I don't think you got the horizon at the right angle. also, been thinking about 'nmm' over the last few weeks and have come to realise that it's just normal painting. How many artists do you see using metallic paints on canvas? Did Boris Vallejo ever use metallic paints? NMM is nothing special, it's just that in mini painting terms it is not the norm due to most hobbyists wanting a quick job that is passable from a distance. try painting water to look realistic - now there's a real challenge. ta
Expensive? well sure it seems like you spend a lot of cash on a quite a few small models, but check out prices for other hobbies for kids specialy in sports and you will notice that you will in general have to spend lots more cash on equipment, drivng to practice etc.. Not That I am saying sports is bad or anything but comments stating over and over again that GW products are to expensive does not realy add anything to any dicussion IMO. If you don't like them dont play the game :)
No i spoke to a GW rep here in australia and they bum the prices up at the retail stores due to the services they provide for the newer players. The main place where they make their money is from the independent retailers.
I live Australia, and well Grey Knight terminators in Australia are around $100 for 5.
Ebay I got 5 new un-opened for 60, this can hold true for paints as well, total cost for 5 terminators and the 3 falcons I got 160 or so, new cost for that 250+ in Aus.
you have a very similar painting style to mine, quick reflexive strokes, i only very occasionally miss what im aiming at and have to touch up hehe, nice work
painting layers I nearly always use extremely thin watered down layers, and even more so when painting flesh skin ect ect ect where I want want previous layers to show through. I hate painting with metallics so NMM is technic that interests me.
I found that for Ultramarines, as if you want the proper eavy metal scheme, don't use ultramarines blue and highlight from there, instead you want a mid tone of regal blue and ultramarines blue. I found that with the foundation paint morian blue, it is basically the mid tone you need and paints straight over black or white cause its thicker. OK
when you look at it, the quality of the models and the paint are so good you are actually getting a decent deal. Think of it like buying brushes.. sure the cheap ones are cheap but they suck and ruin the model you are painting
warhammer is not always that expensive i mean not if ure just starting. I mean u can buy a set with flock a brush, clippers, glue and 10 paints for $50 and a basic miniature pack for about 50 dollars i mean u can get a codex for about 30 and a rulebook for about 80 but the best way to start is to buy one of the sets like maccrage or skull pass for 80
u need an HQ and two troops at least or if ur playing with ur friends u need from 0 to wha ever. u can use all kinds of stuff as models (like a bottle could be a spacemarine tank or something) when playing with friends.
sorry but the examples dont look like metal!

Depends if you want a "lighter" or a "darker" look to your Marines.
