Q: how did you get Fever to go from the 'down' behavior to the 'aren't you cute' behavior? Jessie just can't seem to get this combo (lifting her butt).
Thanks! First I made sure she knew a lot of other cues for "assuming a position," instead of one motion. Like, sit means assume the sit from the down or from the stand, not just put your rear on the ground. Then I worked stimulus control, stimulus control, discrimination, a LOT. Then I just back-chained the down and are-you-cute. Extremely high value rewards for are-you-cute and then I'd ask for a down and then are-you-cute. I clicked any effort to get into are-you-cute for the first few reps.
I also made sure she could go from easier behaviors to are-you-cute, like spin left, spin right, sit, stand, before attempting the hard one. I also clicked her for getting up out of the down and then assuming the are you cute at first-- she figured out it was more efficient to lift her butt and put her head on her paws than to get up and start from scratch.

I am trying to train maverick the way you have been training your dogs. srsly your clicker training is sooooo beast. Become a professional dog trainer so I have a reason to come visit you other then to steal your dogs? My mom says thats not a good enough reason lol.

After exams I am going to retrain it. It was much cuter before I put it on cue and destroyed the duration!
