  • Continuing....

The original LPs from the 70's were 'Le Cheile' and 'Le Cheile Aris' - recompiled recently onto one CD (not all tracks included).

The new line up are on more recent CD 'Out of the West'.

  • The piano player is probably John Roe, although versatile Kevin Boyle also of Le Cheile (who often plays banjo and guitar) is also a keyboard player. Fiddle player is Donegal's irrepressable Danny Meehan, long time resident in London.

The worthy replacements at the recent London concert were Andy Martin (box) and Paul Gallagher (flute). The gang also performed at the Cavan Fleadh 2011.

  • PRICELESS we so love Paddy Fahey the Galway fiddler

but Raymond Rolands and PJ are as priceless as the stars above

  • Wonderful music and wonderful pictures. Thanks a million for posting.

  • Fuck off all you negative commentors . Danny Mehan is magical on the fiddle here

  • cool vid

  • I know that it is not the same Paddy Fahey but he might recognize some of the people.

  • The best. I can't wait show this to my father. He has an old picture of Paddy Fahey and Paddy Carthy on his site check it out.

  • The banjo player shown in the photo montage is Liam Farrell. To the right of Liam is the late Raymond Roland on accordion (and both are original Le Cheile members). Don't know the fiddle player, but I believe the piano player is the late Kevin Taylor...

  • London man, i know so also, raymondo was class, love 2 know who u are, my mammy comes from bohola!!!

  • @bohola

I think the fiddle player is Vincent Griffin

  • This brings back memories of an uncle who motivated me to play music , he enjoyed his life through music and his family RIP PJ we all miss you your niece Deirdre x x

  • It's a long long way from Clare to here...

  • Le Cheile are in concert at the 'Return to Camden' festival on 26th October.

  • Thanks very much for the video eames59. I'm a big fan of the 'London Scene' of Irish Traditional music and also a fan of Liam Farrell's banjo playing. I have heard a Le Cheile LP and the music was superb but don't have a copy on me unfortunately. It is on my 'to get' list.

  • This track features the fiddle player. I remember seeing Danny Meehan a few years ago in The Irish Centre in Camden in a Donegal fiddle concert. Tommy Peoples was on the bill, as was James Byrne who was a revelation. I believe Le Cheile recently did a concert with replacements for the two deceased members, Raymond Roland and PJ Crotty. I also hear there is an album available, though I have yet to see it on sale. I am surprised this video has not been tipped in The Session website yet.

  • Yes, it's very hard to get hold of the CD, I got one from Alan O' Leary at his Copperplate website. I think it is a complilation of Lord Mayo and Aris. My copy had a few clicks at the start, but it's a great album. I'd love to have heard James Byrne.

  • @eames59 Thanks for the tip. Have been trying to get hold of Le cheile for ages and I am delighted that I have just ordered it from the copperplate website. Thanks again, cannot wait to hear more from such a talented, influential band.

  • Great stuff! Fascinating photographs as well.

Liam Farrell is on the fantastic CD 'They sailed away from Dublin Bay' with Joe Whelan Reg Hall James Carty.

  • Thanks, that's an album I must get. 'Happy to Meet' with Reg Hall and PJ Crotty is very good as well, and of course Paddy in the Smoke.
