This reminds me of my summers in the 80's. My dad - washing his car, and me washing my bicycle (Huffy), like it was a car. Amour all on plastic peddles.....not a good idea. Yeah.... I was a cute little boy, just not very smart. ;)
the 70s is usually my main stay when it comes to my favortie musical genres, but Soul/R&B is the only one where i cant put a favorite time period on. 70s,80s, or 90s.
I remember loving Sharon Bryant's voice and this song immediately back when I first heard it in the early 80's, it still sounds great. She did have a hint of Chaka in her singing and since Chaka has always been my all time favorite R&B singer, I thought Sharon Bryant was quite a talent. Loved watching the drama of the group on Unsung.
I didn't "Unsung" to tell me how great they were or how much I like Sharon Bryant's voice. Still, its a great series to watch. Must see for anyone that has a budding music career.
This is awsome, you don'thear that special sound in a voice anymore, all you hear is crap for rihanna and nicki minaj and beyonce, this is the way a song should be performed,
@JerzeeGrind ..isn't that funny? me too. It just brought back memories of when R&B was real music, and had SOUL. I've been on YouTube going through AS songs and created a playlist. Discovered some other great R&B songs from the 70's and 80's. Barbara Weather and Sharon Bryant were the best female singers they ever had. TVOne should have a special show for old school music of the 70's and 80's featuring some of our artists the music shows seem to have pushed aside.
{ i remember growing up in the middle portion of georgia + the nearby community store would be blasting this song + all of atlantic starr's jams out of the jukebox throughout the hood. this was classic music + i loved growing up in the 8Os. it had some of the best music that you will never get back. }
One of my ALL TIME FAV's! Even though I was just a girl I knew that When Love Calls this is a very strong feeling and I hoped that when I became a woman this is what I would love to be able to express to the man I loved one day. Saying that I will have to let my husband know this is what I want him to know about how I feel about him.
YES!!!!! When Love Calls!!! My favorite Atlantic Starr hit! Sharon sing that song baby!!!!! Suprise someone hasnt remade this? Mary J had a sample on one of her albums.
This song is a classic in my book. I have always loved it. I saw Atlantic Starr on Unsung. I really enjoyed it. The Lewis brothers are some low-down, cutthroat brothers. What a shame. It doesn't matter. They will reap what they sow. That's a given.
@babydoll629 ..I'm glad that after David Lewis left the industry to do ministry asked Barbara Weathers for forgiveness. Maybe the other 2 brothers will follow suit. You should leave this world with something you did toward someone else. You don't have to be like their brother to forgive. I think they already were reaping when the 2 girls left. The group lost some of their fan base and record sales.
i haven't heard this song until Unsing. Sharon Bryant nailed this song. also the video clip of this song .This is MUSIC, not like this mess they're playing today..
"TRUE LOVE IS SO HARD TO COME BY---IT'S PRECIOUS AND IT'S RARE---BUT I'VE GOT---A LOT OF IT TO GIVE---DON'T MISS OUT---DON'T YOU DARE"
This group always sung lyrics that made sense and had a meaning to it. They made their biggest hits with Sharon Bryant. Too bad those Lewis brothas got the "big head" and let their egos get in the way. They could have had longevity in their careers and been considered as legends! But they still get madd props for creating beautiful music!!!
I can say it, Unsung. Love the episode on Atlantic Starr. I don't they were underrated, in my opinion one of the best R&B soul groups of all time. I Must be Dreaming, Circles, Secret Lovers, When Love Calls, Let's Get Closer. Although I agree Sharon was the best, the group kept filling in the missing pieces and moving forward. Their struggles are so typical but their music is special.
This was the first record I ever bought for myself in 1980 when I got my first real record player at age 5! I loved this tune even then before I understood what it was about. Lol. Great tune.
Always loved their music and wished they had bigger commercial success. While their struggles were typical (money, management, some taking the spotlight, etc.) there was something haunting about their story and I don't think I'll ever listen to their music the same way again. Seems like they did themselves in in a cruel way -- arrogance, sexism, greed, etc.The Lewis brothers don't seem apologetic, with the exception of David. And that "business manager" was disgraceful and cold. Not good...
Loved Atlantic Starr -- a truly talented group. Sorry to hear about the internal fractiousness that plagued the group in addition to shenigans inherent in themusic industry. But hey, everyone is still alive which is a good thing.
I loved the episode so much. When the songs were being recalled it made me realize how talented they are. Even today as well as a child they have a way of enchanting me with their music. They were very versatile and i liked all the formulas they used, being with a duo or any of the brothers or female singer singing solos. They were great!
Though Sharon Bryant the first in a revolving door of female vocalists for Atlantic star, she was; by far, the very best. Her voice is pure, perfectly clear, sexy, strong... beautiful.
Sharon Bryant, in my opinion, was the best female vocalist for Atlantic Starr. Barbara Weathers was good, but Sharon had that fire. Can't wait to see Unsung on them tonight.
@wlsn11359 I enjoyed it. I was shocked about some of the things that went on, but they will always be one of my favorites. I listen to them on a daily basis. I just wish they could have kept it together.
@crob1976 I think everyone who is a fan of Atlantic Starr was waiting to see the "Unsung" episode. I too was shocked at the things that went on. I am a big fan of the "Quiet Storm" radio format (96.3 WHUR Washington, DC- the originators of the format). Atlantic Starr's ballads are a favorite.
@crob1976 Man I was sayin da same thing. Love Barbara Weathers but Sharon Bryant(the Lewis Bros cuz), SANG! Her range was da best. They should've never let her leave the group. I bet she can still blow.
Now this is the way you sing a song. There are highs and lows and each note is in tune. The song is sexy, seductive and soulful and to think she sung this song with all her clothes on. Maybe Beyonce, Rihanna and the rest should try singing fully clothed; maybe the results would be better.
u should hear her sister denise 2 voices 2 die 4, if i'm not mistaken denise found God and sings if at all, 4 God most beautiful family u would ever want 2 know. SALAM!
I wonder what would a time-capsule, dream duet between Sharon Bryant and Maxwell be like? Those powerful, crystal clear resonant voices... hmm. That might be too much for my heart to take.
Atlantic Starr, I loved you guys then and today. I would love to see you again, get back on the road guys. People want to see you and Atlanta is waiting.
i wish they would update alot of the old skool albums bcuz there were alot of other songs on these albums that may not have been as popular but are just as good, you miss out with the best of albums

Like I have said before, there aren't too many soundtracts/albums exists whos every song is a total hit! I liked Atlantic Starr's album " Brilliance " every sonce 1982. Sharon Bryant's vocals are excellant and soulful! Thanks Atlantic Starr for all those beautiful songs and lyrics!

It seems like back in the day amongst music artists they had standards. You couldn't come whack on track like Beyonce and the rest that's out nowadays. Plus, the R&B and soul heads wasn't haven't that nonsense. Either you could sang or can't.
@misababy Can't wait. I swear, the best documentary series EVER. These 80's legends bring back memories of my aunties making me DJ their basement jams and diggin' in my parents crates for vinyl records of Luther Vandross, Jeffrey Osborne, Midnight Starr, Atlantic Starr, Patrice Rushen, Gap Band, etc. Woo... memories of my childhood... gimme chills.
This is one I have heard and FORGOT about but this is MOST DEF up there with my fave AS songs. Sharon Bryant goes hard. She just GETS IT! She annihilates EVERY song she touches. This is more than a classic, it is a time capsule. Feel like going to the skating rink and can't skate. lol I am waiting for a banging band to come out for the young people.... 18 and I love Atlantic Starr. One of my fave group of all time.
Really has a special place in my heart this track. Production, singing, musicianship are all 'A1'. This is creme de la creme music. Very special. This music will never come again. 10/10.
no dislikes so far? great, we're still batting a thousand with this classy cut!!! Lord, where in the world is sharon bryant with her beautiful, sexy, classy voice? give me some atlantic starr all day, any night!!! old school, baby, old school!!!
woooooooooooooo! I certainly remember how life wuz in theez dayzzzzzz!. I wouldn't trade it for nothin in the world. Real music! Ohhh, but it truly wasssssssssssssz!
woooooooooooooooo! Very powerful and heart touching song. I certain remember theez dayzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Life truly had a meaning. Gave you something to live for. It just wasn't like it is today.
This is the best of the best. I wish the kids now a days could hear this perfection. We need to bring this kind of groove back. The music these days are poisoning our children.
This one was so good, the infectious groove, the bass line, the melody, the harmonious and soulful vocals, 80's R&B didn't come much smoother than this, classic sounds from an outstanding R&B band, hands down...
I just heard this song for the first time last night on a radio show. Always liked most of Atlantic Starr's music. Before hearing this my favorite Atlantic Starr song was Second to None but it's number 2 now. lol
Mannnnnn...... I'm telling you. Atlantic Starr was one of the best groups around EVER. They have a slew of hits. I wish they still made music like this today.
What a great song. Sharon Bryand delivers penomenal vocals as always. This is a 'grown folks' song. I'm sorry, but anyone under age 36 simply would not understand.
30 years old and still quality. Lyrics, tune everything. And whats best about this type of classic is you could dance with someone "two steppin'" or boogie on your own. Real lovers party music. Too bad they dont make 'em like this for this generation. Might promote more love and less hate. Classic.....
@GGS06SM I agree, guys were always bad with emotions so we'd play a song like this .... call the lady up and let the song do the talking .. smh & lmao
No talented singers these days anymore? I tend to disagree. Those soulful voices would just rather be found in vocal house projects these days. Simply because they don't want to get talked at in a somewhat nasty way that their music would sound as if it was made in '81. Hence, facts are that they're not gone, just moved over to other musical genres/styles.

The one thing we can all agree upon here.
You'll never have to worry about Beyonce ever singing anything of this calibur.
But then again that's unfair of me Sharon Bryant is a Real Vocalist singing a Real Song.
I apologize.

@dienglee I have to disagree with you I am 3 years your junior and I have always had a great appreciation for this group.

I'm sorry, but anyone under age 36 simply would not understand.
dienglee 1 year ago 3
@dienglee Well that's just wrong! I'm 26 and I'm grooving to this right here! Don't act like that.

30 years old and still quality. Lyrics, tune everything. And whats best about this type of classic is you could dance with someone "two steppin'" or boogie on your own. Real lovers party music. Too bad they dont make 'em like this for this generation. Might promote more love and less hate. Classic.....
