@TennisAnnalyst i remember a ton of first serves that del potro smacked back for winners. basically my point is del potro did way more than enough to earn the win, and there is no way you can say that fed lost it more than dp won it. this isn't nadal picking on the backhand and relying on federer errors, this is del potro smacking the shit out of everything so don't player-hate

@demondayzzz Federer was up a set and a break, was serving for a the second set I believe. Lost sets 2 and 4 in tiebreakers. Federer was way, way, way off his best. Having said that, Del Potro didn't play his best either. He was too slow (definitely nervous) in the first set or so, but then settled in. I believe he deserved this win, but like the guy below said, if both were on A levels, Federer would win.

@davd1986 if del potro is smacking the shit out of the ball like that there is no way that fed would reach his A level unless the surface is slow and fed can reach dp's shots. also federer was red hot to start the match, and then dp's power was too much. nothing fed could do. basically it's impossible for both to be on their A+ game at the same time really, because something has to give. either dp's power is too much or fed takes dp off his game

@demondayzzz Impossible for both of THESE guys to play their A games at the same time or in general? I don't think it's impossible for both of them to play their best at the same time. Especially the way both of them can serve. Obviously Del Potro has more power and can power it past Federer, but Federer can also bring plenty of his own heat, especially if his serve is clicking. I've seen it numerous times in tennis where a match is high quality with both players at or near their best.

@davd1986 well then it would be a serve-athon. sure you can get games with fed and nadal playing at their best because nadal is so good defensively and fed all-round, but with a del po playing at his best he can hit unreturnables and winners from everywhere. also i'm a massive federer fan but he doesn't have nearly as much power as del po on serve or otherwise, even though he can hit the occasional rocket

@TennisAnnalyst that's ridiculous. dp gets a 5/5 from me for sets 2-5. how can he have not earned the win? i'm the biggest fed fan out there but he was out-hit from the 2nd set on basically, he couldn't make inroads and dp kept running around his backhand and hit a crazy winner every other point. federer couldn't deal with the pace. del potro played his best game, and he took the swiss out. stop deluding yourself, fed gave dp all the credit for the win himself

@TennisAnnalyst no, federer lost this match because he kept hitting it to the del potro forehand, even when it was on fire. missing first serves is also his fault, as well as del potro smacking the shit out of returns. plus you can't hit the amount of winners del potro did and say that he didn't take the match from fed.
