Good list, Aside from the obvious classics, I had difficultly getting into most of the Shaw films. I find myself liking their films in the medieval/ancient settings. I'm in agreement that the venom films, generally, are the better ones in the Shaw Bros library. My top pick would probably be Masked Avengers, it was a blood bath. By the way, nice touch of music at 5:40, since these films are universally dark, when that track kicks in its usually a fun and memorable moment in a Shaw film.
How the bloody ell did i miss this vid??? Great picks Dom! Theres a few in there that id have in my top ten. I sold most of my IVL DVDs last year when i was skint so ive been slowly picking up the R1 DVDs. Ill try and cobble a vid response together though. :)
@wildzerouk Thanks a lot, Mark! That would be awesome if you'd really come up with a vid response. I was really hoping for some, but there don't seem to be many SB-fans in the community.
A new LFD video!! WOOHOO!! Good times. Man, that is some list. My lack of Shaw exposure really demonstrated itself today. Well, at least I have things to shoot for thanks to this video! Hey man, what was that song playing in the background during the last few DVD's? Awesome. Hope to see more videos from you! You've been missed! Love the credits. :)
@XtroTheMutilator Thanks a lot, sir! Like I said I'm far from being a Shaw expert and I've seen many that I couldn't get into, but the ones I enjoy I really love. I hope you got some recommendations . Let me know what you think of them if you get some of these here that you haven't seen before. The songs are from a CD called Fraybreakers presents Music from the Shaw Bros Movies. Sorry, don't remember the name of the song.
Awesome top ten man. It has been quite awhile since I have kicked back and watched some Shaw Brothers fun, but your video has definitely put me in the mood.
I hope that you do more vids very soon.
Be well, stay safe, and have an AWESOME weekend. ~Tim
PS - Freakin' fantastic opening credits to your video. Lol ;-)
Nice video, man! I recently gotten into Shaw Bros, so I guess you can say I'm a Shaw Bros. virgin. I only have 36 Chambers, Invisible Shaolin, Life Gamble, King Boxer, and Shaolin Price. Chinese Boxer sounds wicked, so I can't wait to pick it up and I highly recommend you to see King Boxer.
@TylerPreston20 Thanks! Deffo check out "Chinese Boxer", you'll love it. I do have "King Boxer" and it almost made my Top 10, but I decided to go with "Executioners from Shaolin" instead. It's a great classic too of course.
Love the Shaw Brothers productions & have a large selection of the wonderful Celestial label releases. Have you not seen the Chor Yuen Directed classics Killer Clans, Clans Of Intrigue or The Magic Blade ?. At least one of these should be in everyone's top ten ! ;) . For surreal horror / Action Human Lanterns is very hard to match. Great to see some Shaw Brothers love. Thanks for sharing :) .
@buckaroobanzai No, actually I haven't seen any of the Yuen-films you mentioned. Thank you for those titles, will see into them.
I do have "Human Lanterns". I enjoyed it quiet a bit, but I liked "Boxer's Omen" a lot more somehow. You're right, I should have mentioned it along with "Black Magic".
@LiveFastDiarrhea No problem at all. Always enjoy seeing people's take on The Shaw Brothers. Such a vast & great array of movies in their teriffic stable. Definitely check out all of those Chor Yuen movies. I look forward to hearing at a later date what you think :) .
@LiveFastDiarrhea i thought at the end of the blog you said which martial arts movies you liked ok then for shaw brothers i like my favorite auntie the masters and crippled trilogy, flying guillotine, one armed swordsman
I grew up from this Era of Shaws..great Stories and it is still is..Great !
