  • I think that the thing that you didint know what it was is a thing so you can put it on your belt

  • That loop thing is so u can put it on a tac vest

  • what made you choose the tanto blade over the other "bowie" design

  • @italianbroker1

    Nothing, I own both :)

  • @italianbroker1 For the most part if you plan an stabbing something the tanto is a better design because of its shape. It causes the knife to have a sturdier point that penetrates better.

  • That plastic tab would be where you could fit it onto your web gear if you were wearing a tac vest.

  • i think its for molle

  • How much do these cost?

  • Dang it i really wish they had a straight edge version still. Btw get it on amazon. It's only $53 and free shipping

  • 2:01 i think if you have a tactical vest that's were you would put it,idk just saying.

  • The thing that you dnt know what it is, its a belt loop. Hook it through your belt.

  • I want to stab a hog with mine

  • @fappometer14 where do you huny hogs at? I live in Fl good hunting here hogs anyway.

  • @GTILOUD Im in nebraska, i wish i could

  • I'd rather have the short, have to many large knives. Great review. Also, you should be able to take a strap off or two. I did it with my CRKT M60 knife sheath.

  • @somedirtyangel the miniature is better for concealing ;)

  • @shawny142 Oh for sure. Almost bought one of those little suckers, but their a bit pricey. Maybe soon.

  • @somedirtyangel not really. Its the same price as the Large one

  • @shawny142 Well I can get them for around $40.00, might go with the tanto. Though, I really want a SEAL Pup or Elite first.

  • @somedirtyangel All of those are Amazing Knives. It's now up to you to choose.

  • @shawny142 Right, with so many great knives out there for sure. Though, in the mean time I have my CRKT M60 and Cold Steel SRK. :)

  • I have owned on of these for 2 years. Its one of the best fixed blades I have ever had, and I take it anytime I go into the woods or go camping. If you are thinking about buying this you wont be disappointed.

  • I don't know whether to get the long on or the short one... they both look so nice!

  • I was going to buy the Ka-Bar large heavy bowie, but I decided to get this instead. Mainly because it was made in the U.S....the bowie has "made in Taiwan" stamped on it.

  • wow, 3.5 years later and they still sell for 60.00 usd!! Great value fighter!

  • nice review, im gonna make a tanto style knife of my own.

  • great review. blade is 8" and i bought mine new for 50 bucks. keep up the good work

and also the short tanto is $40 from the same place. and its 5 1/4" blade.

  • i noticed you had a cut on your thumb what is that from 0.o?

  • @fredfan2345

Lol, yeah... i had cut my thumb on my Kershaw Leek X]

  • @sherman614 Funny, I cut the hell out of my index finger on a Leek once. They are crazy sharp.

  • @sherman614 Thats a damn good knife.

  • the plastic piece on the top, that you asked about, is to drop the knife down to your thy instead of on the belt. you would need the attachments though. hope that helps. good vid.

  • I love your reviews dude. Even on crap knives. Informative, accurate, not verbose, good voice. FWIW....

  • How the hell do want to strap that to your boot

  • the extra straps are to make it jump proof now you know

  • Great Knife... i got one, Its purely designed for killing...but the edge seams to rust easily...

  • @merc666ify

Yes, it is. And yeah you have to keep some oil on it to fix that

  • I think that that thing that you don't know what it is is a thingy for your belt...

  • Great review! My older brother has this knife, and I have a Cold Steel Recon Tanto :D

In my opinion, I think that the Ka-Bar 1245 (Your type) is the coolest knife in the world! :D

  • I really prefer the ka-bar short utility it works the best for me, great review rock on man

  • I got the 2050 model.

I didn't want the serrations, they usually get hung up, and if I ever need to use it in a self defense situation, It could get caught in the person, allowing them an opportunity to kill you. :)

  • @DopeyBovineMan if your stabbing it that far into them, their probably dead.

  • when i got mine in august it wasnt sharp... the tip was great but the entire blade was not sharp at all, it did have an edge but nothing worthwhile... and the loop you said you didnt know what it was you run your belt through it so it can hang by your side

  • just got mine today.great knife, razor sharp and kydex sheath is great.

  • i bought this recently through a military surplus store... i tried the paper cutting test where you hold the paper with the thin edge facing the blade and trying to slice through it... it isnt all that sharp, unless i got one where they didnt sharpen it to much...

  • I own the Ka-Bar leather handled tanto. It has a shorter 7-inch blade and no serrations. Also the grind starts a bit higher on the blade, which I like.

  • @whitethronebooks I've been looking for a Ka-Bar excactly like that, where did you buy it?

  • @zarbar123456789 I got my leather Tanto on eBay. It's KA-BAR model 1264. You can also get it on Amazon. I stripped the black coating on mine. It looks like a war knife now. :)

  • the two snaps are there so that it could be air dive certified

  • You can buy the knife online for less than $15. I am not sure of the quality.

  • @ImmortalAcorn Noo... you cant buy a kabar for $15 online. Those are called knock-offs.

  • @grossed83 It's a knife that cuts, so I don't really care. :D

  • i really really want a Ka-Bar fixed blade, but what one would you suggest for camping? because i like the looks of this one and the serrated would definitely come in handy.

  • @Maht25

A ka bar large heavy bowie. 9 inch blade, straight edge, but it weighs less than a pound somehow. it's avilable at impactguns for 60, but i think somewhere around 45 at yourcornerstore. i like impactguns more than yourcornerstore for some reason.

  • @Maht25

it also comes in a 7 inch version if you want it smaller, ka bar's serial number for it is 1276.

    9 inch version is 1277.

  • @DIYOutdoorsmen well, i just ordered a Cold Steel Recon Tanto.

  • is this knife good for survival as well as combat?

  • Great review! Thanks!

  • raper

  • I believe the additional loop in the belt loop is a connector to add an extended strap so it hang on your thigh rather than your hip. I say that function on a CRKT fixed blade

  • snaps are there so faggots don't come behind ans take the knife off of you. Its like those gun fag bags, The clips can be easily take off, youll have the knife out in time.

  • @Spartan9567 ur wrong, the snaps are there so that KA-BAR could have it approved for air deployment

  • @HPIracing111 ok, lol, you learn something new every day

  • Its an 8" blade, the traditional KA BAR fighting blade is only a 7" blade. I want one without the serrations.

  • Thanks for the great review, i am planning on getting one...Eli

  • u suck

  • i like this tanto blade better than cs one as it has a much better guard.

  • Im stuck between the Ka-bar tanto and the Recon tanto (both are looking good)

I want a robust, high quality survival/combat knife that last long.

    which one do you recommend?

    (recon tanto or ka-bar tanto?)

    (feel free to reply, anyone)

  • @cxkh they are both good knifes but cs tanto is more expensive but thicker blade.

  • @cxkh KABAR tanto short , i got one and it is awesome, razor sharp and the blade has awesome edge retention.

  • do knives fall out of kydex sheaths more easily, the more you use the sheath?

  • does it come with no serrations too?

  • harnesses, braces...:)

  • Is that 20cm?

  • Those holes and that is to attach the knife to special pants or jackets or anyother so are the one at the top :P

  • Its 1995 High carbon steel. 20cm blade

  • this isnt used in the miltary

  • @VTxHOKIESxFAN This knife is strong and good quality its often used as a small backup weapon for the U.S Marines and sometimes in the military

  • @TheCROSSFIRE09 no, thats the USMC KA-BAR.

  • is the tanto blade longer than the clip shape? it looks like it.

    kk thanks

  • It is an inch longer.

  • Tawn-toe

  • Comment removed

  • try the video response with the knife lol

  • and the price

  • its a good knife, but mine didn't come razor sharp. all my other ka bar knifes are razor sharp but tanto blade is not. tantos are mostly angled at 25 to 30 degrees

this knife is the only knife that I cant shave with.

  • it has the two snaps because they wanted it jump certified

  • thanks for uploading this:)

But i am still thinking about the 1220, i can't choose:/. can someone please help me out?

this is comboedged, that's cooler, but what will be a better fighting knife?

    Thanks in advance:)

  • nice review ,, I am ordering one .

  • Nice review, i have one like yours, mine is the small version with the plain edge.

  • "i lob this knife its a great knife"

  • i have a bayonnette from world war 1 . i love it a lot

  • a friend of mine has one to or it was an m1 garand bayonet we are mexicans i still dont know how the fuck such an american relic got here

  • i have A K-bar tanto ---Yes,its great --

I also have cold steel recon scout-- Also awesome, you should give it a chance !!

  • i have a few good(like, 3) flip-out pocket knifes, some old rusty swiss armies, two butterflies(one's handle needs to be fixed) but my favorite is a a large fancy bowie knife with a 9 1/4" blade thats sharp as anything...and my grandma gave it to me for christmas

  • Ive had a kabar for over ten years, used it as a roofing knife, the blade is a little dull in places but the tip is still sharp as hell.

  • Ka-Bar makes very nice knives for combat usage. I own a Ka-Bar from Nam' and its perfect. The thing you have on the knife sheath is for your belt so it can be fitted tightly to your body.

  • very nice, I'll have to add one of these to my collection. 5/5

  • hte thing on the back of the sheath is for you to put it on your belt

  • Thanks for that buying this one today ,two actually 1 for display one for use ....it'll fit nicely in my jacket XD

  • Tah-n-tow

    pronounce it like that

  • the sheath im getting is glass filled nylon

  • Comment removed

  • Uhh... it's a belt loop...

  • thx for the reveiw it really helped.

but one thing, i think ka-bar is pronounced like "kubar" not "kaybar"

    how long is that blade?

  • no its pronounced kaybar.

  • Stop typing before you hit "enter" dick head. If you don't like it don't watch it. Why don't YOU make knife reviews if your so great :]

  • look on ebay same one brand new going for about 44$ they have a shit load of them

  • Nice review, keep em coming.

    5/5

    -Metal

    Check out my channel.

  • Can someone tell me how thick this blade is?

  • On the belt, left or right will work fine for non-combat operations; cross-body or extending the arm backwards (same-side as wielding hand), you will waste time in a combat situation.

The locking mechanism on the sheath works wonders attached to a tactical vest (tie-downs needed) as you can unsnap & yank it out, blade up & in position VERY quickly.

I replaced this on my vest w/ a TDI serrated tanto KA-BAR; needed more room for pouches & I got in trouble for having a big knife in plain view.

  • that's badass, i want one. my folding knife is dull and now a crude shank...

  • buy it new from Amazon for 50 box. Great knife

  • 0:39 i know its immature but thats what she said!

  • The snaps are there to secure the knife during parachute jumps.

  • Absolutely correct JoeD; if you are not jumping tho, and you aren't gonna be pulled across a radio, blue-force tracker, PLGR and other sundry items in the middle of a HMMWV when you're injured during a firefight or stuck in a burning vehicle... then just wrap the upper strap back thru the belt loop and snap it. This will keep just one snap in play; however, the buttcap & grip WILL snag on anything if you're highly active and do not have the upper snap around the grip! I hang mine on my belt.

  • nice knife! looks like buddy messed up his thumb on his knife collection though heh

  • that is a great knife i just got mine i love it :D

  • can it be worn upside down?

  • How does this knife compare to the Cold Steel Recon Tanto knife in terms of performance? I'm planning to get either one of these. Both look very similar, aside from the serrations on the Ka-Bar. Which is better?

  • well in my life as a soldier (1 year ) the k bar that i use is really good i dont know about that knife i will chek it out and tell you

  • 8 inch blade

and buddy its not for survival its a tanto blade wich is purely w weapon design

    think about it

  • dont expect a high carbon knife to be the strongest unbreakable metal even this kabar with 1095 high carbon it isnt the strongest carbon blade but its super strong anyhow and i dont think this was made to be chopping wood up anyhow lol if your gonna use it for the right reason this knife would be more then effective even with a stainless steel blade. ps this blade can be ALOT sharper razor sharp if you resharpen it with some type of wetstone jap stones preffered it doesnt come as sharp

  • the snaps are completely nessesary. The sheath is NEVER enough. tisk tisk.

  • The dual straps are for Airborne or Seaborne Ops. The buckle atop of the sheath for the addition of a tactical extension so it can be worn on the thig.

  • damn i was gona tell him that lol yea it can be worn ont the thigh

  • I got this knife a month or so ago. Recently i sent it back to ka-bar because the edge angles were different and the false edge on the top was wavy. I asked them to replace it but when mr.mailman arrived at the facility no one was there so its sitting at the post office in olean. I really hope i get it replaced. Anyone else have this experiece? pm me if you do. Other than that, its a gorgeous, mean looking blade. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one.

  • I can't help to wonder what the designer thought when they decided to remove most of the spine.

What's the point of having a tanto point if you're going to grind it almost like a dagger

  • leather casing causes rust because it retains moisture....stay with the sheath it comes with ;)

  • Sweet! I want one of these to ..I for one like tantos :)

  • i hate that kind of point

    but its still sexy

id rather get one with a leather case thing

    looks more outlawish and original

  • Can you tell me how much it is?

  • knives like these can be deployed in a number of ways. i have several freinds who take various kabar (standard bowies not the tanto) knives out hunting and camping. they preform more than well under various conditions nature throws at them. so to that i say sweet knife man.

  • they are right though. you shouldn't call it a "review" and ask questions. makes you look dumb.

  • In short, You only got the knife cus you thought it looked cool... in your hands, it will never see action and if it does, (judging from you vast knowledge about this weapon) you'll probably end up hurting your self, not your oponent. Leave knives to the big boys

  • like yours will ever see action either. I suppose by "big boys" you mean 17? i can tell when you use words like "weapon" and "opponent" that you're probably one of those idiots that believe in the mythical "knife fight." don't get me wrong, it's better than nothing, but in a fight for you're life, it's worthless if the other guy picks up a shovel/broomhandle/rock/gun. it is simply a tool for cutting. it's only a weapon if you are looking for trouble. punk.

  • No, I mean soldiers (hooah) and mariens, an iraqi oponent, and to be blunt, it is a beautiful 'weapon' just like my m4 is a weapon. I say opponent becuse too many people get offended when you call the iraqis the enemy, so I went for generic. I also agree, against a gun, its nothing, but with body armor, and a kevlar the other three arn't that impressive.

  • And actually, I do wish that warfare was still close combat, when you had to be skilled to survive, not just luckey. When you killed, you were right there in their face, shareing their last moments, and it was an ugly thing. With the advent of fire arms, war became impersonal and much easier to rationalize. You can kill and never see their face. You don't see their pain and wonder if they had family who would mourn their passing. If warfare was still that personal, it would not be as commen.

  • yes because war with swords and obsedian wepons was not uncommon before firearms. seems to me our ancestors had no problem killing up close. if anything, the advent of firearms became a deterent to conflict. until you get those willing to abuse the powers vested in them to make war in the first place because they no nothing of war's true face.

  • Oh, and P.S. your right. A knife fight ususal only lasts a couple seconds before one or the other is dead... hopefully its them, not you.

  • Butt Cap...? ITS CALLED A POMMEL!

That thing you have no clue what its for and the "holes and slots" are for a drop leg rigging system.

The two snaps are because when you have a drop leg system, the tatical clip can acdentally disengage if you move just wrong so those snaps are there for safety.

Plus, that is no boot knife... a boot knife is one that would fit in your boot... DUH.

These other people are right. get your facts straight BEFORE you make a movie.

  • Oh and Sherman quit giving knife reviews!! They suck, you give a review with information. Not, whats is this for, why are there 2 snaps. What is this clip for. You don't have the knowledge to be doing knife reviews. Sorry buddy. You know it won't hurt to study a bit before you do a review. The at least you might sound like you have a f-ing clue about he blade ok.. Do research first then make a video review...

  • The knife is great, I own one :). But the kydex sheath is made in asia and the inside of the snap button makes scratches on the blade :(

  • I know CheaperthandirtDOTcom sells Ka Bar knives, idk about this model tho

  • lol well this is the only video I've seen of these things, I didn't know anything about them, always thought they looked sweet though. I'm not really sure what quality u will get from CTD tho so be careful if u do buy from there.

  • I just bought one today at manventureoutpostDOTcom. This model is only $52 and change plus shipping

  • Try listening dude he said he bought it at a gun show....Wanker..

  • Did he say what gun show?

No fuck tard so stfu u homo

  • Hey DICK FACE Try listen to what he says!! He paid 60 for it then he says also the mini k bar is 60. i got this one at a gun show. Fuckign retard!! Listen to the video and quit running your fat uneducated deaf mouth!!

  • Where can you get it?

  • imagine getting your balls stabbed with that?

  • WTF!? LOL

  • in the uk ka bar knifes go for like $120, i love how you said you got yours for like $60, so much for the special relationship right, $60 asshole tax for being english.

  • would you rather me get a ka bar army knife...or a tanto?

i have mony for wither one so it depends on you...

  • It depends on your use of the knife. The Tanto is unique and looks specifically designed for combat (thrusting and slashing). The KA-BAR Army or standard knifes have broader uses like outdoors, survival and combat. I prefer the Tanto because it's very attractive functional combat knife and just looks different than the standard issue. Also, the Tanto comes with a nice hard sheath.

  • actually their both about the same effective in everything, but the tanto looks cooler. However, I prefer the USMC Kabar because of its history.

  • the little peace of plaskic it for sidewayes carry on your belt

  • The thing on the back that you aren't sure about is for a drop-leg extension. So that the user may carry it on their leg attached to a tactical vest, thigh holster, or any other type of thigh rig. Personally I prefer to keep mine upside down on my tac vest. I prefer to save my thighs for a sidearm and dump pouch.

  • Hey, Just wanted to let you know why it has two snaps, It is so that the knife can be carried upside down on a MOLLE Chest rig.

  • oh also..I believe it helps for "airborne" troops so that it will not fall out on a jump

  • Great review! I just got one and love it. The "a" in tanto is pronounced like "ah" though, so it is more like tahn-toe.

  • Thank you =]

    Yeah there great knives.

And I've heard it pronounced both ways, to me it doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, i think it's just however you want to say it.

  • is this knife full tang?

    great video

  • the tang extends down to the pommel but isn't exposed around the handle. so it has a full lenghth tang but not full tang

  • iv got the srk coldsteel its looks a little similar but its also a very good knife nice knife :)

  • The dual straps might be there to make the knife and sheath jump capable for paratroopers.Just my guess why two straps might be necessary for some. Now,if KA-Bar redesigned the straps to be removable like with snap fasteners so those that dont need the straps can simply remove them.

  • beautiful work by Ka-Bar. love the Tanto blade. one of my favorites.

  • Do you think that this would be a good survival knife?

  • Which one would be more preferable when it comes to stabbing power and penetration? The normal blade or tanto blade?

  • The tanto blade. It is specifically designed for puncturing. Round blades, although can be used for puncturing, are used for slashing.

  • just use ur tanto 7 cut the top snap

    that's just what i'd do

  • which would you say would be the better knife?

The Ka Bar serrated tanto, Ka bar non serated tanto , or the Cold Steel tanto?

  • for what?

  • for utlility purposes, would it be better to get the shorter one instead of the bigger one? the big one seems kinda long for everyday use.

  • awsome knife dude,

I'd get this over cold steel's.

and that was a really good review video.

and i think that clip looking thing you pointed out around 2:00 is for a MOLLE(or something) strap to be weaved through. and the two straps around the sheath is for reassurance for paratroopers.
