Where do you guys typically keep the tone knob for the bridge pickup? I recently bought an 2005 R9, and it's noticeably brighter than my 2007 R8. As a result, the neck pickup has great clarity, but the bridge can be shrill, so I end up turning the stock Gibson CTS tone pot down to like 2.5 (these stock CTS are nothing special; I get a better taper out of the regular Gibson USA pots on my SG '61 Reissue). And even though the bridge is brighter, it seems to get a little more bite than the R8.
@tehorix789 First of all, you need to change to 50's style wiring if you haven't already and get yourself some real Sprague Black Beauties or Bumblebees or any good PIO cap. Then, yeah, I definitely roll my tone back in just about every situation except in a full band where I need the cut.
i could totally hang with you guys...no ego's just some regular dudes enjoying some guitars and some blues. hell yeah keep keep it up Dan and Phil. if im ever in St.louis i think it is i will say hi...lol im about to make some youtube clips soon myself just for fun. i have a 2008 R0 or G0 rather that some guy aged with checking etc. found it on ebay for 2g and put some throbaks in it after hearing you guys and man that was the best money i ever spent. these historics are great with better pickup
hey skydog46, congrats on the VIP at the MLP community, but i was just wondering, is that a R8 chambered since your bud mentioned something about the flames...
if it is a later JMP, it should have cascading gain stage and have more gain like the JCM 800. What are you playing it through the low input? The high input on those amps scream
The 800's had different transformers and lower plate voltages, The circuit was the same at first, but it changed in '83, so the only good 800's were the first ones.
Is the 2204 a jcm800 or a 70s type model?

3:10 TONE!!!! Oh my that sounds killer
bwsauce 2 years ago
Sounds very compressed. The notes really sag a lot when you hit them.
Is that from fret buzz, are you using a compressor, or is it natural sag from the amp?
Maybe the limiter in the video camera?
elephantcup 2 years ago
It's how the amp is SUPPOSED to sound!!!

No, I don't have any chambered guitars. That's Phil's guitar. His is an 02 R8. I have an 02 R8 and an 07 R9. Thanks for listening!!

Kaelan66 3 years ago
No, it isn't.
skydog46 3 years ago
what is it then?
Kaelan66 3 years ago
its a marshall jmp 2204 50 watt master volume head...
glitchflip 3 years ago
It has less gain than a JCM800. This is one of the last years before the JCM800 which was a new circuit.

madmmx18976 3 years ago
This is more like the older JMP's and has less gain and vertical inputs. Also has EL34 tubes, not 6550's.
