Both versions have great qualities and sound fantastic in different ways. Wish people wouldn't get so defensive of legitimately good covers. This is a beautiful version of the GnR classic. Far better, imho, than Sheryl Crow's. I was 17 when I first heard Appetite in '88. At first I didn't get it, but after a few listens(sp?), I was hooked. This song, as performed by GnR, contains one of the most recognizable intros in rock music. I can name that tune in... Add to that a seriously sleazy guitar solo from some hairy guy in a top hat, and you have a piece of rock history.
