  • If you are interested in testing your skills, the First European Full Contact Chinese Swordplay Tournament will be held May 28, '11 in Oldambt, Netherlands under the Traditional Chinese Sword League rules. They have been putting on National Tournaments in the US for 3 years. The event is being organized by the Dutch Jianfa Foundation, jianfa - nl.

  • I have to say this is interesting to see as I've always wanted to see Wudang jianshu in action. Though one thing I wouldn't recommend is jumping like that unless you've disrupted your opponent's stance or got them off balance in some way

  • Hey should train in other styles. It looks like they're actually predicting and reading each other in their minds instead of actually reading each other

  • Wow thats shiter than kendo

  • i rather watch this the olympic fenching

  • @xihangyang

olympic fencing has really so many rules and is consequently

    quite limited

  • @EKOkoeln also it to fast i can not see who won. they need elektriccitty for that.

also they keep on jumping and after 2 minute they got tired.

  • @xihangyang

Olympic fencing has really so many rules and

    is consequently very limited

  • The sword is very subtle and would have been razor sharp so all of these subtle strokes would have devastating consequences for the opponent. Good video.

  • wait a sec ...the particular swords are one handers.... this makes their combos really slow

  • Haha, me and my friend decided we are going to turn a story we'd been talking about into video, so we've been studying up on sword techiniques, (Don't worry we are not idiots, we are using nerf swords, we don't want to die, since we don't know what we are doing) it is nice to see some actually helpful videos around here, thanks :D

  • katanas are more deadly then a tishe sword but a wepen is a wepen i guss

  • Have to agree with the comments below concerning the use of such light weight weapons, I mean these "swords" are more like toys. Don't they even sell Nerf Swords in the toy stores? I appreciate the effort these students are making, but please consider moving up to real weight , solid weapons as our friends in European Historical Swordsmanship have, or like the players in the Traditional Chinese Sword League.

  • SooMaTai&Aserox you are so unbelievabaly right :)

Thats what i say all the time. Learn it slow, practice it fast.

  • and yes there using light weight swords just saying in actual sword duels(that'll never happen in the modern day) this is how fast at the most a real weighted sword could go. Imagine european broad swords, ever watch movies with knights n broads swords or samurais? there swords are so heavy its even slower then this video, they can only do one big hay maker cut at a time, not that fast stuff in sport kendo with bamboo lol

  • I hate when people do training videos, or show sword combat, but simply show what would happen should your opponent suddenly freeze, or forget their about to die. Sure, you can quickly counter their very stupid thrust, but MAYBE, just you know, there is a MINOR possibility that they might want to defend themselves from your counter attack, you know, the whole stay alive thing. . .

  • That is some of the slowest sparring I have ever seen. Sparring at that speed is fine, but when faced with an opponent who move at actual combat speed, you will fail, and your opponent will win. The only way to train sword is to practice at full speed.

  • Not always. There is an emphasis on deliberate movement and tip control. When you move too quickly it becomes random flailing. The more accuracy and control you have the less wasted movement. This means you may physically move slower but the technique is more efficient. Not that full speed doesn't have a place. There is slow to build muscle memory, Medium to build technique, and Fast to build reflex. You need all three.

  • That's nice... but I think that most of the blows wouldn't cause serious wounds, only light ones. Maybe you should practice with larger movements ;)

(This is only what I think, so please don't think I'm criticizing you)

  • Thanks for your comment.

Did you see Chow Yun Fat ´s swordfighting in "Tiger and Dragon"? His Wudang movements are also quite small.

European medieval swordfighters and also ancient japanese swordfighters had to deal with opponents with heavy armours, chinese swordfighters did not.

    The systems differ very much.

  • in chinas past there where also heavy amors but they change it quicly cause of new weapons like arrow rockets in past china has the most dangerous weapons so they change to light amors for quick moving like europeans does around the year 1600 after they had pistols

  • @EKOkoeln These swords arent used for fighting in wars..... it's kinda personal use. Talking about heavy armours, chinese has tons of weapons against them, even sword in war is much more different from this one.

  • those blows are aimed at the wrist area of the arm....the area were suicidal people cut themselves to cause sever bleeding and also where the nerves on the arms that control your finger and grip movement are....its obvious you dont understand the human body and cutting the wrist area doesnt require big movements to do damage there even regular people know that. lets see you hold on to your weapon after being cut in the wrist by a sharp bladed sword. lol

  • @anhkhoinguyen lol dont grip it, strap it on :D

  • finally a decent video! been looking forever for wudang jian sparring! oh what style of wudang is this? i loved the moves and also the computer effect when one scores a hit point! very very cool, and very demonstrative!

  • Thanks a lot!!!

many techniques are from the set

"16 principles" (shi liu tse jian)

check out our other wudang videos...

  • Where do you get your' training swords?

That looks so fun-I would play like that all day!

  • You´re so right; it´s lots of fun!!!!

We construct the weapons on some lazy days.

  • Ok...how do you construct them?

By the way, you guys would have a lot of fun playing against the Spaniard sword and dagger, Escrima too.

  • hard to translate...

isolation of heating pipes, cable channels inside...

we train many other weapon combinations: longstaff fight, sabre fight, double sabre, double stick...

check our video: "Weapons of Kung Fu"
