I am unable to even to complete viewing the video. I am sickened. I remember when a news program first did the episode regarding Mad Cow disease - I was so freaked, way before organic beef, chicken, etc. After seeing that I never comfortable consumed beef. Over the years I guess my mind has made it impossible for me to enjoy any form of protein that had a mother. I do not miss eating this either.

I have Balinese blood, so I might have something to say. Despite the extinction of sea turtles, the religion will still go on. It doesn't revolves around slaughtering sea turtles or any other. Mountain people in Bali don't get to eat sea turtles meat anyway. I do however, opposed such tradition. Since this is a changing world, and the sea no longer hold unlimited resources. So you can't compare the eating of cows and chicken to this, as there are two rather large variables. One is that this turtle was tortured before it died, something we don't do. and two, this animal is endangered while cows and chickens are not.
Thus it is upsetting, and people do have a right to feel that way, saying its justifiable because we eat chickens and cows is a poor argument.
point being, while I don't blame these people for what they've done, it is something that should be stopped.
Just because an animal is not tourtured, it doesn't mean it didn't die a miserable and painful death, no matter what the slaughterhouse tells you. Just watch the videos. The painful blood curdling screams are not mistakable. You can't argue that death is ok as long as no torture is involved.

everyone has to eat, and every culture has the meats that the dignify as "ok" for eating and whats not ok. (a western example would be our eating of cows as normal, while a hindu would think we are crazy for doing so, much like a lot of us our think they are crazy for eating turtles)
But no living creature..period..deserves to be tortured like this turtle has been. whether that be chicken, cow or turtle, and thats the problem.

further more unlike cows and chickens these sea turtles are endangered. Now I can't blame these people for not respecting the protection laws of endangered species, they probably don't even know about it, or if they do, don't understand why.
So I don't get mad at them for that. However that doesn't change the fact that they are killing an endangered animal, which is what is making alot of the posters here mad.

So you can't compare the eating of cows and chicken to this, as there are two rather large variables. One is that this turtle was tortured before it died, something we don't do. and two, this animal is endangered while cows and chickens are not.
Thus it is upsetting, and people do have a right to feel that way, saying its justifiable because we eat chickens and cows is a poor argument.
point being, while I don't blame these people for what they've done, it is something that should be stopped.

Just because an animal is not tourtured, it doesn't mean it didn't die a miserable and painful death, no matter what the slaughterhouse tells you. Just watch the videos. The painful blood curdling screams are not mistakable. You can't argue that death is ok as long as no torture is involved.

and as for the cows and chickens that are in pain when they die, (such as alot of the videos we see here on youtube) that is against regulations. At the very least we are trying to make the animals death that we eat painless. something that can not be said for this turtle.

In short, you can't get past the two large variables I mentioned before. We create regulations in order to reduce the suffering of the animals we eat....and we don't eat endangered species of animals a rather large argument you failed to respond to.
Again, every culture has different meats they eat, that is fine. But torturing the animals before they die is inexcusable, as is eating endangered species, which is why people on this board are getting mad.

you miss the point. my point is, you can't justify the painful slaughter of this turtle by saying "well we eat chickens and cows, thats just as bad". Which is what the guy I responded to said. My point is, (while not ideal, granted) we do have regulations for the cows and chickens we eat, and how they are killed. If we were to kill a cow or a chicken in the same way this turtle was just killed, I and everyone on this board would be just as upset as they are over this turtle.

In short. Its some people here are claiming alot of us are upset about the death of this turtle because of the fact that it is a turtle. Aside from the fact that the animal is endangered, I am saying thats not true, and you can't claim that because we eat cows and chickens that we are just as bad. I say, any animal that is killed that way, is wrong, and thats why the majority of us are upset. The fact that it is endangered however does raise the upset level a bit as well however, as I mentioned.

actually haven't missed the point & agree with you. in the US, there is only 1 fed law that governs slaughter of animals for food. that's it becuz i researched it. outside of that there are no other laws that protect animal welfare raised for food. no animal should die the way this turtle did, but it is the culture there - they have no regard for animal life unless you pay them to do so. & sadly enough there are many slaughterhouse abuses that thumb their nose at the law.
