real story - noel and the band just had this song as an instrumental, and one day when working with 'the real people' (a band who noel drew heavy influence off who also worked with oasis alot in the early days) chris griffiths and liam were listening and liam came up with the first few lines with chris providing the next few and the high pitched overdub. only reason it is claimed as noels is because on the record contracts his stated all songwriting credits.

The lyrics have nothing to do with the song title as this track was intended to be a instrumental (Noel decided to throw in some lyrics right at the end and thank God he did). Noel Gallagher could not think of a name that suited this song, so he called it Columbia because Oasis were staying in the Columbia hotel at the time (which they were subsequently banned from). A simple title that means nothing and some of the best lyrics ever written (that were never meant to be), Columbia is PERFECTION.

columbia is a club that alot of musicians hang out at in England. when oasis was first making it, im sure they hung out there alot, which is probably where the "there we were, now here we are. this is confusion, nothings the same to me" line came from.

though im sure alot of cocaine was envolved as well, which just adds to the clever song title
