays Saeed is Indian (Naveen Andrews) They probably made him have that past so that he can help protect people.Yes his character is a good guy and was forced to be a guard in Iraq. Omar Sharif is an arab and he is in many films. He is not portrayed as a bad arab. He is in a recent film Hidalgo.Also I like that you dont judge arabs and muslims.
