  • funny exotic dance performed in Singapore in 1940

  • Well, you are correct that it's a funny, exotic dance performed in 1940. However, it definitely wasn't performed in Singapore. This film was shot at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

  • @pwgr2000 There's a "native dance" performed elsewhere in the movie, and if you listen closely the "South Sea Islanders" are all singing in Esperanto.

  • Say, did these actors use Pepsodent??

  • I'm afraid I'm not with you this one. Your comment suggests there is a lot of toothy grinning in this clip. Dorothy Lamour smiles a couple of times; Anthony Quinn scowls during the whole thing, except for a weak smile at the end; Bing is pretty straight faced throughout; and Bob gives a few provocative pouts and a bit of flirtatious beaming. Nothing really over the top on the dental Richter scale though.

    Please help us out.

  • I was just being silly because Bob was on the Pepsodent show. I got it on CD to listen to as I drive and the Pepsodent commercials are fun.

  • he is referring to Bob Hope's radio sponsor, Pepsodent toothpaste

  • Many thanks for enlightening me about this. I grew up here in Australia and was never aware that Bob Hope had appeared in Pepsodent commercials in the US.

  • You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent!

  • This must have been one of Anthony Quinn's earlier roles.

  • Anthony Quinn had made about 20 films by the time he appeared in ¨Road to Singapore¨ in 1940. His first film was ¨The Milky Way¨ in 1936.
