We're talking about a guy who participated in on of the most lethal actions the war, bombing runs over North Vietnam, in which he essential bombed schools, hospitals, and villages.

If the soldier's personal computer was spied on, obviously that's wrong, but I don't know how that would happen. If it was his/her computer at work, nothing on that computer is private. Even if he checks his e-mail there, it's subject to monitoring. A notice to that effect would have popped up every time he logged in.

I would say that heterosexual males join special forces in order to gain the attraction of heterosexual females outside the military. It is unlikely that a heterosexual male would join special forces without any having any motives related to getting a woman or impressing women in general. That said a gay male could have the same motive (to attract men) but it's unlikely.

@in3x Of course it raises questions, and reality is always more complicated than principle, but as a question of principle then if they agree to serve in the military then I don't see any problem in giving them the citizenship. And America is in lack of soldiers, it's not like they'd be taking spots from citizens, America either needs to stop some of the wars and conflicts they're involved in, or realize that they need to somehow find a source of people willing to serve.

There was a great article in Rolling Stone about John McCain called "Make-Believe Maverick". McCain is no hero and certainly deserves no respect. I am sorry that he was tortured, but the experience had little effect on him. Before torture, he was violent, ignorant, and stupid; after torture, he became insane, but his former traits remained intact. Calling McCain a hero is an insult to real heroes in U.S. history. McCain was born into privilege, married up, and remains a spoiled child.

Did you realize that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was enacted in 1993 as a way to ENABLE gays to serve in the Military? Do you understand what the "Don't Ask" part means, that people can't call out or accuse people of being gay? Sure, it was a restriction because they had to keep their sex lives private, but it wasn't this horrible oppression people have made it out to be.

@jfrsnjhnsn Until one particular soldier's computer correspondence was spied on, revealing he was gay, and was thus discharged from the military. He never told, was never asked, but his computer was illegally accessed and they used the information obtained for his expulsion. It is an oppressive rule that has been rightfully overturned.

@Tazz2006 I'm not saying that military units never violated the guidelines. Every rule gets broken at some point. I don't know about the case you're talking about. If the soldier's personal computer was spied on, obviously that's wrong, but I don't know how that would happen. If it was his/her computer at work, nothing on that computer is private. Even if he checks his e-mail there, it's subject to monitoring. A notice to that effect would have popped up every time he logged in.

. Most of the dangerous jobs such as special forces don't allow females, so I'm going to refer to gay men in this point. I would say that heterosexual males join special forces in order to gain the attraction of heterosexual females outside the military. It is unlikely that a heterosexual male would join special forces without any having any motives related to getting a woman or impressing women in general. That said a gay male could have the same motive (to attract men) but it's unlikely.
