  • easily the most wrong tutorial of this song, not being rude, just some constructive criticism !

  • thx for sharing! =D =D =D =D love ur teach!

  • Now I know that John Mayer left Thumb are strong

  • Nice video man

  • thank you so much for posting this, I love playing guitar and can't have lessons so seriously thanks, they're great this is my favourite song at the moment and I was scared to even try it cos it sounds so complicated but I'm doing it. :) :) :)

  • Hi where can a girl find a guy like you? omg so amazing (and a fantastic tab btw :))

  • Thank you so much.

  • Excellent job! I have learned the song because of this!

  • thx

  • dude after it goes to "So I don't think i'm gonna go to LA anymore" it doesn't go back to that bit again he does something else its like when he's singing ohhhh ohhhh ohhhh ohhhh and its like ding ding ding dinng, ding ding ding, ?!?!?!

  • just a warning, be really careful with the tuning, i've broke like 6 strings or so... ;)

thumbs ups so people can see!

  • My thumbs hurts :(

  • @pannell325 I don't have the tabs, I'm sorry. But practice, practice, practice, and then you won't need to watch the tutorial anymore!

  • @Totar95 You're welcome! Glad to help!

  • @DonnaFirsty Glad I could help! And you're right about the "Wherever I go" part -- I learned that after posting the video. Good luck with the song!

  • @justinw7a1 It won't let me link the URL here, but he starts playing it at the 4:30 mark on the video titled "John Mayer - In Your Atmosphere(Live in LA) [High Def!]" Just search that and you should find it.

  • @Dennis450D Very happy to hear -- you're very welcome! It is indeed a wonderful song to play!

  • @oneofthefew100 Can you try using your pinky instead of your ring finger? That may work. If not, you could try using your pinky in combination with a "bar" technique instead of using your thumb -- that is, playing the top 2-3 strings with just one finger (your index finger). While the third string down should be open, you may have to press it down if you're using this "bar" technique. That's fine -- it shouldn't make too noticeable of a difference.

  • i've been playing this song for three days straight now haha

  • awesome job :) big help! Now I'll learn it

  • fuck my thumb hurts

  • Nice explanation ; )

  • Stop saying sorry!!

  • This, combined with the where the light is performance, taught me the song very quickly. Thank you for this video, a wonderful song to play :)

  • Is there a wherever you go video, specifically for that part?

  • good fuckin video

  • rightest :L

  • Hey thank you so much! This may be beyond my ability level right now, but it definitely gives me something to strive towards. This is one of my favorite JM songs, and I'd love to be able to play it. I'll work on it, with your help. The outtro, in case no one has said this yet, is not actually a part of "Atmosphere." It was more the intro/seque into the next song, which is "Where ever I go... whatever I do... etc."

  • lol I tried figuring this out in standard tuning... almost died of frustration (trying to play the bass notes with the melody). Thank you!

  • How can you tune that high without breaking your d string ?

  • @Totar95 he's only tuning it up to E.. It won't break, unless your string has been rusting for a while or something.

  • @AustinSendek

What can I say other than T H A N K Y O U ! You (in my opinion) nailed this tutorial ! The outro was the main part I was looking for and you made it sound quite right. I'll try to play along to the "Where the LIght Is" Concert. Thanks again :D

  • haha "the rightest version." :)

but thank you this really helped!

  • Do you have a link to the tablature for this? You have a great tutorial but I can't always watch it when I want to play

  • eather your guitar is our of tune or my tuner is screwed up... Eather way you are awesome! Thank u for this!

  • @jonbajet dbarlett7 is right. There should be an annotation on the screen at 2:35 to link you to a video of me correcting that part.

  • @AustinSendek Alright, girl with small hands inquiring about the last half of the verse. My ring finger will absolutely not reach to the 9th fret of the G string if my thumb is on the top E & A on the 7th fret...without pressing on incorrect strings in the process. I can handle the 9th fret/10th fret business if I use three fingers instead of my thumb, but I can't reach when there is a bigger gap. Any ideas other than a torture device to lengthen my fingers??

  • @jonbajet It's because you supposed to hammer on the D and G strings and then the D and B string in the second part

  • How come when i watch other covers the intro looks different than yours?

  • damn my thumbs hurts :(

  • fuck..... i just broke my string while trying to tune F#

  • my thumbs are dying

  • please tab this out and post it somewhere!

  • Veeeeeeery good!

  • your aweeessommee thanks so much!

  • True story. I realized that like an hour after I posted the comment. I found your video very helpful, by the way. I just got the song down after about 2 weeks of practice. Thanks broski :)

  • <3 awesome tut , gna cover this soon =P thanks!!!

  • you don't need to apologize for your mistakes. you're good!

  • less talk more show

  • The tuning you are using is called open E. This song can be played in open D also :)

  • @MrKyleCorn

not exactly Open E, its a variant of it, Open E uses a G# instead of an F# in most cases

  • Dude! great tuto! nice singing too!

when i have some time im gonna record this song

    txs a lot!

  • thank you so much man u are awesome!

  • thanks a lot for this video! even if it's not 100% correct it's pretty damn good. sounds very similar to me at least!

by the way, the last part is like this. four chord that are repeated in series. only the bass note changes from B to G# to D# to E:

    x0254x (6th to first string)

    4x254x

    x4254x

    0x254x

  • Dude awesome vid man!! :)

  • Thank you very much for the effort, it was a great lesson! :)

  • great job thanks

  • Fundamentally wrong on the intro.

It's open 3rd string, open 4th string, hammer on 4th string 7th fret, open 3rd string, hammer on 3rd string 9th fret, pull off to 3rd string 7th fret.

  • @jaykaybi (and then next time round do the same pattern with the higher string)

  • @jaykaybi Fuck off fag

  • I want to tune my guitar so but i don't no how :l

  • I bet this guy gets free 409 for life now

  • Good tutorial.

I would say it's awkward using the thumb, and rather normal using the first and second finger. If you keep using your thumb that way you will - over time - damage your wrist.

  • @koppen123 John manages to use his thumb a lot. he doesn't seem injured as far as I can see...

  • @malkdk I'm only presenting what might become a medical issue for him -- What you think and visually observe lacks a great amount of empiricism.

  • Seriously such a helpful tutorial. Not 100% accurate, but pretty dang close! Thank you so much man.

  • Can you show a tutorial on the tuning

  • awesome!!!!

  • nice work man, great song.

  • wow dude i literally looked this up and in less than an hour i could play it just like i heard it. fantastic job dude keep it up!

  • Man, thank you sooo Much! You made this seeming extermly hard song in to something super simple just cause you are so good at explaining it. thank you so much i'm subscribing

  • Such a beautiful tone to your voice, speaking and singing. Keep up the great work, and thank you for the tutorial :-)

  • On the intro: After you pluck the harmonics and then thumb the e string, do a hammer on with the index finger after the first two open string plucks. You do four open plucks and then a hammer on with the ring finger, which is harder and doesn't sound right. Your chord explanation after the intro is great though.

  • Thank you!!! Grazie! :)

  • thanks alot.

in the chorus he doesn't move to the A-chord, just stays on the G# chord while "cause i'd die if i saw you"

  • Thank u !!!___from Brazil ;)____

  • Thank u !!! ___from Italy ;) _____

  • Thanks a lot for this video. it was the best tutorial on youtube for me. Great song too.
