Have loved both of these poems since i was young. Laurence Binyon's verse is often heard, not so much John McCrae's. McCrae was, I believe, a medical officer working in a dug out during the battle of Ypres.
what is it about WW1 that stirs one's emotions so? It is like empathizing with those that were there. If I ever had an argument for reincarnation this would be it. The intense pathos I feel whenever I experience any WW1 site or film has to have a reason somewhere. I do not experience the same inner turmoil with WW2 sites. Anybody else get the same disturbing feeling?
its so sad when you thing about everyone that put their lives into this thinking it was just a game, and then dying, and in a way, even sadder when you think about all the vetrans that came home injured and had to live with the memories of the brutal war.. i cry when ever i hear this song..
I was born and raised in the Middle of Flanders Fields and never ever forget untill today, being 42 and living at the other side of the world 15K km away from 'Home"
Respect to our allies fighting for our freedom and might they be remembered and honored..
I'm very moved by the comments below - you are wonderful people. God bless those souls that died for us, and the ones giving their lives in wars round the world now. God bless you people below who genuinely care for them.
Every village and town(not to forget Paddington Station)has it's memorial to The Fallen, and since seeing so many, on 11 Nov, I think more of them than I ever did growing up, and being at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Day is one of the most moving things I've done when visiting the UK
thank you to all soldiers that fought in the war for our rights. You are remembered on this very day, each and every one of you. Thank you for fighting so bravely and risking your lives for our rights. We will think of you during he moment of silence at the eleventh hour and what you did for this country. Thanks to ALL soldiers
It is on today at the eleventh hour that we honor those that gave their lives for us. Who defended us so bravely. Who made Canada today possible. May god be with their resting spirits.
this is an excelent tribute to those who fell im glad that there are so many of these videos we shall not forget them

We should never forget or diminish in any way the sacrifices of the soldiers and their families. They are the reason we have the lives we now enjoy.
