Magnificently preserved, the city has beautiful views over the lush valley below. Of course, it was the center of the Albigensien Heresy--Catholics who tried tried but failed to return the Church to the true faith. French rulers' armies besieged it for decades,unsuccessfully. They also launched the Crusades, from here, with a similar religious aim: to defeat infidels in the Holy Land, This spectacular city has walls to walk and great restaurants, too.
