  • I love Canada. Such an expansive, beautiful country. I do feel proud to live here.

Wonderful video, Paul. Keep making videos I enjoy them thoroughly!

  • For the Reason's Harvest T-Shirt, you could set up a cafepress store to sell shirts and other stuff with the design.

  • A video on how to argue for capitalism, now that's a good idea! I certainly could use some extra ammunition.

  • I don't mean to detract from the intention of the video but the tenacity of my occupational boredom has me repeating (cranially) a part of your monologue which i had originally considered a differently. I'm a little rusty on 'shrugged' but i was always of the opinion that Hank's rescue from the siege was more of a selfish indulgment than a heroic feat.

  • moo moo, i found an explanation

    IDOAR #6 - Q&A: Example of Altruism

  • "Thank you." said Galt.

"I will repeat what you said to me in our first meeting", replied Hank. "If you know that I acted in my own self-interest, you know that the thanks isn't necessary."

"And I will repeat your response to me," said Galt. "That, is why I thank you."

  • Yea, i was totally tied up on my own assumption/interpretation of the language rather than the meaning. i.e. i checked one of my premises and one was wrong.

  • Paul, if there was a way you could make it possible to subscribe to the group's videos, or for emails to be sent out whenever there's a new video added, it would be really helpful. Do you think this could be done?

  • I'll have a look into it, but it seems that YouTube has not given groups much of a priority.

It seems "Groups" were initially conceived of as being like television channels or newspapers. The owner of the Group is like an editor who decides what to include or exclude in order to please/reach his target audience. I suspect that they have had difficulty finding a revenue-generation model for groups and that promoting them might reduce subscriptions and, thereby, ad revenues. (???)

  • Thanks, I didn't even know about the objectivist group. And Beethovens7th - I think music should certainly be included.

  • Me too, but I understand Paul's point and ultimately it's up to him.

  • (! Sure !)

P.I. Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff would be à propos and pertinent.

...and "Tiddly Wink Music" if you can find any.

  • A while back, I googled and found a few of the very same recordings Ayn Rand held most dear (amongst her tiddly winkers). They're probably still available. I'll have a look.

  • Can't wait for Reason's Harvest!

  • Looks like a really long commute.

  • It's about 40 minutes each way, but it usually feels too short, actually. I often use the time to listen to an audiobook.

  • WOW! That is an intense beard.

  • Paul, are you interested in any kind of video for the Objectivist group even if it's not explicitly about philosophy? One of my favorite things about YT is the endless classical music videos. I think some Oists might be interested in some of these videos of romanticist music.

  • I've put in the occasional bit of art (two or three videos of some architecture, paintings), but I wouldn't want to make it difficult to find the spoken word. I think it's important for people new to Objectivism to hear some of the ideas made explicit.

  • Ah good point, fair enough. I sent a couple of my videos to be added, as well of a video of a Mike Mentzer seminar on exercise. Mentzer was on Objectivist, and actually he discusses philosophy a great deal in this seminar.

  • Heh, who is that singing in the beginning? Sounds like Steeleye Span.

  • Stan Rodgers - Northwest Passage.

Folk singer from Hamilton, Ontario. My home town.

  • Paul,

    Im glad that you exist.

    Sebastian Di Mauro

  • Also, my brother and I both love the idea of Reason's Harvest. Both of us are college students on a fixed income so our prospects for celebrating it well are not looking good at the moment. I do hope that it gets popular though.

  • I've been thinking about that. One consideration: not all values are material...

  • I usually visit the Objectivists group everyday because it's useful to find miscellaneous videos from users that I don't particularly want to subscribe to. I wish there was a bit more discussion in there, but the message board system in there sucks so I don't blame people for not using it.

  • Im too busy with my festivus traditions for a silly new holiday.

  • Some people favour feats of productivity to "feats of strength". To each his own, I suppose. Say hi to Costanza for me.

  • Interesting video. It even thought me a new word: moraine.

While I was aware of it as part of a regional name from my childhood, seeing my grandparents who lived in Wisconsins Kettle Moraine, I had never previously learned that it was a geological term. Thanks.

  • You're quite welcome jw. Incidentally, you're one of a number of YT Objectivists that came to mind after the drive. I'll try to make a point of adding you (and some others) to the list of YTOs next time.

    Cheers,

    P.
