i think grease is supposed to be "bad" because it just sits on you hair and locks moisture out...but once you have moisturised your hair really good then putting on grease afterwards can also lock the moisture in...once used the correct way you should be fine!
I think you said your name is Naomi. Mine too! ;) Your hair looks great. I'm about to put a product that is basically petroleum in my hair. i tried everything else: olive oil, coconut oil. None of that stuff does anything for my hair so I'm going back to what worked for me as a kid. GREASE! I'm glad to see others using the old tried and true.
I love this video. so funny"your antiperspirant will probably kill you first" LMBO!!! I feel that we naturals will realize that we don't have to buy natural products to get beautiful results as yours. all we need is to keep a clean scalp and hair...and we'll get growth.
about to pull out that jar of blue magic coconut hair grease....I forgot I had used it a loooong time ago. I could not remember what I used to get my twist out right. I went to the store and purchased all these products and nothing really worked, but your video helped me remember...Thank you :)
I love the way your twist outs look! Beautiful!!! I am really new to this. I have been transitioning in sew ins for the past 13 months. Now I'm all natural and like 4z to the 10th power. I only love my hair when I use water and grease too. I have been trying to stay away from the grease because of how bad it is supposed to be for us, but shoooooooot I wanna look good too. Bout to go co-wash and break out the grease. :-)
I think the end of my first message got cut off, sorry. Anyway so my question was what's the best shape to get my hair cut into so it has shape and looks good in a fro, twisted and straight? I'm a 4c with lots of shrinkage by the way :-)
Great vid, your hair cut is great. I need a hair cut myself really bad. And I've only had ONE basic trim to even out my hair out soon after my big chop over a year ago. For the trim, I had my hair flat ironed and cut which looked really nice only on straightened hair but when my hair was wet it looked kind of boxy the first few months and later it just looked like a shapeless fro. Either way I had to wet it down good and I'd pack down my hair to get it to look round. (that was before i knew how
my cousin uses hair grease on her natural hair all the time, and its sooo long, its not about the product(S) u use. its about if ur consistent on taking care or ur hair.
nothing wrong with hair grease as long as you don't put it on your scalp, it clogs the pores natural oils on your scalp and the hair grease on the hair. That works for me and it helps me retain my length.
i started using grease again and i got the most perfect twist out! i wish i could get back all of the money on all of the products i wasted money on!!
hey naomi! i would like to request a style that i would like for you to try. i recently came across xgoldn's pin coil tutorial and i would really appreciated if you tried it as i would like to see how it turns out on your hair
funny..i got some hair grease at the dollar store and it makes my hair so soft and shiny. it has mineral oil and petroleum or petrolatum.idk.all i knkow is that it works on my hair and its super cheap
I love that you use what WORKS FOR YOUR HAIR!!! so many people with natural hair are scared to use what may work for them because someone else told them it's bad for their hair.
hey i remember u were tryinto get ur hair healthy? how did u achieve that? i just recently cut about 4 inches of hair thanks to some terrible damage from a hair dresser and my lack of knowledge. i want to be more serious when it comes to my hair but after 2 yrs im still not sure what exactly my hair does and doesnt like. could u advice me on how to start. my hair texture is similar to urs and shrinks a lot..thanks
I really like the look and I will be trying it tonight! How does your hair feel? Does it feel greasy? I find that my hair will not absorb oil/grease...it just feels greasy...
This video is such an inspiration. I don't even have 4c hair lol. But I like how you decided to try something new. I think we throw away too many ideas our parents/grandparents used.
@foreseenatural u make this look easy! Although you have a 4c texture ur hair looks amazing! I am trying to put together a channel myself. Hope you check it out! I would LOVE the support from u... I am also doing a giveaway so check it out :)
@KinkyKronicles Thx! I went to a friend of mine. I live in Northern Cali. It was her first time working with afro textured hair, but she did an amazing job. I couldn't have been happier. She said she went on Youtube to get advice on what to do with my hair. It's awesome when someone is willing to put that much effort into hair like ours.
I loved your hair so much, I tried some grease in mine. I'm a fan! No product has gotten my twists this defined. Who knew all I needed was some $1.29 grease?!? Thanks for reminding me that good ol grease will get the job done. Now I have to do some research to see why petrolatum supposedly bad for your health....
@ForeseeNatural this is good news then! lol Seriously though thank you so much for all your vids. If it wasnt for your channel I would have relaxed my hair again!
@ForeseeNatural Laugh til I cry LOL! Yes, the antiperspirant will probably finish us off first. Just today I was looking into either deodorant or lemon wedges under the ol armpits. The deodorant won (this time around). LOL Great video hun.
Hey girl! This was really useful! I had tried doing twist outs with hair gel and my scalp always got so irritated so I decided to take your advice and use hair grease with water. So farm so good. Just have to untwist my hair now! Thank you! x

I'm glad I'm not the only person that hasn't given up on hair grease lol. Ive tried a bunch of natural oils, but my hair loves good old fashion hair grease lol!
That twist out is amazing- lovely ringlets. Whatever works for you, stick with it. I know many naturals don't agree with "hair grease" (and this is due to the petrolatum/mineral oil in most of these of products, which can cause dryness and breakage- this has happened to my hair, personally) but in a way, as someone here. mentioned, the mineral oil/petrolatum actually acts as a sealant for keeping moisture in. Mineral oil is like a barrier oil. So, if it works for you, just use it!!!
Your hair is so cute! I'd love to get my "grease" in your hair! Let me know if you're interested in a sample in exchange for a video product review! I'd be happy to send you something.
I too use some form of grease, but on my scalp and hair too. I use Blue Magic Castor Oil grease after I wash my hair. I generally use oils throughout the week but @ least one day it get's the grease treatment. My hair likes the heavier oils and stuff anyway. I love the way yours is shaped since you got the cut!
it's great that you found a product that most naturals consider a big no-no and it's giving you amazing results. What's funny is my the 70s my mom used to use grease and water to keep my twisted ponytails in place LOL!
@jsimm41 It holds up great. I forgot to mention in the vid, but this was the fourth day wearing this twistout. I could have left it for another day and it would have still been wearable.
Your hair looks amazing--Palmer's has a coconut hairdress that I'm pretty sure falls under the "grease" category, so I won't by shy about revisiting that this summer between my wash n gos!

@neeneneema When my hair gets really tangled or I haven't detangled in a long time, instead of getting in the shower and using condish to detangle, I detangle first using water and my shea/mango butter whip. For me, it's an amazing detangler. Lately I've been detangling with a pick or just the old school combs we all used to use. I detangle to make sure my hair doesn't lock or dread, but never with tangle free hair in mind.

Thanks you.
@achieversoul Thx! I got a professional cut. I was tired of my homemade trim sessions, so I bit the bullet. As far as products, you should play around with them until you find one that works for you. I love shea and mango butters as well. Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade works good. I'm on the simple regimen path as well. I think I might experiment with waxes too. I've never tried them.
@soursop Thx! I'm in California. But I asked for an inverted bob cut, and she knew what I was talking about. Be sure to take in a photo. You can find tons if you search Google.
I love your hair cute, so beautiful. And the grease looks great on your twist outs. Being natural allows you to do what YOU want to do with your hair and you do what works for YOU. BEAUTIFULL

Your hair looks Fabulous!! But isn't Proclaim full of petrolatum? That stuff is bad for you hon.... It's super easy to change it to something else. Have you tried Castor oil? The thing is that it's not healthy...One benefit that I had going natural, and that I loved discovering that other naturals were doing, was to stop using chemical based products that may feel great on hair but are bad for health in the long run. Just had to share :-)
YOUR HAIR LOOKS GREAT !!!!! WE ALL HAVE TO DO WHAT WORKS FOR US ......ALL OF OUR HAIR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN .....SO WE DO WHAT MAKES HER HAPPY !!!!! AND SHE LOOKS VERY HAPPY ;-)
The cut does give your hair shape! It seem like the less worried we are about our hair the more time we have to do other things and come up with other (less maintenance) alternatives to caring for our hair. I love it!
Interesting... It is probably the mineral oil and/or petrolatum in the hair grease that gives your hair the feel and look that you love. Controversial as they are about the health of your scalp... they do make the hair look and feel good for a period of time. My hair grows slower than the norm as I am an older natural so I choose not to use products with those ingredients because I don't need anything hindering my already sluggish hair growth.
