Parkinson's is scum just a posh middle class asshole .here in yorkshish we hate him he makes out he is Yorkshire he as not lived here for over 50 years . he lives with all the rest of the twats in London and he as a son called tristram what Yorkshire man would call his son that
Deniro does not owe anyone anything. He can sit there and say nothing. We do not own him. Acting is his profession. He is an actor and the rest of the time he does what he wants, including not answering questions. This man is lucky he is even there.
Parkinson ,during its original run of 1971-1982 was the greatest TV chatshow ever. With an interviewer who wasn't a comedian or light entertainment star but a journalist who had the uncanny knack of asking the right questions to his guest and "listening" to what they had to say instead of practically ever other chat show host who seem intent on promoting their own ego at the expense of the guests.
@vashna3799 I agree, in the original run between 71 and 82 he was the best. Much later he became very celebrity friendly... not really asking them any interesting or probing questions. Guests like the Beckhams who he fawned over. I always wondered why he changed so much. The interview he did with Woody Allen was perhaps the last time he put his guest on the spot and asked questions the public would have asked given the chance. But he had 11 great years it has to be said.
It's well known around Hollywood circles that Robert Deniro is the actor who can't read people's faces... he basically can't tell when someone is making a little joke or being slightly ironic with him. You can see this clearly when Parky asks him in regards to his role in the 'King of Comedy', "You've not been doing any research whilst we've been sitting here have you?" It's quite obvious Deniro doesn't get the little joke. For someone of his great acting ability... he is a true enigma.
@Jitpring For me Raging Bull is De Niro's greatest performance but TKOC is a close second. I'm always telling people about it and most have never even heard of it. I find it vexing that such a gem remains largely unnoticed but then I suppose such things are what separate people with taste such as you and I from the unwashed masses lol.
@matrags I won't assault you for thinking this is only his second-best performance. But you're wrong. ;-) By the way, isn't it sad how far downhill he's fallen? Now he's basically a self-parody.
@Jitpring; @matrags you both have never been more wrong in all your tiny, ignorant lives. his GREATEST performance is The Deer Hunter, hands down, his BEST performance is The King of Comedy. there i said it
But he is abstract, oblivious, detached when interviewed. He should be more prepared & articulate when presenting himself, since many respect his work & will expect him to express his craft.
He should learn from his Pal "Al" who is not only a brilliant artist but a great human being.
@gsg9ff he obviously doesn't like interviews. So why should he be something he's not. Hes being honest. I think he is a very humble and genuine person. Hes my favorite actor, he don't need to express shit to me or anyone for that matter. We see his genius on screen.
@gsg9ff My bubble has not been burst, I see it for what it is. Its just your perception, nothing else. Not everyone is going to agree with you. Anyway, how would you know if hes not being himself, have you spent time with him or something ? Or is it that you just like to read what others write about him? Or is it because ur not happy with the responses he gives. Oh get over urself, u sound like a spoilt child. Deniro please keep schtum towards these nosey busy bodies. Its good to b an enigma.
@katoness Katoness, your as much a phony as the characters Deniro plays on the screen. The only reason you PERSONALLY take offense to what I have written is because you are invested/identified with Deniro and my unfavorable but reasonable comments are a threat to your identity or your false sense of self.
Seriously, if you have some sense of consciousness, READ your choice of words hence your mind and hopefully you will get a glimpse into the anger/dysfunction of what you are. Don't jerkmeoff.
@gsg9ff I ain't a phony, I'm giving my honest opinion. Ur the fake with ur bullshit. I like ur inaccurate psychobabble of me. I don't take offense to ur words, u just don't make any sense. U think ur intelligent but ur far from it. U have evaded most of the questions I asked. 'Sense of consciousness', I probably know more about it than u do. Why are there so many wankers on the interne like u? Oh I wish someone would interview u, u sound so knowledgeable! Get me the sick bucket, I wanna puke!!
I think he's just a very private person who doesnt want to disclose much of what's happening inside of him- which I think really gets revealed through his characters. He was something of a troublemaker during his teenage years, joining street gangs in Little Italy, maybe some of those antisocial tendencies can get a sublimized expression through many of his characters- violent, complex, cold- blooded, frustrated, etc.
I read a biography on De Niro year ago and there was a quote from a close friend of his that said something like "when Bob's not inhabiting a character he is empty". Thats why this (and several interviews I have on vhs) are hard work.
De Niro is known for being a very difficult subject. Not because he's an asshole but its seems hard to drag four words outta him when theyre not written in a screenplay for him.
Intersting to read that. My wife's friend was a waiter in NYC for a lot of years and served Mr. De Niro, alone and with his wife, many times and he would say that when Mr. De Niro was with his wife he was very vibrant and outgoing but that when he came in alone (French onion soup and a glass of red wine, if anyone is interested) he seemed to be very withdrawn and quiet.
I wonder if his wife has the same effect on him as a character does?
@oconstanti Oh,ok. Yeah,he looked pretty fit in Cape Fear though. Not bad givin his age. You gotta keep in mind that he was 35 yrs. old in Raging Bull. At that age it only gets harder to stay fit. Anyway, he's one of the greats. I miss his old stuff. Peace.
Damn... he's one of the best movie actors I've ever seen. I really really LOVE most of his movies that I've seen... oh but hells bells.. he's one of the most boring interviewees... he always seems to want to be somewhere else.
@Darkez982 yeah, he's like the kid form Primal fear, he puts on this shy act meanwhile his real personality are the violent, sadistic characters he play in raging bull and cape fear. dumbass.

@katoness Hate to burst your bubble, but he's not being honest or genuine.
When he is interviewing, he is anything other than himself, it is so apparent.
I am sure he can be the quiet, reserved self & still deliver with articulate responses that would be coherent & get the point across.
